It has 20 lines on vernier but marking is 1 to 10 by leaving one line. It gives us two options for least count. First option = pitch divided by 10 divisions = 1mm divided by 10 = 0.1mm 2nd option = pitch divided by 20 divisions ( including those lines which are not marked on vernier caliper) = 1mm divided by 20= 0.05 mm least count So 2nd one is more precise least count so we use 20 lines vernier caliper.
