It is patches of miracles surrounded by hellscape of destruction. A truly terrible and at the same time amazing experience. No electricity for 7 full days and no water for over 6. Electricity commitment just moved from tomorrow out until maybe Sunday. Water might be weeks. But the sound of helicopters constantly bringing us supplies is warm comfort. Knowing the outpouring of resources and support are here for us offer such a silver lining, an embrase after tragic loss. Neighbors helping neighbors, sharing resources and information as it comes in. Barter for services and engagement the likes many seldom experience in our modern society. Venturing out and realizing how much worse some of our neighbors were hit is how devastated my home, my streets, my friends' homes, and possibly lives for some who we still cannot reach and we're last seen on buildings that were swept away entirely. I, and my family are safe and grateful. Finding comfort when and where we can. We have brought in our son's friend. His home washed away with him inside. It floated from the foundation and snapped in half. He escaped on his dad's back with water up to his neck. But he has spent the last week hanging out with his buddy, while we do our best to provide comforts and entertainment however we can.
