I understand, but the massive casinos are much more offensive than bells. They do much more harm, and we should focus on removing the millions of non native palm trees planted here as well. They really don't belong in California, with the exception of the Palm Springs/ 1000 palms region. The rest should be gone and replaced with California Oak and sycamores.
As a Mexican/American I see it as a shame to remove the bells. I mean in México we have architecture that dates back since the 1500’s. Over there there’s also a huge movement of removing a lot of shit that to me seems really a waste of time rather than something good. In this case I also see it as the same it’s a waste of time and it’s also erasing part of our culture, which shows that the mestizos & Españoles we’re here. The tribe member also try to compare this to the Confederate flag or to the situation that I assume he’s referencing to slavery in the south which truly isn’t the case here, you can’t compare the history in southwest United States compared to the rest of the country it’s stupid.
Its meaning to us as indigenous is different than the meaning to them. To us it reminds us of the atrocities committed, to them it reminds them of the power they had over us. Take them down like all symbols of power over another race. F them bells and f them churches. F the vatican fir sending black robes upon our people
Yeah but once society accepted the false narrative the confederate flag was “racist” it opened the door to everything else, The real issue is that we need to stop acting like the Indians were poor innocent victims. They were not, they actively resisted many efforts to impose civilization and order
Talk about wacky, San Diego's completely unhinged. Today my leftard city voted to redefine what a woman is. I'm so embarrassed. The idiocy is unbearable here.
Only middle passage descendants are allowed to complain (or destroy) about historical monuments. I see those bells as I do the civil war monuments : a sad chapter, but one that should never be forgotten. Take away those monuments and other visuals, and there is no longer a talking point. History cannot be served up all nice and sanitized. It didn't come down to us all squeaky clean...we need to know all the warts and scars that made this country what it is today.
@@omi_god I'm not offended by their presence at all. I'm Russian and Irish. Would be ironic if I was offended. Relatives of mine saw first hand what happens when you white wash history from one side
The Franciscans came in with NO ARMY, NO FORCE. They were welcomed, for the most part, by the native tribes. Thankfully, if the Franciscans had NOT come, the indigenous people would have ended up as either like the brutal Aztecs or slaves to the Aztecs. This is a HAPPY chapter in history. As you say, history cannot be served up all evil and brutish. God bless.
Good grief. That period of Spanish colonization and exploitation is long over. The US govt later went to war with Mexico and made a land grab that included most of the Southwest. Native peoples have been treated very badly by our government, but taking down landmarks isn't going to change history. We should learn and move forward.
@@ramenlover1727 I didn't say the missions should be destroyed. Nor do I think manzanar or Auschwitz should be destroyed. They are pieces of actual history. I don't think removing mission bell decorations around town is in the same ballpark at all. edit: this stuff should be exhibited, not celebrated, if that makes sense.
Welcome to 2022 where everyone one is butt hurt about history and thinks changing it instead of teaching it will make a difference . All I have to say to these people is stop worrying about history and get a life and make a future history for everyone.
@Harry Beez ^History isnt meant to be cute. Most historical events arent coated in sugary happy ending fairytales like you assume. History is HISTORY, period. If you don't like?? Too bad!🤷♂️ So how about you keep your comments and blue pills to yourself 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Casinos don't have anything to do with the Missions. Nobody "donates" to Casinos either. They go in and lose money gambling 😛. Casinos donate money ALL of the time ❣️
@@melviasheppard8466 "Casinos don't have anything to do with the Missions." You're missing the point. "Nobody "donates" to Casinos either. They go in and lose money gambling😛." Semantics. "Casinos donate money ALL of the time" To what, exactly? Show us the evidence.
as a native they mark the path of the natives the church took to follow, now as a catholic that loves my native heritage and still being catholic i must be aware of another faith following these paths to bring in there forced belief
They treated the Native Americans terribly. They made them change everything about them. They cut their hair off they made them wear different clothes. They wanted them to be American. I didn’t know any better in those days but it’s too bad it was brutal. They never should’ve been made to conform.
You've been taught a whitewashed version of history by our liberal education system. You need to WAKE UP. The native Americans didn't OWN all the land in North America any more than a bird owns a forest, or a fish owns an ocean. They didn't PAY for it. There were no property deeds. They didn’t give up anything of value to obtain it. The natives were nothing more than SQUATTERS. The bounty of the Earth was to be SHARED by all living creatures. Whitey just wanted to eat, but wherever whitey went, natives showed up and claimed that they owned everything - ALL the land, ALL the buffalo, ALL the deer, the ENTIRE lake with ALL the fish, etc. The selfish natives didn't want to share with whitey. The natives were savages. Nature’s way is survival of the fittest. People had to FIGHT for land back then, just like wild animals do today. Natives fought EACH OTHER for territory all the time, but it was only called “stealing” when whitey won. The savages constantly attacked white settlements and wouldn’t leave whitey alone. They tried their best to exterminate whitey. That’s right - GENOCIDE. They raided settlements and killed men, women AND children. Kidnapping and scalping white people alive and slowly strangling them or flaying them (look it up) were favorite activities of these subhuman A-holes. Whitey was superior to the natives in terms of technology and intelligence, so whitey won, just as nature intended. The native savages didn’t want to coexist with whitey, so whitey was forced to either kill them or to round them up and physically separate them, just like we separate criminal savages from civilized society today - by putting them in PRISON. It would have been much easier just to slit their throats than to go through the HUGE effort of escorting them to their new digs, but whitey was far TOO NICE and decent to kill them. This PROVES that all whitey wanted was to be left alone and to live in peace. Whitey didn’t want to kill anybody. The natives got what they DESERVED for refusing to share the bounty of the Earth and to live and let live. You won't learn the truth from a history book in school. It's all anti-White BS today.
thats life. they should have stopped warring with other tribes and faced the threat at hand. no other opressed popluation cries as much as the native americans do, even when the situations are comparable. whiny people who were taught to complain and fight change no matter how apparent the change is
False.
Personally I don't think going through the trouble of removing all of these bells is practical or warranted. Whether we like it or not, these markers are a reflection of our history and you can't just pretend like it never happened because it hurts your feelings. Maybe the bells can be accompanied by unique art pieces created by the tribes of each region the bells are found in, kind of like how public spaces have both nativity scenes and menorahs during the holidays? Instead of taking away we ought to add further context and deeper meaning.
So let's get rid of all other history, because it's upsets someone.they wete used for lots of things, like weddings, can we just stop, this is going to far.
Gotta wonder how many of the people commenting against this supported the other monuments being removed because those werent in their state. hmmmmmm...
If it is decided to take the bells down, don't. Just let people know it is okay to take them now. People used to steal them! Problem solved with minimal cost to taxpayers!
They should be replaced with native American art and we should start changing street names that are named after conquistadors to something Native American or chicano related.
How about replacing all the Spanish names because Spanish was the language of the conquistadores? Something tells me these same people would have a fit.
