We cover how to calculate your UK Income Tax in Excel. The UK follows a progressive system and therefore, the VLOOKUP function with its approximate match is particularly useful when calculating tax payments. We will start by calculating the deduction in the tax-free allowance based on the taxable income to account for incomes above £100,000. We will then identify the amount payable in each tax band. Following this, we will calculate intermediary calculations including the amount payable in the previous tax band, the rate of the current tax band and the amount payable in the current tax band. Finally, we will use these intermediary calculations to calculate the annual and monthly tax payable.

This is a really useful video thank you. May I ask, is there an easy way, to run cumulative monthly income figures into this spreadsheet which then show/indicate when approaching the higher bands? For example, if a second job could be reduced in the months approaching the higher bands, to ensure Personal allowance remains intact?

Your tutorials are really great! Just became a self-employed with this Covid mess and trying to figure how to manage my book-keeping. Your videos were the most helpful I could find. Any chance you could also make the Excel sheet available? Thanks!

why is if the total income is 120000 pounds, the taxable rate is 45 percent based on your formulas?

Hiya! Back again, Is there a way to calculate gross income from a net income amount IE: if you take home £24,000 your gross salary is £30,000 or therabouts? :)
@theexcelhub
@theexcelhub 3 года назад
You can do this by going into the data tab > what if analysis > goal seek. For set cell: select J20, the annual tax payment. For to value: type the value of the annual tax payment (gross income - net income). For by changing cell: select the taxable (gross) income, cell C16. Excel will then automatically tell you what the gross income is for the given net income amount. Hope that helps!

Difficult to follow because you are not showing the formulas as you input them. Need the actual file but the link to the copy excel file is dead. Not much use otherwise

There's something wrong in your tax payable at £150000. Toggle the formula down i get £42000 not £47000 as i said earlier fresh true the most important parts without explaining the formula
