i shouldn't have done it, but i read it in your letter you said to a friend that you wish you were doing better please like & subscribe! comment suggestions!
*"two three four"* "one, two, three, four" -Summertime Sadness *"liquor off the top shelf"* "lying to herself cause her liquor's top shelf" -Carmen *"I'll throw a party"* "a little party never hurt no one" -Art Deco *"we'll dance till dawn"* "dancing till dawn, staying forever young" -Prom Song Gone Wrong *"you're scared to lose"* "Mr born-to-lose" -Honeymoon *"changing like the weather"* "i can't do nothing about his strange weather" -Shades of Cool *"you got the blues"* "still get jazz when I've got the blues" -Terrence Loves You *"you don't have to be stronger than you really are"* // *"go faster than your fastest pace"* "built to go fast, stay strong honey" -Never Let Me Go And of course, *"i'll catch you on the flipside"* "maybe on the flipside I could catch you again" -Flipside
kind of a stretch but *”i heard the war was over if you really choose”* “when the world was at war before, we just kept dancing” from her lust for life album, and i think there are other war references in it too.
"You don't ever have to be stronger than you really are" She put so much empathy and emotion in just the first sentence. I love it so much. This song is melancholic but also really beautiful
The song makes me cry. Few years down the road, I am revisiting this song "California" over a rainy day in Ottawa. I remember when I heard it the first time; I felt like Lana was my best friend comforting me. The song feels like a big warm hug to those suffering from depression in relationships. As a matter of fact, I was so inspired by it that I wrote and created a short film called "Tears of Oizys" that talks EXACTLY about what Lana is singing about in her song California. I really hope you guys could watch the short. It won so many awards. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nSC4ptU79-8.html
lana said it was her dream back then to be a writer but that didnt happen and it saddens her..but tbh listening to her songs is like reading a book. deep and poetic. beautifully written piece. 💕
@@vrunot that still doenst make much sense to me..why the word choose ? what do you have too choose? what war is she talking about the one in your hea dor the actual war?
@@saidaaripova2231 I'm pretty sure her ex was depressed and this song is saying "you'll be okay". She says she read a letter that he wrote to his friend where he said he wasn't doing too well and then she says "I heard the war was over if you really choose", which is saying that he is dealing with things and she wants to help him.
california is probably about lana's ex boyfriend barrie. "i shouldn've done it but i read it in a letter.." - they say that lana didn't break up with barrie in a best way (i think he found out that lana ended it over interview) "if you can go back to california just hit me up" - barrie is scotish, so he's not american... "your favorite liquor on a top shelf" - barrie had depression in a times when he was dating lana and he was drinking a lots in that time also black beauty, is this happiness and maybe even more songs are about lana's ex barrie. california is beautful, sad song. and the behind story behind california - it makes it even sadder.
The part, "Santa Ana moves you" is a small neighborhood in California. Her lover wasn't American, he was an immigrant and guess what? Santa Ana is mostly populated by immigrants. From the lover who saw their struggle in a foreign country and to her, who paid attention to all his feelings. If this is not empathy full of love I don't know what is.
California is directly referred in a lot of her songs including "Fuck It I Love You", "Freak", "How to Disappear", "Angels Forever, Forever Angels", and "Shades of Cool". Trying to be stronger is also a topic in "Venice Bitch". The phrase "I'll catch you on the flipside" is a direct reference to "Flipside". The lyric "Your favorite liquor off the top-shelf" is similar to "'Cause her liquor's top shelf" in "Carmen". Del Rey also counts "One, two, three, four" in "Summertime Sadness" and "Push Me Down". The phrase "I'll pick you up" also appears in "Happiness Is a Butterfly". Fast cars are also mentioned in "Video Games" and "Children of the Bad Revolution". War is also mentioned in "Ride", "Get Free" and "When The World Was At War Before We Kept Dancing". Dancing 'till dawn is also mentioned in "Prom Song (Gone Wrong)". Weather is also mentioned in "Shades Of Cool", "The Blackest Day" and "Heroin". Del Rey describing her partner as who is scared to lose alludes in "Honeymoon". A party is also mentioned in "Party Girl", "Art Deco", "Motel 6", "Thunder" and "Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass". Blues are mentioned in "Terrence Loves You", "Love" and "Tired Of Singing The Blues". Being strong and going fast are mentioned in "Never Let Me Go".
Hahaha count me in your club.I remember when Lana still wasn't as popular back in 2011ish I would join sites like omegle and put Lana as interests just to meet people that like her music, too.
I know right?! As a director, I agree with you. Lana is an encyclopedia of inspiration for me. Off her song California, I was able to write a story similar to what she and Barrie went through, I hope Lana del Rey fans would love it as much as I did: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nSC4ptU79-8.html
even tho i have no foreign ex-lover or whatever,, this song hits right to my feels. the unconditional love that urges a person to wait & make an effort for things that may never happen. beautiful, sad & sometimes scary yet you're still willing to gamble
I think it's the most beautiful song from Lana and NFR is her best album to date. But ultraviolence is the second best album for me. She is unique and she can do it better album after album. This is amazing, the lyrics, her composition, the productions, her Voice and all the differents chorus. One word Thank You for this masterpiece.

gosh, I love this album COMPLETELY, but this song...I can really feel it like she wrote it about me personally. this is the thing about her music that I love so much - each song resonates, like it was writtent for you and about you, just you.
Lana del rey is my favorite singer....and I dedicate this song to myself because I have been though many shitty situations and I was alone....but there are times that I'm tired of showing happy faces and being strong....I don't know if I have depression but I'm sure that I'm trying to love myself and the sadness and tiredness I feel all the time....this song is for me and for those moments I was alone and I wanted to comfort myself...this is the soundtrack for those moments....🌙

You don't ever have to be stronger than you really are When you're lying in my arms, baby You don't ever have to go faster than your fastest pace Or faster than my fastest cars I shouldn't have done it, but I read it in your letter You said to a friend that you wish you were doing better I wanted to reach out, but I never said a thing I shouldn't have done it, but I read it in your letter You said to a friend that you wish you were doing better I wanted to call you, but I didn't say a thing Two, three, four Oh, I'll pick you up If you come back to America, just hit me up 'Cause this is crazy love, I'll catch you on the flip side If you come back to California, you should just hit me up We'll do whatever you want, travel wherever how far We'll hit up all the old places We'll have a party, we'll dance 'til dawn I'll pick up all of your Vogues and all of your Rolling Stones Your favorite liquor off the top shelf I'll throw a party all night long You don't ever have to be stronger than you really are When you're lying in my arms, and, honey You don't ever have to act cooler than you think you should You're brighter than the brightest stars You're scared to win, scared to lose I've heard the war was over if you really choose The one in and around you You hate the heat, you got the blues Changing like the weather, oh, that's so like you The Santa Ana moves you (two, three, four) Oh, I'll pick you up If you come back to America, just hit me up 'Cause this is crazy love, I'll catch you on the flip side If you come back to California, you should just hit me up We'll do whatever you want, travel wherever how far We'll hit up all the old places We'll have a party, we'll dance 'til dawn I'll pick up all of your Vogues and all of your Rolling Stones Your favorite liquor off the top shelf I'll throw a party all night long Oh, I'll pick you up If you come back to America, just hit me up 'Cause this is crazy love, I'll catch you on the flip side If you come back to California, you should just hit me up
one of the biggest things i love about lana is that she embraces the happy go lucky, go a little crazy dont forget to make sweet memories, dont forget to learn as much as you can, be different, love cali, love everyone and just live your dream
“I shouldn’t have done it but I read it in your letter. You said to your friends that you wish you were doing better. I wanted to reach out but I never said a thing”😭😭😭😭 these lyrics hit so different
Instead of dedicating this song to other ppl I finally imagined lana singing this to me and hell if I didn't just mend and break my soul again into a million pieces within 5 minutes
I just don't understand how is it possible that she does not have a single piece that cannot be listened..... and I find this amazing! The melody, the lyrics are just simply amazing! :-) I am so grateful she exists :-)

When I first read the lyrics, I thought she was talking about comforting a depressed friend from her teen years. Now I think the song is addressed to her own teen self. It's the reflection of a woman in her mid thirties looking back on youth and realizing that she can never go back.
this song is very personal to me. my best friend of 2 years and now bf has to go back to his home country due to his families papers being denied. it’s such a horrible thing to go through. we are both teens so we have no control in the situation and it’s so sad we might never see each other again. i think i’ll miss him forever :(
you don’t want ur first relationship to feel like this song :( my bf has to move back to his home country and we might never see each other again. i understand what you mean though. lost lovers who could never be together despite their desire and love for each other. it’s a classic but it’s the most painful thing i’ve experienced.
0:34 i love how she says "baby" like a plead. like "please tell me your comfortable around me and like being around me and that you love me" idk just a thought
