Calculating Topsoil Volume in Civil 3D using Place Lined Material

On occasion, you may wish to calculate material volumes for items associated with corridor daylighting. These materials might include things like topsoil, rip rap or seeded grass. In this session we’ll look at a way to calculate materials like these using Civil 3D’s “Place Lined Material” option.

hello.can you create surface from cross sections?? for km0 to 800 we have 20 cross sections (pline and come from autocad), now,we need to create 1 surface from this plines.tanks from iran!

Jeff, I would like to know how I can import solid 3D objects into infraworks, because my Civil3D 2019 version doesn't have FBX anymore, my version is from infraworks 2019 ..... 3D objects don't matter in any format that appears in the import tab I've tried them all.... Altamira Pará Brasil.

If you are still able to download 2018 then do that. I have 2018 installed for this very reason. Don't know why Autodesk removed the feature.

Cheers Jeff! Im currently working on my Civil 3d template for our company, dunno where to contact you, but ill try here. Do you know is there a bug with Datum/Formation (Generic subassemblies - LinkSlopeToLevel and LinkWidthAndSlope) codes constantly changing, even if you import all codes in most of the code set styles. Its been a problem for me, cause i cant use proper labeling. Thanks in advance! Big fan from Croatia! Keep up the good work, professor!

Hi Josip, I am not aware of a bug related to the items you mentioned. That said, I recommend reaching out to the Autodesk partner from whom you acquired your Civil 3D and log a support ticket. The support person can verify if a defect has been logged and/or work with you to resolve the issue.

A very basic way to do this is You have Surface A (your site.) 1. Create new surface (Surface B) 2. In the definition , under edits -> paste surface (surface A) . Now raise/lower by your value. Eg. -0.3m. 3. Add a boundary 4. Do the same for a Surface C. Dropping by a different amount for different surface type. 5. Create a new surface . Paste surface A, then B, then C. From least elevation difference to most. You now have a composite surface.

Decent PC specs. I'd suggest having one file which has the horizontal and vertical alignment. Share these out via data reference. Create several files so you reduce the file size for each corridor. Such as 1km sections. Turn off auto corridor rebuild.
