You are the first person who has mentioned that the sun tracks way north in the summer. Same here, so rooms w/ a southern exposure get much less light than rooms w/ a northern exposure. In the winter, anything near a southern window will cook. Right now my Dottie and prayer plants are getting consistent gentle light in a room w/ north and west facing windows.

.. I boil my tap water, run it through a paper coffee filter, cools it off and it is ready for use.. I use it for watering and misting all of my plants.. And since I've got both Calatheas orchids and few others that I had to make water to, I decided that I could just as well go for them all, instead of just some.. And the result is rewarding.. They are so much happier..

Calathea QUEEN ♡ My collection has grown a lot in the last few months. I love the challenge of providing for calatheas, I feel like it's so rewarding. 😊 Video suggestion: calathea collection! Maybe in the rating of which you purchased first or most to least stubborn/hard to care for, etc.

Hi! 😊 They really keep me on my toes! Your suggestion is a great idea! I've never done anything like that before and will definitely think about how to put it together. Thank you!!!

@@AddyBeez I would love love love this video. Would be so cool to see your entire collection. Calatheas only though. No imposters like the triostar ;). (I have one btw no hate)

Looking forward to the other part(s) of this series! My lancifolia just opened two new leaves that were incredibly pale and almost translucent. I have heard that too much direct light can fade the patterning on Calatheas. It was about 4 feet from an eastern window and it’s the winter, so I’m not sure how it could have been too much light. Would love to hear your advice on how to prevent future leaves from looking sickly. Love your content!

Very informative! Will look into the water distiller for just my crispy calatheas. Your 🐱s and 🐶s are so cute. 🙂

Aw, my little pets thank you! I really do like having the water distiller. I moved a ficus lyrata outside for the summer and have been using the hose on it--it isn't happy so back to distilled water all around, I guess. At least my philodendrons cut me a break.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I'm wondering if you use fans to circulate the air. I use two clip-on fans like you might use in an office to keep air moving in my main plant area. I have rarely had any fungal issues. I have not been using a humidifier although the idea of using a diffuser (sans oil) sounds like an inexpensive option for the winter heating season. My plant area stay between 50 and 60 percent humidity during most of the year. Winter humidity can be quite low, 39% or lower. Yikes. Do you believe fans would solve some fungal issues?

Your Calathea white star is beautiful. I’ve noticed that very few you tubers own them, maybe because they’re difficult to care for. They’re such an exotic plant, expensive and hard to find. It would be nice if you could make a care tip video about this plant.

Thanks, Eva! 😊 That's a great idea and I will certainly put something together. I did get the large whitestar from planterina.com, and so it arrived in incredibly pristine condition which makes it easier to care for over time.

@@AddyBeez hi. Doubt you'll see this but! Any recommendations for website like planterina that ship to Canada?!?! Thanks

@@JeffTaylor7 Unfortunately, I don't. I ended up relying more on Etsy sellers and have had good results. However, shops like planterina.com have really high quality, mature plants for sale whereas on Etsy, I tend to find younger plants. For me, younger plants aren't quite hardy yet and usually require more care as they move into maturity. If I slack with the younger ones, they don't mature as nicely and some even stunt in growth. I can correct some of the issues that develop but I also have calatheas that I got as tiny little plantlets that just won't ever be as strong as calatheas that matured in a nursery with maximum care. While I'm getting better at helping plants mature in my home, it is nice to be able to buy more mature plants that require half of the care.

Thank you, I have learned great care-tips from you. I am new to caletheas, I love the look, not so much the care, but the challenge intrigues me. I have not heard of the neem-oil drench on the roots. What is the ratio? Once you mentioned in another video, that you do not use terra cotta pots for caletheas. Why? Thank you for the distilled water- making demo, I never thought of being able to make distilled water at home!

Hi! Just found your channel and I love all your advice for calathea care! Thanks for creating a space for calathea lovers! I just got a calathea "beauty star" last week and put it in a northwest facing window. It seems happy, there are 3 new growths coming upwards. However, one of the new leaves is pushing up against the older leaves, which makes the whole pot look crowded Does this mean I should cut away some of the older leaves? Or do the leaves like to be crowded together? Thanks again!

Thanks for video. Very informative. Any advice on what the following might be ( on triostar calathea): white, chalk like stains on leaves and browning of the tip and then slowly yellowing of the leaf to then become some sort of dried out whiteish leaf ( gradually from the leaf tip onwards). I guess they are quite small and insignificant for now but just wondering. Thanks!

Great video!! Do Calatheas need to be humidified straight on? Or does humidity need to be in the air?
