I think she proved herself to be a more versatile player than many people thought in that game (including me, tbh). She showed that even when her shot is off she can still be a major asset to the team.
@a2knyc
@a2knyc Месяц назад
She had a string of weak shooting games in the NCAA tourney early on, stretching into the Big 10, esp from 3 point range. She pivoted by driving to the basket, and looking for more assist opportunities. Even though all the talk is about her 3s, her passing has always been strong, and will get even better as the team gels. She had 100+ games with some of her iowa teammates over years. She's not even a month with Indiana.

Great analysis Hunter. I agree on the passing ability. It makes it where defense has to be wary of all 4 offensive players because they could get a great pass at any time in position to score.

I've said this before on YT, but I'll say it again: when Caitlin passes the ball it's sometimes true Harry Potter shit: she disapparates the ball in her own hands and apparates it in the teammate's hands. It's so fast, often at an unexpected point in the play, to a unsuspected receiver, it's like magic. Sometimes, I've run a play at quarter-speed and I still only just get a glimpse of the ball. Monica Czinano, and then Hannah Stuelke and Syd Affolter, and Kate Martin, they were all used to the ball suddenly appearing exactly where they needed it to be out of a mini-wormhole but the Indiana girls are still getting used to it!

It must be kind of a culture shock to go from an offense where, if she wasn't scoring, their getting blown out, to one where they kinda don't need her to score. I attribute her poor fg% in the preseason to her facing actual pro defenders and still getting used to pro defense. That's also most likely the reason why she turns the ball over so much. Imo those are things that as she gets more settled into the league, they will fix themselves. What she's already elite at, is drawing in those defenders and so garnering much attention. Her gravity is, no lie, already the most in the league second to maybe only Aja. And because she's such an elite passer, she hits her teammates perfectly. Once she gets used to the pro defenders, and her teammates get used to such good passes (lol) I honestly think she could lead the league in assists. The transition from elite scorer to elite playmaker is one im excited to see for CC.

Great video as always, dude. So glad I found this channel. My main concern with Clark and Indiana is that she's going to end up in the same situation Sabrina Ionescu was in before the Liberty picked up Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. IIRC, the opposing team would pick Sabrina up full court, blitz her on every screen, and trap her as soon as she passed half court on almost every possession, which forced her into a lot of turnovers and kept her out of rhythm. Caitlin made some great passes in the Atlanta game and honestly could've had more assists if her teammates didn't blow some easy chances. But Dangerfield and Aerial Powers were defending Clark like it was a playoff elimination game - they were physical and made it tough all night. Caitlin was catching a lot of flack for her inefficiency, but her shooting percentage night to night doesn't really concern me. She definitely needs to clean up the TOs though, hopefully that will come with time as the Fever have time to gel a little more.

Michael! That means a lot man. I would say, luckily for Caitlin is Indiana is in a MUCH BETTER situation than New York was in those early Sabrina years. Boston is better than anyone they had and there's some good building blocks as well, along with a real, long-term coaching staff. Also, Caitlin is definitely a better athlete, ball-handler and finisher than Sabrina, which I think makes defending her a lot easier said than done. The turnovers will come down for sure

Enjoyed the Commentary and Key Points Hunter 👍 I personally think Teams are going to just continue putting 2 or more on Caitlin and putting pressure on her every game. Teams have already figured that out so far. It’s kind of like in football, if you don’t run the ball much, other teams will stack the Defense into coverage knowing you’ll pass, on the other hand if you establish the running game, other teams have to respect it and Adjust , and that will open up a alot more options. The Fever have got to find a way to strategically get other players besides Aaliya into the Mix more to the lane and Basket and not just on the outside like I’ve seen in the first 2 games. I know that it’s only preseason, and the fact that Caitlin is still just a rookie in this League, it’s gonna take time and adjustment. There’s also been too many missed shots underneath when Caitlin was passing the ball Around to people close to the Basket. They need to improve there too, Because you just can’t be missing that many buckets that close to the basket over and over, and expect to win alot of games that way. I do have Faith in The Fever, Their My Team, and The Solid Talent is All There, But even as a Diehard Fever Fan, I would be outright lying to say that there isnt alot to work on and Improve on, Because there is a Great deal to work on for the Whole Team

Sides was/is well aware of what she was getting in Caitlin; she understand what 'all this' is about...the fact that what's happening in the WNBA now is mostly because of CC and the special gift she has of shooting the long threes. I don't think she'd be foolish enough to hobble that cash cow (that was NOT me calling Caitlin a cow. 😂 I love that kid). She's just saying that there's enough room there to develop that other aspect of her game, which is the mid-range. When she said 'bad habits from college', I very much doubt she was referring to what put Clark on the map. She'd have to be really stupid to do that, and I don't think she's stupid.
