I don’t know if anyone remembers, but if you replay the game, when watching the cutscene of the calamity the King says that “Ganon” suddenly appeared underground. It is also stated that the King was given advice (form the goddess I think) that to prepare themselves for Calamity Ganon they would find their answer under the surface. They could’ve misinterpreted that as the guardians and the divine beasts, but maybe the goddess meant the corpse of Ganondorf since he is most likely the source of the malice

So you're telling me I spent 200+ hours getting better to continuously beat down a PUPPET. Absolutely worth it. Edit: I'm not saying it took 200 hours for me to beat it I'm saying I used it to get more stuff so I could repeatedly beat him and get extra stuff.

I agree with you. Ever since I played BotW, I've always seen Calamity Ganon as a strange force, but not glorious enough to be called another form of "Ganon".

If Calamity Ganon is a Phantom Ganon. Then that would make BOTW the first game that focuses on making Phantom Ganon the main boss.

My brother has a theory (and I agree) that the Luminous Stones found in Hyrule are possibly the souls or sealed magic of the Zonai tribe. The Zonai did disappear thousands of years before BOTW, after all, and the stones do glow the same colour as the magic holding back the Malice in the trailer. I also think that the reason the Zonai disappeared is because they gave their lives to seal Ganondorf away, with the Shiekah using their ability to create ReDeads to keep Ganondorf's spirit from completely abandoning the corpse. The Zonai could also be the whispers begging for help in the reversed teaser trailer. This is all just speculation, especially the whispers in the trailer. What I just covered, along with some other things from this channel, is all I really have to go on. I could be dead wrong, but it makes more sense the more I think about it.

There is actually a very grave mistranslation in the English version of Breath of the Wild and I think everyone should be aware of that while theorising for this game. The problem is when Dark Beast Ganon first appears. In the English version Zelda describes him like this: "He has given up on reincarnation and assumed his pure, enraged form." But in the Japanese version Zelda says: "This form was born from his obsessive refusal to give up on revival…" So while the English version makes us think that Breath of the Wild finally breaks Demise's cycle of hatred, this in actuality isn't true at all. That explains why there is still more evil to be found, as seen in this trailer.

This could also explain why ganon is in a Zonai temple if he was alive thousands of years ago so would the zonai two meaning there may be some large connections between the zonai tribe....

Calamity Ganon was a nightmare given form, and with the nightmare defeated the dreamer has awakened. DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNN

I think it was always implied that Calamity Ganon was never anything more than a huge Blight Ganon. If memory serves me, the Calamity was literally an amalgamation of all the blights. I think now that the Calamity was simply the result of eons of malice seeping out of Ganondorf's corpse. The hand is acting as a makeshift plug to a punctured pipe. It's keeping the malice from rupturing out in force, but there is still a lesser amount seeping out due to the pressure. Once it gathers to a great enough mass it attains a crude form of sentience. But the source has always been Ganondorf's tortured remains. When the Calamity was defeated, millennia went by before enough malice oozed out to coalesce into another Calamity. This was likely an unexpected result of an attempt by the ancient Zonai to end the cycle of Ganon's reincarnations. I also wonder if that hand was once a complete body that has been slowly dissolving over the eons. Once the body completely disintegrates, the spell has run its course and seal is broken. And as it dissolves the effectiveness of the magic loses potency and more and more malice seeps through. The ancient Sheikah knew of this and calculated when the Calamity would emerge. That's how they knew to prepare ahead of time with the Guardians and Divine Beasts. It worked the first time, but the Calamity said, "fool me once...".

It is literally an extension of Ganon’s soul. It is both Ganon, and a puppet he is controlling. The body mummified bellow Hyrule Castle, and the miasma that is the corruption, are both Ganon. The Zelda says about Ganon trying to making himself a new vessel isn’t hyperbole; he was trying to make a new body his soul could reside in. His real body is bound below Hyrule Castle, which we see his energy pouring out of it. His plan was probably to create a vessel that he could transfer all of his soul to to escape his imprisonment.

I had a theory way back 2017. I think the reason that the Guardians and Divine Beasts were hidden because they (the ones who created the prophecy) know that the return of Calamity Ganon would corrupt them.

I just want Ganondorf again. Seeing calamity Ganon was cool because he embodied the wild nature of pure evil, which was one of the themes of the game, but hearing ganondorf talk would be amazing

My theory is that the ethereal hand is made of the souls of the zonai tribe, explaining why they all disappeared Edit: it could also be a possibility that the ethereal hand is keeping whichever ganon this is alive, thus attempting to break the cycle of resurrection

Zeltik! I was surprised you didn't mention the similarities between Phantom Ganon of OoT and Calamity Ganon. One of the most disappointing aspects of BOTW, to me, was the lack of personality (and total lack of dialogue) of Calamity Ganon. Phantom Ganon did not have any dialogue either, because he is a puppet, just like Calamity Ganon did not have a personality or dialogue for that same reason. I think and hope your theory is correct, and in the BOTW sequel, the true Ganondorf will have some personality via dialogue. This would totally redeem the lack thereof in BOTW.

I haven't felt this hyped for a game in so long, I'd almost forgotten what it feels like. A single trailer and it's already my most looked forward to game in years.

After completing TOTK, maybe I missed some crucial dialogue, but I’m still having trouble on the connection with Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf; wondering if Calamity Ganon was his own separate entity from past games which makes either there was two Ganondorfs existing at the same time, TOTK Ganondorf is a reincarnation that’s aware of his predecessor(s), or the calamity was some evil presence TOTK Ganondorf had been leaking out.

was watching videos of the trailer in reverse. i made out the words "oh hyrule, why did you hide the body". thats the clearest i could get them to sound to me too. others heard differently but i feel like what i heard just makes sort of the most sense.

In every other game where Phantom Ganon made an appearance, Ganondorf spent very little time creating it. In BOTW he secretly spent ten THOUSAND YEARS creating this new phantom under Hyrule Castle. He really did give up on reincarnation and instead focused on playing the long game with his neverending malice. Damn that's good

You should try “unscrambling” the video, or try putting the trailer into chronological order. Then see if the audio played backwards in 2x speed has any hidden messages... So far people have only tried putting the trailer in “order” or playing the audio backwards, not both together. I want to know if there’s some sort of extra hidden message...

It's a pretty straight forward and believable theory. Calamity Ganon being a mere apparition conjured from Malice could also explain why the divine beasts were able to take it on and defeat it in the 10,000 year old legend. It would also give context behind Ganon suddenly taking such a bizarre and foreign form in Breath of the Wild when compared to the rest of the series.
