PLEASE finish the "MacOS Firmware Updater." The dock is unusable without the fix for to resolve sleep and device ejection issues. It is unconscionable that the firmware update has been available for Windows machines since July.

We are working on it! This situation exposed a pretty deep bug in the macOS firmware updater process that we're working through with the relevant parties. As soon as we have something ready to release, we'll be sharing it.

These jokers have been saying the same thing for 5 months now... "not their fault" and "working on it". This is(?)/was the most expensive hub out there that absolutely does not work, or reliably, as advertised on the M1.

When I first got the TS4 it was running amazing. I could edit videos with an ssd connected to the TS4 and using the blackmagic disk speed test app, I could verify I was getting amazing speed. Then I updated to Ventura and things went downhill (I own the 16" m1 max mbp spec'd out). Now I get 35-40MB/s disk speeds when connecting an SSD to the unit. I only noticed this while editing a video and getting choppy footage. At first I thought it was premiere but when connecting the ssd directly to the computer, it was perfect. I've updated using a spare PC and it still struggles. I've contacted support and basically they said I should have disconnected the unit before updating and that in order to possibly fix the issue, I'd have to reformat my mbp... which just isn't an option for me. Anyway, this is just a warning for anyone who hasn't updated their macs! This is literally an expensive dongle now that sits on my desk.

We've seen Ventura causing some weird behaviors, which tracks with what we usually see when a new iteration of macOS debuts. This usually gets resolved within a few updates, so keep your copy of Ventura up-to-date. If you haven't already, we recommend that you also put in a support case with Apple.

@@CalDigitHQ was able to try the ts4 with another mbp similar to mine without the update and still having issues. Is this possibly a faulty unit? Is there any way to check? A bit frustrating after dishing out so much money.

@@CalDigitHQ just want to update this post. After the newest update on mac I started getting faster speeds but not as fast as before but fast enough to make this more than just a paper weight ha!

@@wortiz33 so after macs latest update, it did speed up the process a bit. Also was able to get my hands on a pc and updated to the latest firmware. But yeah overall wasn’t happy with the service. The product isn’t as fast as before but it’s enough to edit from so that’s enough 👌🏻 good luck!

I’ve bought and used dozens of TB and USB docks for employees in my company and I’ve never found a dock as good as or better than CalDigit’s TS3+ and TS4+. I liked them enough to personally buy one (each), and I normally am really a cheap bastard.

If my Dell XPS 9520 has a 130 watt OEM charging cable, will relying on the 98 watts from the TS4 compromise the performance of my laptop in any way? If no, great. If yes, what happens when I have both the TS4 and the OEM charger plugged in concurrently, to separated thunderbolt 4 ports on my laptop?

Whether or not the wattage impacts performance will depend on the laptop itself. I believe on most Windows laptops, performance is not impact. What is more likely to happen is that the 98W charging will not be enough to sustain the computer, so the battery will slowly discharge even while plugged into the TS4. You can plug in both the OEM charger and the TS4. The laptop will accept charging from the OEM charger, and reject it from the TS4, but the TS4 will otherwise work as expected. This is a scenario provisioned for in Power Delivery protocol, which pretty much every modern device and charger utilizes to ensure the safe transmitting of power.

Mine runs fine, except for the sound. When I plug in my speakers directly in the Macbook Pro sound works fine, but in the TS4 it's mute. I. have tried all the settings I can think of. Any feedback on this?

I just recently bought the the TS4 from a friends suggestion hooked to a new MacBook M1 Pro 14 inch The CalDigit Docking Station Utility only shows a picture of the unit and the Quit option nothing else The audio out connected to my Bose speakers is not working either Wondering what may be wrong

Question. I need to know this before I purchase it. Is "Thunderbolt Dock Sleep Mode related issues (System Crash & Drives Disconnect) under macOS 12+" fixed? I need to use macOS 12 and upgrading to OS13 is not an option for me. Also, if I buy TS4 now, can it be used with m1 max mbp macOS12?

Newly purchased TS4s come with the latest firmware update that addresses unexpected wake from sleep behaviors on macOS. So you should be good to go. And yes, the TS4 will work the computer you are asking about.

Not natively. On a hardware level, M2 Max chips can support up to two external monitors out of a single Thunderbolt port. You can get around this with a technology called DisplayLink, which uses software to drive additional monitors. In order to do this on the TS4, you'll need to get a USB DisplayLink adapter and install the software/ drivers.

Yes, the TS4's Ethernet ports are fast enough it should be able to fully utilize your internet speeds. The 2.5 gigabit Ethernet is faster than pretty much any internet package you can get - it's made to be able to handle fast data transfers to devices like NASes and local servers.

Yes, you could do that. If you just want the extra DisplayPort, you could also get a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter and plug it into one of the TS4’s Thunderbolt ports.

You cannot connect two computers to the TS4 at once. The TS4 supports only a single host computer at a time.

The TS4 is rated to safely operate at up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, which is quite warm to the touch.

@@wangsusan6102 Is this wireless? if so, you might be running into a USB wireless interference issue. Basically, all USB ports emit a wireless signal that can interfere with other nearby wireless signals, such as connections for wireless peripherals. This normally isn't that noticeable, but with the close port density of USB ports on Thunderbolt docks, there's more chance to cause issue. The fix in this case would be to get a USB extension cable to physically move the wireless receiver away from the dock. !!! THIS DOES NOT WORK ON APPLE !!! Just received a new TS4. Ventura 13.1 2019 16in and 2021 16in M1 MBP using a DELL 49in display. My external drive mounted, but the Docking Station Utility doesn't see them nor unmount them. It does see the SD card.

I bought the TS4 for $400 and USB-C video doesn't work out of the box. I googled the issue and apparently you guys have been working on a fix for over 11 months. Your engineering team and product are a joke.

There must be some kind of miscommunication. USB-C video does work out of the box, but you have to plug into one of the two Thunderbolt 4 ports. I only delete comments when they are excessively mean spirited or malicious without any redeeming characteristics. Criticism and discussion is welcome here. Are you the same person from the single Reddit thread on this behavior from 10 months ago? One computer in that thread was running Linux, which is not a supported OS for our products, and the other was an M1 Pro, which had a software bug preventing monitors from working in some cases (this potentially affected every Thunderbolt dock). Follow the troubleshooting I laid out in that thread. In particular, try to update your monitor's firmware. This has been the solution for the vast majority of users experiencing this situation. If that's not an option and you need the monitor functional immediately, use a USB-C to HDMI or DP adapter to connect to your monitor instead, if possible. Beyond that, reach out to our support team. @@CalDigitHQI confirmed my monitor drivers are up to date. your chat support just told me that CalDigit is aware of certain monitors this device doesn't work with (MSI Optix being one of them). It is insane to me that this isn't on your website or product descriptions. You may think that USB-C works out of the box, but it simply doesn't. This is a 2 year old popular gaming monitor and the drivers are up to date. USB-C out works with my other devices.

This device is so overpriced! MSRP: $399.95 Wait did you just say "slower rate" for the new MacBook Pro.... WHY? Did they not implement this before they released it? Time already for the TS5 | Thunderbolt Station 5! Due to this good review discussing what the TS4 can do and not do, it is not a good choice. Look for something more up to date.
