Yes many have passed...they were lucky to witness life in the old Calcutta...those days will never come back..our beautiful Calcutta has changed..2024@@MoneyWayschannel
Nostalgic indeed....post ww2 era...the city I was born in ...new market was best that way...the way I remember it...cant recognized it now...changed completely
Lovely awesome pics ! But many of the photos date much after 1902.One of the ways I came to that conclusion is the different car models / Makes shown are from much later than 1902!
Most of the pics are in fact from the 1944- 46 As a young boy growing up in Cal, I remember the Yanks in town. The pics of them were taken at the New Market, Lighthouse cinema, Firpo's in Cowringhee. The cars in the pics are 1940's models, some are Americans. The reason for the American prescense
Great pictures indeed.This are real jewels. Kolkata now is lots more cleaner and decent now compared to 1945 era. I would imagine how would Calcutta look like in 17 th century, especially the Kalighat from where the city derived it's name and Alipore prison during its construction period.
Wonderful classic photos but surely not from 1902..May have been around 1940s ..O guess lots of buildings shown including Howrah railway station were not built in 1902 ..but still thanks for the golden pictures..
Typo: The Americans were there because Japan had invade Burma and hoping to get a foothold in India. They had bombed Cal, and the Port of Vizag in AP, they also occupied the Andaman Islands. The Allies; Brit's. Indian Army and Aussies were stopping the Japanese invasion. This was the contraversy Subhas Chandra Bose was implied in when he sought help from the Japanese at this time.
What u are looking at is not india's calcutta but british calcutta . It was the first capital of india....a very important city for british in those days.
this is not 1902.. those car seen in pic were not even seen in Newyork or london at that time. As those models were not even invented in 1902. Those models seen were actually post WWII Model.
Calcutta used to be developed city on those days...but today its looks under developed...so don't elect uneducated and lack of visionary leader....they ruined the development... But old Calcutta is good....
There weren t any US-army jeeps in Calcutta in 1902..and none of the cars seen in this picture..in a 1902 picture of Calcutta there would have been horse carriages..not US-jeeps.
