This video will show you how to do the quotient rule for derivatives. Remember to use this rule when you want to take the derivative of one function divided by another. To help remember the formula don't forget "low dee high, high dee low, over low squared." For more videos please visit www.mysecretmat...

my teacher taught me to remember it to the tune of 'row, row, row your boat' and it helps immensely! low low low dee high minus high dee low, over the over the over the over the square of what's below! :)

I’ve been coming back to this video since pre calc/calc in highschool. I’m now a junior in college and I can’t remember the formula. You have no idea how grateful I am for your video.

I hate when you skip the simplifying steps. I need help with both and you could easily extend the video by just a little and would do wonders for me.

This is the way I was taught the quotient rule. I love it because it rhymes:"low, low, low, d high minus high d low, square the bottom, not the top, that's the way it goes"

At first i also confused while watching above video at 4:55 ....... than i scroll down to find answer i found that many other have confused too so i looked up again very closely and Wallah find the logic he get the common x(xe^x-2e^x)/x^4 and than cancelled it with single x in denominator and get xe^x-2e^x/x^3 ;D simple :D

@vze1lat7
@vze1lat7 5 лет назад
No, the terms are preceeded by a minus sign. So that when you multiply 1x3x^2= 3x^2, -x^2* 3x^2 = -3x^4 , you are subtracting thus negating all the signs of each term inside the grouping symbol; -(3x^2-3x^4 )

I'm confused. In the first example, in simplifying the final answer, why the 2x was also cancelled and the denominator turns into x^3?
@HannagraceHonrade
@HannagraceHonrade 5 лет назад
He just simply factor x^2e^x-2xe^x all over x^4 ---> x(xe^x-2e^x)all over x^4 ---> then cancel x at the numerator and x^4 becomes x^3
@asyrafebo4609

@@HannagraceHonrade ahh he factor it first, then cancelled for both num and deno. that's why deno left with x^3. How can i forget that hahaha thanks bro

In the first example why did you not cancel out the x squared in the numerator? Because x^4 can technically cancel out x^2 and this become x^2 since it is to the 4th
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 5 лет назад
We would have to factor before we worry about canceling. Thin the first example we could only factor out an x. Then we could cancel that x with one from the x^4. This would turn the expression into ( x e^x - 2 e^x ) / x^3 Let me know if that helps out. :^D

@thealchemist01
@thealchemist01 Год назад
He took an x outside from the numerator so it becomes: x(xe^x - e^x 2) / x^4 Now you can divide the outside x on the numerator by one x on the denominator, i.e x/x^4 which will make the denominator x^3 Hope that helps and correct me if I'm wrong :)

you can actually simplify it easier if you cancelled out the one denominator less and the numerator similar to it.

Kavya Saxena by arranging it. -2x^4 + 3x^4 = x^4 and copy the rest to highest exponent to low.

Hello, i am just wondering on the 2nd to the last example you gave why did you not cancel out both e^x in x^2 e^x - e^x 2x? i am a beginner in math and i am just kinda confused

If you reverse distribution X^2e^x - e^x2X = e^x(X^2 - 2X). You can’t cancel e^x with nothing.

Question, at 7:49 can't you distribute to the [x^3 + 1]^2 and simplify it even further or am I misunderstanding something?
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 5 лет назад
You might be able to simplify it further, but careful not to distribute. When looking for things to cancel out we want to see the factors. This means it would be a good idea to factor the x^3 + 1 piece using the sum of cubes formula. Then we could also work on factoring the top. From here we could check for common factors to cancel out. You should get: x(x-2) / (x^2 - x + 1)^2
