When I was 12 years old I started playing Alto Sax. I went to the local record store in the mall with my dad. This album was on the turntable, being played while we were in the store. I was stricken by the music. The demo copy was the only one they had and my dad bought it for me. That was in 1979. I still have that copy. I'm now a guitarist who has played semi professionally for 30 years. Little did I know the impact that not only the sax, but the guitar in Caldera would have on me. I grew up in the Bay Area, so it had that familiar Santana latin feel that I loved. Absolutely great album.
I'm glad you shared that. I really appreciate that you recognize a trajectory in your life that took place because of music. Many people live an entire lifetime and never even recognize things like that while they can appreciate it. I see this comment is 5 years old, but if you're out there in the world, I hope that life is treating you well 🥃
If you please dont mind me asking a question about the time as I was born a little over half a decade after this came out: When you say the this band was huge, what did that mean at that time? Like does that mean they got tons of radio play or play in clubs? Did they have a TV presence? or was it just strictly radio fame? In those times, how did you guys know albums were going to release? Or was it just found at record shops on a whim? I'm just trying to imagine how bands worked during that time and how groups got popular.
Discovered this album in the library in 79, recognized Eddie Del Barrio's name from Earth Wind + Fire's I AM as a session keyboardist. This tune quickly became my favorite, mainly because of Eddie's amazing keyboard sounds and arrangement.
Sounds like something they would put into dragon ball z. Like adventuring through the sky, or the music it makes when your going into the Zeni shop to get clothes and level up.
