8 Street SW Station (also called 8 Street Station or 8th Street Station) is one of the eight Downtown Calgary stations that service both the Red Line and Blue Line on 7 Avenue SW. It is one of the busiest downtown stations, sitting behind City Hall/Bow Valley College Station and Centre Street Station in terms of usage. Like the other two-line downtown stations, one of it's primary usages is as a transfer point to connect with the other line. 8 Street SW Station services southbound Red Line trains headed for Somerset-Bridlewood Station, and eastbound Blue Line trains headed for Saddletowne Station. 7 Street SW Station sits right across the street from the station which services northwestbound Red Line trains headed for Tuscany Station, and westbound Blue Line trains headed for 69 Street Station.
The station is located on 7 Avenue SW in Calgary's Downtown Commercial Core. It is located in between 7 Street SW and 8 Street SW with Century Gardens sitting directly south of it. Located nearby 8 Street SW Station across 8 Street SW from Century Gardens is a small plaza with a McDonald's and a Circle K - this plaza is infamous for drug-usage landing it the local nickname of "CrackMacs" (also because Circle K used to be called Mac's). The station is located apart of the Downtown TD Free Fare Zone, a section of CTrain in which a transit fare is not required to ride.
There is not too much to say about 8 Street SW Station, it has a simple yet very effective layout and does its job well. It isn't flashy like Tuscany or Victoria Park/Stampede stations, it doesn't have an interesting layout like Sunalta or Westbrook stations, and it isn't interesting for being rundown or sketchy like Southland or Franklin stations. Most of the downtown stations just kind of exist, but their minimalist designs help make them very efficient and easy to use.
