Calum and Bee went on a wild camp adventure in the Cairngorms National Park that soon turned a bit spooky...
The spirit of the forest soon turned up and lent some knowledge of what to do and what not to do when camping.

I honestly expected a pissed-off Highlander shouting : " AY MATE THE FOHK YE THINK YE'R DA'AN NO FOHKIN FIRE HERE YE BASTARD". But you went for something more, educational, and I'm happy with that.

This is the story of Tom: the nuckelavee. They say he hunts down campers, tormenting them until they do it just right; and if they don't, they're never seen again... Until they learn proper Bushcraft survival skills. Then they're free to go. :)

I love this, Tom!! What a creative way to get the message across to save a small part of our beautiful Scotland...thank you for the reminder. Stay safe, lad. Be well. Much love from your favorite adopted auntie in Maine, USA 🙏🙏❤️❤️

- I've haunted like five guys here last night, and they've left stodgy landmines for you to step on... HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA brilliant! Thank you for this video... and EXCELLENT message delivered in a very fun way. I love nature and being out in nature and I hope we can take care of it so that my daughters and their descendents and others can continue to enjoy it for generations to come. Nice to see my favourite fellow scots outdoor youtubers collaborating. Touche'

You say Scotland's Forrest are dry. Where I live Colorado US has 4 current Forrest Fires 1 being the largest in State history. 175,000 acres across the state and continue to burn. 1 was from Lightning, the others are from careless campers (I believe). Great Message. Slàinte mhath!
@ScarlettKitsune
@ScarlettKitsune 4 года назад
Not dry, but the climate has been much drier in recent years. Bush fires were not a frequent occurance before, but we're seeing them yearly of late. Can't say they have anything on the US or Australia, but it is still concerning.
@TheMacPherson
@TheMacPherson 4 года назад
Just came from the black hills of sd, the smoke was thick! I’d be interested to know if wildfire is necessary for Scottish evergreen woods to regenerate en masse? I know fire helps several different US plant communities
@ScarlettKitsune
@ScarlettKitsune 4 года назад
@@TheMacPherson Scotland typically gets lowland fires in late spring when the heather is dry, but forest fires have been rare. Fires have quadrupled in frequency over the space of 2 years and last way longer damaging large areas. Typically we're a very humid country, and fires aren't able to burn as long as in the US. Plant life typically becomes peat in most areas not on the hills, so our climate isn't supposed to be dry for long periods. Last year the summer had a period of 6 weeks with no rain. That might not sound like a lot to you, but in my living memory rain has never stayed away more than 2 weeks. I had never seen the earth crack and crumble from lack of moisture.
@TheMacPherson
@TheMacPherson 4 года назад
@Kitsune 6 weeks without rain is crazy! That would be devastating here in the western Great Lakes region.
@ScarlettKitsune
@ScarlettKitsune 4 года назад
@@TheMacPherson Absolutely, for any woodland long dry periods can be highly destructive. It was mad. Usually we can't go two days without a rain shower. I'd never seen the plant life so parched. Our ecosystem is just not designed for it.

Love that informative 'tongue in cheek' humour that one can only get in Scotland. The rest of us Brits have it too but nothing close to Scots! I'm sure that the reason Scotland has only 1% of it's trees left is because of the English ship building. In fair disclosure I am English but I respect your work! Enjoying all you videos. Really creative content.

Thanks for making this, it was fun creative, and educational. And seeing it today, I especially appreciated the bit about being responsible about where, when, and how you build a fire. I live in Seattle, and have been trapped indoors from the smoke for more that a week, its depressing watching the news every day and seeing more forests burn up and down the west coast of North America.

The banana thing blew my mind, in primary we were told so much environmental stuff and how fruit and that are biodegradable, a few years later I dropped a banana skin and my mum freaks out.
@SonsOfLorgar
@SonsOfLorgar 4 года назад
Not only are biodegradeablility dependant on what the bugs in the area eats, exotic fruit skins are usually coated or even soaked in pesticides and fungicides so that they will last harvest, shipping, store wait etc.

Especially pertinent - blasting music! Not everybody around you wants to hear your music over powering the sweet sounds / silence of nature. Music is fine just keep it at a level that cant be heard outside your camp. Also the "bio-degradable" argument and dont even get me started on the "poo" habits of some people while in the bush! Great video.
