PAGLAUM EPISODE 8: SENIORS ON THE GO: LIVING WITHOUT PERMANENT HOME
A couple in their senior years has yet to make a living for their daily needs. They are without the care and assistance of their children who seemed to have forgotten all about their forebears.
The woman, in her late 70's, engaged in selling sandwiches of bread-and-egg but had to stop because it was not profitable. It did not make them earn for their daily needs.
The man was a pedicab driver until the toll of time no longer made him cope with the physical demands of transporting passengers/cargoes thru pedaling. He is now 83 years old.
They were residing in a makeshift dwelling in Barangay West Awang, Calbayog City, until the living conditions in the area became toxic to people of their age with no one and nobody to take care and assist them.
They now stay in a house owned by one of the man's nephews in Purok 3, Barangay Obrero, Calbayog City. They are not demanded of house rentals but had to pay bills for water and electricity.
Thru the initiatives of the Office of Vice Mayor Rex Daguman, the senior couple was made beneficiary for assistance in terms of groceries, rice and cash.
