any easier way to remember is 3 dimensions =volume=length width and height= x,y,and z are like the length width and height of the object you are graphing Z is obviously the height x is probably the length and y is like the width. you can also remember the Cartesian cordinate plane as are because of only dimensions height and width.

Great explanation. I would like to ask a question if you do not mind. I have a phantom with a fixed set of (x,y,z) points. It was scanned 3 times, but every time, the location of phantom was changed, i.e. same points, gave different (x,y,z) values. I want to put them on same graph and show how much deviation in 3scans, But because the (x,y,z) is different, it shows very big variation, in reality, i am sure it is very small, coz points are fixed. Please help me to unify the origin or what to do

I saw an example of the 3 dimensional plane in chapter 8 of a lower six maths book from 2d to 3d the equations ax + by = c or ax + by + c = 0 where c is a constant .I think for the 3d equations it's x + y + z = c. Does it matter which way the graphed axis x ,y and z are written could it be any order ? .
@MathFortress
@MathFortress 4 года назад
Does not matter.

why is the 3d one not having x across and y up and down and z for depth? why does it have to be rotated like that?

Math is my niche. Took a 5 hour accelerated Calculus I course in 7 weeks time. PhD Prof gave up 150-200 problems to work after EVERY class. Stayed up till 2-3AM each night/morning working the probs. Final counted double. One A equals 20 quality points on the semester system. Took 3 hour Chemistry, never studied but relied on what I knew & from chem in high school. Made a B but don't know how, I did not study as Cal I took all the time up. Next 5hr course Cal II was easier, reg semester.

If you study physics you will use it in your electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics course. If you are an economist you will use it when solving nonlinear programming problems. If you want to use math in real life become an "actuary" they use math every day to quantify risk. The wavy surface can be used to describe max wells equations. Nearly every single field of math has applications in real life, if it does not then no one has discovered why its useful yet.

What is difference between octant and quadrant?
@MathFortress
@MathFortress 6 лет назад
Quadrants are partitions in a 2D Cartesian coordinate system. Octants are partitions in a 3D coordinate system.
@Nickuncle

So...this question gets asked a lot, and I'm sure it's annoying but...what is Calculus 3 even used for? Sure I can graph a wavy surface, but what does that do for me?

can you take calculus 4 without taking calculus 3?
@MathFortress
@MathFortress 10 лет назад
If by calculus 4 you are referring to "Linear Algebra" then yes you can take that before this one. Some students also take linear algebra and Multivariable calculus together. Some schools also incorporate linear algebra with differential equations.
@B.A.Gondal
@B.A.Gondal 10 лет назад
Math Fortress Hey, no Calculus 4 is different than Linear Algebra, its specific name is "Vector Calculus" and Calculus 3 is Multivariate Calculus. I am taking Linear Algebra rightnow.
@MathFortress
@MathFortress 10 лет назад
Asymptote Multivariable calculus and vector calculus usually means the same thing. Some university call them differently but I am guessing that your school breaks apart calculus III into 2 series one is multivariable calculus and then vector calculus. In general you need to know multivariable calculus before you attempt to do vector calculus.
