I am glad there are lemon laws and decent people such as these to help with the legal processes. I am also glad that the 3 vehicle I've bought new never had a warranty claim. Camry, Tundra, 4Runner... Toyotas, god forbid.

I used to defend dealers in Lemon Law cases. Most of the time we passed the case on to the manufacturer. There were some real lemons (a Lincoln Mark VII comes to mind) but many cases were customer abuse, neglect or, more often, incompetent dealer mechanics who simply didn't know how to diagnose problems, particularly electrical. The dealership experience is very important to the perception of a car as a lemon.

I worked in California at a major dealership as a auto technician. We were told to confirm the customers complaint, to find the cause of the complaint and not to just throw parts at the vehicle that may fix it due to the lemon law

My dad bought a Ford Tempo in the early 90s that would shut off when putting it in gear. If you were able to get it to go, once in gear it was fine. That car was in the shop quite a bit, but we knew nothing about lemon laws at the time so he wound up selling for nothing.

I like Mark's point on lemon law cases per manufacturer. I have seen crazy statistics that make US car makers look awful. But the underlying numbers were of cars sold worldwide. Obviously, many countries have less consumer protection and US cars are small players there.

I purchased a new vehicle and the gasket (or however it’s spelled) blew and every time I took it In for repairs they would tell me it was normal that it smelled like burning, they kept telling me I was not used to a new car, well I hired an attorney Johnson Attorneys Group in California and he got them to buy my car back and pay off my loan. I then got a Lexus

The California stats don't surprise me. There is a video on RU-vid from GM I believe about the inroads imports had made in California, the rest of the West Coast and the East Coast by 1970. I believe that it was 40% for cars and over 50% for trucks. Sadly that did not move to the Midwest. Instead we were taught to hate imports. That is a poor business plan. As to attorney's I have received a lot of free advice from them. Not earth shattering but the kind that sets your mind at ease and points you in the right direction. I think the worst people to deal with are insurance claims adjusters and people buying real estate. People buying homes before 2008 and maybe they still that way are flakes. They have no concept of a contract. Where attorney's bother me is when they side with the flakes, that is until you present the phone number of your lawyer. I believe the building industry is as bad. You have to bring a change order pad every time you meet with the customer and make sure they sign it.

BMW and Mercedes make very nice cars, but I also think they're over-engineered to the point the tolerances are so low that they tend to have more problems.

I would’ve liked you guys to expanded more on the Ford DCTs & if these used vehicles could potentially be Lemon lawed due to Ford knowing that these transmissions were flawed in 2012 however continued to sell them. I would’ve also liked his opinions on the Class Action vs. Ford in CA.

Sooo I saw something interesting in the Illinois lemon law about how these provisions shall apply to vehicles 8,000 lb gvwr and less. What happens when your $50,000 + pick up truck is having issues? And it happens to be 8,500 gvwr.... or 10,000 etc. and it’s just the family truck not for commercial use.

Wow, Steve. Another excellent video. Great content. From a production point of view, excellent audio quality (I'm assuming you used multiple microphones?) and I really like the two-camera system, though it's probably a lot more work on your part to go back and do all the video switching back and forth in post-production. Very nice and professional.

I'm getting there. The room had some bad reflections but I was using two mics. I could also do a little better with the cameras but I'm dialing it in. The amount of work is not that bad once you get it all set up. I'm hoping to do more interviews in future.

@@stevelehto I second the comment on the great sound. Something counter-intuitive: you probably felt that you two were really close to each other, but the video would have been better if you had been even closer. You were on the fringe of the image and appeared to be leaning in to be seen.

I had a Lemon Law Lawyer tell me I couldn't make a claim on a motorcycle in California. I took my new bike into the dealer for a fuel gauge repair, they called me back two days later asking me if the bike was running when I brought it in. The dealer had it for 3 months trying to make it run after fixing the fuel sensor in the tank. That same bike was plagued with issues I would have never expected over the last 10 years of owning it. It has been frustrating dealing with the manufacturer and the dealer with problems that were known recalls on the model, just never on my VIN until 3 years after I paid to repair it out of my pocket. A few years ago they sent me a recall on the fuel pump that breaks and sprays fuel all over your leg and the hot engine. I asked if they would refund my cost on the repair that I paid for, of course they said no. I wish I could have lemon law'ed it when it was just a few months old.

Hey, Steve, I don't know for sure but believe a guy in NW Florida helped coin the term "lemon law" as describing new cars unfit to drive. This actually happened here in Fort Walton Beach: This guy had a new Chrysler which he took in for repair numerous times(prior to 1975 when the law was passed). I believe it was 1973 but am not certain. The dealer refused to take back the car and refused to keep fixing it. I don't know all of the fine details but do know that the guy painted lemons all over the car and LEGALLY parked it in a parking spot right in front of the dealer's show room on HWY 98. It sat there for months until they finally came to some kind of agreement and it was removed. This is researchable in the North West Florida Daily News as there was an article about it during that time period. I think it was the "Playground Daily News" at the time. My memory isn't as good as it used to be.

Exact same thing happened here in the Twin Cities, MN, many years ago. The car owner painted many dozen lemons all over the car (and they were very well-painted too), but he didn't park it in front of the dealership, he drove it to work every day. Much more exposure overall. It made the local news at the time, and the dealer or the manufacturer finally realized how much bad PR it was generating, so they gave him a replacement vehicle.

Some people in my family worked for a major car manufacturer. If an assembly line worker pointed out a problem - the boss said “Keep the line rolling”. It is cheaper to pay a few lawsuits than to correct a problem. This attitude keeps Lemon Law Lawyers in business. I hate to think what would happen if 60% of the current car drivers started to buy and fly airplanes.

I won a lemon law case in California after a year after I filed. I was told March 2020 that I had won my case GMC will let me knkw when to surrender my vehicle. Due to COVID pandemic we are in the end of July and still have not gotten a date to return the vehicle. I am still paying car payment and decided not to drive the car just in case the car gets damaged (crashed or anything that will make the manufacturer drive to take back the vehichle) How long will take before they have to take the vehicle back?

I have a current case against bmw right now and they use every stall delay their is. They are trying to compel arbitration when I never signed a arbitration agreement as I never serviced the vehicle with a purchasing dealer so don’t trust BMW. My case is a slam dunk and they are just playing the stall game.
