Amazing conversation and a ton to really ponder in the language we tolerate and use as well as how we can live as a community with differing opinions and points of view! Bravo Erwin and beloved son

Thank you for talking about these issues! So many people are afraid to talk about it because of whatever backlash they may face, and I understand that, but we have a freedom of speech for a reason. It allows us to see different perspectives and engage in conversations that actually matter! Appreciate you both sm and loved hearing what you had to say! 🤌

Hello Erwin and Aaron. From a woman in Cape Town, South Africa. Most women don't support other women. So sad but true. You have to be a truly secure in who's you are and who you are to support other women.

Thank you, thank you , thank you! The comment at 15:45 is EXACTLY what blows my mind with Trump. I don't like Trump, but I could see people choosing him given the other options. What upsets me more is the worshipful support of him. Such fervor for him is what I find most concerning. This episode keeps getting better and better as it goes on. Excelent!

Too many on both sides use democracy. We have a constitutionally limited Republic. Vastly different from a democracy. We have gone away, so far from the constitution, we need to get back following it.

Photocopying the check in the district of New York… transporting the check, in the city of New York, paying the phone bill after having made a call, talking about the payment, in the city of New York. Driving the check in a briefcase in a cab on city streets of New York, etc..🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I don’t think our society could handle it. I think we would eventually grow from it because resilience is innately human. We would eventually get through it but at first.. no, we would all need counseling. Counselors would need counseling. 41:43

Thx for openly sharing your opinions on Trump, democracy, and gay folx. TBH, as a person of faith it was terribly difficult to hear your commentary on our gay friends (and my gay daughter). Jesus came to give life to the fullest, and Dr. Miguel De La Torre writes that "If a biblical interpretation prevents life from being lived abundantly by a segment of the population or, worse, if it brings death, then it is anti-gospel." It is widely recognized that our gay friends and neighbors have been dealt a death blow by most of the church. Suicide rates among our gay neighbors are up to 8x higher than our straight neighbors; they are also targeted, bullied, harassed, assaulted and killed by folks who do not believe they are human. My daughter wakes up in a world every day where most religious people do not believe she will be in heaven because she is gay, even though she is 100% devoted to Jesus. Extensive studies reveal that the more ingrained one is in the church, the more anti-gay they become. As we see the radical hospitality and love of Jesus, this ought to be the other way around!!! The kind of book in the library you were speaking against is the very kind of book that has been life-saving for my daughter. If your friend doesn't want to read it, there are plenty of other books to choose from. In one part of the podcast, you spoke about not controlling communication, but in this section of the podcast you were lamenting open communication of values that are different from yours. I would truly appreciate a deeper conversation on your understanding of the Gospel and how it relates to and affects our gay neighbors. I have so much respect for you, Erwin, so it was difficult to hear this commentary. It was brief, though, so I would appreciate more thoughts on it. Also, if you haven't read READING THE BIBLE FROM THE MARGINS by De La Torre I would recommend it! That, and/or READING THE BIBLE WITH THE DAMNED by Bob Ekblad. Ekblad is more conservative than De La Torre but they share a similar foundational viewpoint: The Bible is best understood through the lens of our poor and marginalized neighbors. Today's conversation felt like it was coming from a very privileged position. I know that hasn't always been the lens through which you saw things, as you are an immigrant from a very poor, historically dangerous country. You have been targeted due to your ethnicity, as have I. The language you used about power was spot on, in my opinion, yet it was heavily bent toward seeing the corruption of our "blue" friends while not calling out the corruption of our "red" friends. It was so sad to hear Aaron rip "universal" healthcare (actually, affordable healthcare. I wish we had universal healthcare, as the U.S. is one of the only developed countries in the world without it) without providing any data or reasoning behind it. To call it a disaster as your opinion is your call, but to do so with no evidence seems dangerous. I thank God everyday for the affordable healthcare act, as it has saved me and my family many times over the past several years. Very rarely will you hear poor people diss the ACA; it has actually been a lifesaver for so many. The US has the highest cost for healthcare in the world. The ACA may not be perfect, but it's 100x better than what we had before it. I deeply appreciate this podcast and Erwin's messages. My hope is that there will be a "mind shift" in the way politics and theology are being translated and understood. Look at any political map of how black women vote, for instance. Why is it the majority of black women understand politics so differently than the way you and Aaron were describing it? What does that mean? Is that worth looking into? Look at how poor people of color vote and ask why that is. I am not advocating for a perfect political opinion as there isn't one, but perhaps more informed one that includes the viewpoint of people living historically on the margins. Thanks again for expressing your opinions and for allowing me to respond. With great love, Lydia.

@@aaroncmcmanus Absolutely and I appreciate those opinions. My concern is that some of those opinions come across as conspiratorial and utilitarian. I would have expected Pastor McManus' to have some theological or even Biblical perspectives on the morality of the situation and not just how things look to the public
