"It's Like That" was such a fire starter!!! Still hits till this day even though it didn't become a massive #1. Everything from the visuals, ensembles, vocals, and beats felt like she was so uninhibited and free - for the first time in a while. I love that you immediately caught the "dem chickens is ash and I'm lotion" line haha
After the previous album not doing that great, apparently many people said her career was over as she hadn't really had any proper success since Rainbow album in 1999. So from 2000 to 2005 people were writing her off. Then she came back with this album in 2005 with this song to start and then went on from there. This album ended up being the best selling since Daydream in 1995 in the US and best selling since Music Box in 1993 in the UK. She did however have success with her 2003 duet with Busta "I know What you Want" which was also fantastic.
She had been cruising on the same genre (though very successfully) since her debut and released this LP which was what I think showed growth (finally). 😅

If you pay attention Mariah carry whole 2005 album was the greatest comeback in history her visuals versus voice lyrics all was number one and if u pay close attention some songs in the album are linked like we belong together and its like that same people same guy she look at the end with pay attention she is skilled
It's always so funny how music works. In my side of the world I could not avoid this song if I tried (It was that BIG). I know you could recommend some songs that I have never heard in my life and it was super huge in your area. It's so important to explore and get exposed to things outside your immediate circle. Yes this was considered as her "Comeback" album. Charmbracelet, was more of a personal healing album (as a way to purge her soul of the weight and burden of all her struggles) with the Label issues, Glitter issues, reconnecting with her Dad & him passing away soon after, a Broken heart from another relationship ( Mexican Singer ,Luis Miguel). The Emancipation was an accurate representation of where she was in her life by this juncture. She's in her mid 30s , divorced, having gone thru personal breakups /Health Issues and professional ordeals (all in the public eye) . This was her Being and Emoting that Self Confidence & Sincere Joy in being Greatful for What's Truly important in life & Enjoying Life , All of it , Good & Bad. Finally this Was , if not mistaken, The highest selling album of that year. Yet as always she still loses at the Grammy's for album of the year. In her career so far, She has a total of 34 nominations and has won 5 ( 2 for her Debut album & 3 for this album)
