California Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team
The dream of amazing a crowd with fast & fancy horses, breathtaking maneuvers, and glamorous outfits became a reality in 1994 with the introduction of the California Cowgirls Equestrian Drill Team. In 2017 the Cowgirls became a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and with that transformation became the California Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team. The mission of the Cowgirls is to enjoy horsemanship with women who will participate on a drill team that has been established for the purpose of camaraderie, horsemanship and precision drill along with individual qualities of commitment, patience, flexibility, pride, imagination, and respect.
The California Cowgirls appear at rodeos, horse shows, parades and special events throughout California, and Nevada. Clad in eye-catching costumes, carrying rippling American flags, and riding American Quarter Horses and American Paint Horses in complex drill routines at top speed around the arena. These Cowgirls receive standing ovations at every performance. Among the list of accomplishments 10 time California State Champions, current Grand National Rodeo Champions, and the only team to go to the World Equestrian Games in 2010.
The California Cowgirls hail from Wilton, California, and the surrounding area southeast of Sacramento. The team is made up of real tried and true Cowgirls from all occupations. They have several mother daughter pairs, farmers, teachers, nurses, welders, and professional working cowgirls. The Cowgirls consider their role as a California Cowgirl a combination of play and hard work made easier with the love of western traditions, people, and horses.
