Rugby world cup started in 1987 won by New Zealand. South Africa did not partake. In 1991 Australia won the world cup. Again South Africa did NOT partake. In 1995 the world cup was held in South Africa which South Africa won on first RWC entry. The rest you probably know.

In terms of "dominant" it's New Zealand as they have been the team everyone tries to beat and that wins the most matches in the recent era. However, South Africa is technically more successful as they have won the same amount of world Cup tournaments as New Zealand (3), but have played in less tournaments. The rugby heavies are traditionally from the Southern hemisphere - New Zealand, South Africa and Australia but that is changing with some of the Northern hemisphere teams becoming really good too.

When a try is scored "touch down" it is 5 points with a conversion kick to come which counts for 2 points so a converted try is 7 points. They can only pass the ball backwards if passed forward its a forward pass and ball goes to the opposition. Kicks forward may be done if the person chasing was behind you when you kicked the ball otherwise you have to run and chase the ball you kicked and put everyone in your team onsides by running forward past them. Just a little suggestion, it would be interesting to see the movie "Invictus" by Clint Eastwood, with Morgan Freedman playing the part of Mandela. Rugby was always a political matter, as SA learned the game while the Boer (farmer) nation (captured warriors) was incarcerated by England into concentration camps 1899-1902. And there they were taught the game by the English. In 1906 the first Springbok team went to England by boat, and on the way named the team De Springbokke, and from that time they won 27 out of 29 tests, and only 68 years later could England begin to win against the Springboks. Right up to the time that mr Mandela could bring the whole nation behind the Springboks and also in the process keep the name of the Springboks. So indeed there's big history behind rugby and cricket, I will say the best of English gifts to the world.

I don't know if it was mentioned before in this chat, but maybe try to watch the" South Africa vs Japan" game of RWC 2015. It will give you the ultimate worth for the statement "Don't Underestimate the little guy". As a South African, it was a bitter-sweet pill to swallow at the time.
