Cool video. Here’s some dove hunting facts I’ve amassed based on experience over the last 44 years of hunting dove during both early and late season openers. I’ve only missed one season. -Mourning dove prefer to eat off the ground in cut fields. -White wing dove prefer to eat off the trees and perch. -Having moving decoys in cut fields helps tremendously, because dove think it’s feeding time. Late season dove facts: -Late season, the dove prefer open fields more than orchards and trees from early season. -Dove are fatter in size and more mature. This can lead to misjudging distances. Also the dove tend to fly higher with late season. -Hunters may need to increase choke size construction by 1 for longer distant shooting. -Unlike September dove, inclement weather during late season tends to push them out of the area even more. -Late season dove move more during the early Morning hours. Decoys are most effective during early Morning hours. -If late season dove are ignoring your decoys, it’s time to walk open fields and jump shoot them. Jump shooting out of the fields greatly increases if you have 2-3 hunters driving them out. -Late season dove hunting requires more scouting. Once a spot is found, you need to be seated in the field before sunrise.
I agree 100% to everything you said. I was in a bad situation with a car and nowhere to go. This year will be different and I will have plenty of time to scout a bit more. Thanks for the great information and for watching.
The best places to hunt morning doves and Eurasian’s doves are on property that is surrounded by dirt and desert. Morning doves are ground feeders and white wings will feed on branches and trees.
I agree 100% The Eurasians like to be around town a bit more but if you can find a feedlot that will allow you to hunt on, you’re golden! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
