@Ireconic Beats personally I'm an fl studio user and I have both of these. You should download waveform as it's easier to learn than cakewalk

@Ireconic Beats if you’re not happy with the FL Studio demo then go for it. You’ll be able to save and open your saved projects with these but the workflow is a bit different as FL Studio kind of has a workflow of its own.

Probably there are not many who realize that back in the day, Cakewalk was the one and only software for midi sequencing. Of course, everything has changed since the 90's, especially the instrument sounds. VSTi vs General midi... But I think that Cakewalk is still doing well today and it's a tool for professionals... and now it's free! I use Cakewalk always when I work with both audio and midi. To me, the strength of Cakewalk is total control over midi sequencing.

I downloaded Cakewalk during lockdown. I remember before I even had a DAW I saw demos of Cakewalk and was impressed by the virtual instruments that come with it. It also comes with the TTS-1 general midi 2 sound module making it possible to create anything entirely using stock VSTs.

According to me (as a beginner),I think tracktion is more easy to use and simplicity help you compose good music. On the other hand cakewalk is more towards professionalism. I've used both the daws. I use tracktion for composition or to create outline of my song and cakewalk for mixing and mastering the song. Once I get the idea on waveform of how my composition should be, I dial into cakewalk and record it. This way I use both the daws and theirs features. I'm new to cakewalk so its kinda complex than waveform. But I think it gives better environment to create your master piece. If you're just starting with music production I'll recommend you to get to waveform first and get use to the working of a daw. And once you gain ample of experience you should switch to cakewalk.

i use both too but i feel like my laptops going to break i probably just need an upgrade but even then it’s still a lot of storage so i’m trying to narrow down to one i really like how easy cakewalk is tho i started without reading any manuals or watching many videos and with just playing around i basically figured out how it worked but with waveform it took me longer and I had to watch more videos even with the pop-ups that tell you how to work it

This is a great workflow. Cakewalk is a mixing powerhouse, and it's great to do your composition in one DAW (Waveform, Ableton Live, FL Studio et al) then export the tracks to Cakewalk for final mixing (and mastering). The console/mixer view in Cakewalk is second to none, IMO.

Every DAW has its weakness, but having seriously trialled most of the popular ones, I settled on Waveform. For me, and it's a personal thing, Waveform's workflow is quicker and slicker than Cakewalk. The pattern generator is a secret weapon, and you can use subfolders to host several MIDI pattern tracks, like long chords and arpeggios, and have a single synth plugin in the parent track playing the different subfoldered tracks. I do this all the time, and it's a neat trick to get an interesting and complex keyboard part by mixing long chords and arpegios.

Bandlab Assistant update issues basically went away with the latest version that came out this month. Interesting giving the nod to Tracktion on the interface as I consider Cakewalk to be lightyears ahead. That being said, I do use two monitors and that really changes the workflow. I was too stupid for most DAWs so I stuck to FL Studio but this guy made me want to try Traction. I've tried Cakewalk long time ago. For some reason I was too stupid for that one too. I just want something intuitive for stupid people. From what I've seen automation in Traction happen from a menu while in FL studio from twisting a knob and assigning automation. That's one thing that I like about FL. What I don't like in FL is that for some reason I keep opening and closing windows all the time which gets on my nerve. I try to arange them so they don't get in the way but they always do. So the modular freedom isn't always that freeing.

What I like the most Waveform: One type of track, racks and runs on linux. Cakewalk: MIDI (scales, articulation maps and many edition tools) Both are very good, butI think waveform is better for beginners. Cakewalk is more traditional, so is easy if you have experience with other DAWs and make easy to jump to other DAW when you know how to use it.

I really like Waveform because the workflow is easy and modern. But, the biggest drawback for me is VST3 plugins sometimes don't work and are unstable (even the latest update from Waveform). So, I switched to Cakewalk and it's more stable to load VST3 plugins. There haven't been any problems so far when using VST3 plugins. And the plus is, I love Matrix, Step Sequencer, and Pro Channels built-in plugins per track. But sadly, the workflow is a bit harder than Waveform. And no LFO automation for Cakewalk. But, it's okay for me. I never use LFO automation anyway.

Thanks for this video ! - Question : how comes CW weighs so much more than its challenger ? - CW is a powerhouse all right. But to really use that power, you must remember a lot of rather illogical interface choices, even if you are used to other "classical" DAWs. I am discovering WF, I think it is at the same time innovating and logical. - Yet CW has one important advantage : it has a score editor ! Maybe for some styles you do not need it that much (although it can always come in handy) but if you're into songwriting, blues, jazz, pop, classical... nothing can really replace that. Hear me, Tracktion ? - Included plugins should not be a decision-making point. There are hundreds of free VSTs around, some of them excellent. Even if you are on a budget, carefully choosing two or three that you will love for years and know inside out can be worth paying. - If something does not work, one must not necessarily accuse the DAW. The problem can be a little something silently gone wrong in your system, and programmers can not foresee every possible problem. Cubase will not install on my PC, because it considers it is 32 bit, although it is 64. Steinberg could not find any solution. Hope my English is all right.

I tried both of these recently and I have to say I prefer using cakewalk. Waveform had one simple problem that I could not figure out in that it simply wouldn't play back my recorded audio when I hit the big obvious play button. Maybe I needed an amp plug in for it to make any sound but I got no notification of such thing being an issue like I did with the midi keys I was recording as well. The only way it would play back audio was by double clicking the individual clip and it would simply play the loop and I was constantly doing that while trying to move or resize the clip. With cakewalk, it was much more straightforward. Open a track, record it, and it played back. And adding new plug ins is intuitive enough that I'm definitely committed to learning how to maximize the potential of what this software offers. Maybe I could have gotten more out of waveform if I put more time into figuring it out but with both being free, it was an easy decision just to try the other one after trying the first one.

After trying the six that did download I found that Waveform seemed the most intuitive for me so I made a commitment to master it. It has never disappointed me. Anything that I want to do, Waveform supports and once I watch one of your videos I can make it work! That said, I recently discovered Mixbus by Harrison (built on the Ardour platform). It's a very different kind of DAW but I'm loving it. I have limited CPU, and I think what you're referring to is when all of the plugins crash when the "sandboxing" crashes, when you use to much CPU for your computer. All you do is enable sandboxing again, but it might crash again unless you remove a plugin. I recently watched a video that said that you don't need to run all of the plugins in the sandbox, running them in the sandbox uses extra CPU, so if you trust a plugin, you can untick sandboxing for that plugin, saving CPU. Before doing that though, you can varify the plugin if you want, just by clicking a button. If it passes the tests, it doesn't need to be run in the sandbox. This has saved me a lot of CPU in my mixes, I can use a lot more plugins at the one time now. Something else I found was it's best to wait until the background tasks are completed before trying to play a mix with a lot of plugins, that's the main reason the plugins crash when you try to play an edit that worked fine when you saved it, you just have to wait a minute until there's enough CPU free. I don't think any of this is the program's fault, except perhaps for the fact that it sandboxes every plugin by default, making it use more CPU than is necessary, but at least you're protected from shoddy or malicious plugins, and it's not hard to remove trusted plugins from the sandboxing list. If you have a decent computer, I don't think you have these problems anyway.

Cakewalk - huge value for such a full-scale DAW. It's only free because a young Asian millionaire (his Dad a palm oil billionaire I believe) bought Sonar, but that's good fortune for DAW users. With its origins in MIDI, Cakewalk has massive MIDI functionality compared to, for example, Studio One, and other more modern DAWs that were written when many in the industry assumed MIDI was a dying format.

Oh cmon, you gotta pick one! I personally started out in 2014 with Sonar X3. Loved it. Such an intuitive DAW. Packed with powerhouse features. But I eventually moved on after Gibson took over. I eventually tried Waveform, and for me, Waveform is the best free DAW. It’s logical, nice to look at, less cluttered, innovative and forward looking, modern, has useful action bars, a much better midi editor, a pattern generator like Scaler built right in, track recall (for arrangement experimentation), and chord and arrangement tracks. Cakewalk was once a premium DAW, and it can still be a great free DAW for beginners or those on a budget. But Waveform is just too good to pass up. Best free DAW, hands down. Cakewalk is just a bit too old.

Great video. I think showing the mixer on the waveform screen would have been a good idea though, when that's up, you have the more traditional view found in DAWs like cakewalk combined with Waveform's style of interface. I'm pointing that out for people reading this comment later, they might think you don't get that mixing desk view in Waveform. The channel strip in Cakewalk was interesting, but Waveform's Racks do the same thing, with much more variation. I haven't really tried many of the preloaded racks to be honest, I've just made my own, which really couldn't be easier. I'm really happy with Waveform, as someone used to analogue mixing, I found it very easy to adapt to using it, but I'm still sort of using an analogue approach. As time goes on though, I'm learning to get the most out of it and do things the easy way. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a DAW to do some recording.

I’ve tried LMMS and actually have a few videos on it. These are quite a bit more advanced than LMMS. If you just want to toy around with some midi then LMMS can be alright. But these have better midi capabilities while adding a ton of other features.

Very helpful video. I'm transferring from proTools First that came with my Focusrite AAudio Interface because AVID is not supporting Pro tools First. Tried Cakewalk and it looks like an easy transition from Pro tools First. Haven't tried Waveform yet, but will.

So this is the exact point I am at in my journey with music making software... deciding between Waveform and Cakewalk. I currently have Cakewalk installed and I am doing OK in it. But I think I might give WF another try. I also do video editing and the interface of Waveform seems more like a non-linear video editor so might be better suited to me. I am a complete noob to creating music on the computer. I just got a M-Audio Keystation mini 32 Mk3 as a cheap intro to midi keyboards. If I am a beginner, which do you think is the best to start with? I have no plans to become a studio engineer so learning the "traditional" style of DAW is not important. Love your channel, btw. Keep it up!

Personally I find the workflow of Waveform easier. I’ve been using Waveform as my go to DAW for a couple years now and I’ve really been enjoying it but everyone is different. Give it a try and see what you think. If Cakewalk works better for you then stick with it. Or switch to waveform if it fits your style better. Thank yo for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

Hey, I have been using waveform 11 that comes with my behringer product. The first song I recorded, it came out very great. But I think I may have changed a setting or clicked a button wrongly because now my mic gain is suddenly very low and gives a hiss type of noise too. I didn't have a problem with it on my first recording. Same day, it happened when I went on for the chorus. Tried doing all my best to reset it but it didn't help. Everything is perfect, the connections, sound and all. But I think the mic gain setting for the daw is suddenly changed. Can you please give a solution to this? Please.

Which one out of this two would you say is better for cinematic/epic music production? Specially when it comes to instruments.
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV 3 года назад
If built in instruments is what you want, Cakewalk has more but with either option you’re likely going to want to add third party instruments and both will allow you to do that. Both will work for what you want. It comes down to which one’s workflow you prefer. You should maybe download both and see what one you like best.

@@AudioTechTV It's because I'm coming from garage band for iPad and I was looking for something similar in the way that they have tons of instruments for midi and hundreds of synthesizers. I heard waveform had something called collective which seems the most similar to me but I'm not sure. I also tried downloading cakewalk but they only have like 3 instruments, or I don't know where to find the others.

Hi can you show us how to build a chanel strip for Waveform please. i am quite new to that daw and kinda have issues with it for there is no chanelstrip and i found it very hard to work without allthoug i got around without. one major issue i have is the transport console : you are not able to move it up for example Lol i am so used to the cakewalk transport console that i allways find my self going up with the mouse. If there is a possibility to change the position of the console and to build a chanelstrip that is allways there ( similar to cakewlak ) it were very nice if you could do a video on that thank you alot : you was the reason i downloaded Tracktion and i like it but there are these things. one thing - and i cant find the reason for that - does disturb me alot: i made e beat for a song and now when i open the project that beat is only partialy there i dono how that happens in WF or why but i have to redo that beat

Hi, thanks for your video. I ask you and the "Waveform 11 Community" if this DAW consumes a lot of resources. I have an Intel i5 3rd gen PC + 12 GB RAM + 480 GB SSD with Windows 10 Pro. My legal Mixcraft 9 Pro, bought and paid for, CRASHES with plugins that are not up to date, you know well why(!) I ask you for advice please because sometimes my DAW wrecks all the work of hours and hours, although it is the easiest to handle. This Waveform 11 lifts "all" plugins? VST2 VST3 regardless of where they come from? It consumes as many resources as Reaper, more or less? I thank you each and everyone for your answer. Best regards.

is there a way to do midi panic in waveform ? i'm using synth1 vst and sometimes it bugs with sound still playing when i do nothing so i need midi panic to stop it (i could of course use external keyboard or software but it's not practical if there's a solution directly from waveform). if i close waveform and then restart it, synth1 vst don't work anymore. to fix this i've loaded it in reaper (takes a moment because of that bug reaper need to fix it before loading) and i can then use it in waveform again but it's also laborious to do that each time it bugs. is there a macro reference manual somewhere ?
