In 1972, I was walking down the street in Boulder, Colorado and heard music coming from the open door of a club called Tulagi. The guy at the door let me in, and it was Poco rehearsing. Amazing afternoon!
RIP Rusty Young! My first ever concert was to see POCO in 1973 at the Felt Forum in Madison Square Garden! I've been a fan of POCO ever since! I actually had a great conversation with him on a music cruise! What a nice guy he was!!
Not so sure about that. I never really paid too much attention to Poco (not that I don't think they're a good band), and I know Rock 'n' Roll just fine - I even know how to spell it correctly. 😉
Ive seen SOuther Hillman Furay and Poco. He told the truth about Richie and Poco. Electrifying. From the first note to the last medley which usually ended with "Pickin up the Pieces", he had the people in the palm of his hand, and such a nice guy. They smiled the whole time and it made you smile. There wweere no scowls or profiling. They werent the Rolling STones, They didnt smash guitars like the. Who. They respected the music and the people who were their fans. I will always consider the night in 1070 at Va Tech when I was with my first wife, who was also my HS sweetheart. We lived in Petersburg VA and Tech is in Blacksburg VA. Its not a short ride. But the ride hime was nothing. Those 4 hours flew by .
I was there for Richie's first rock band performance. What was the band? I gues they called it "The Lois Northeim Five" and my brother Ron played guitar in it in the early 50s! Lois was their guitar teacher in Springfield, Ohio at Morelli's Music store.........how old does that make me? 78 of course. Many fine memories of those kids: Richie, Ron Weller, Bill Black, Janet Chase and Roger Stevens. I saw and talked to Richie several years ago at the Ram's Head in Annapolis, MD. A real trip down memory lane and thanks again Richie for the signed copy of your book for Ron. He is still alive and well in Springfield.
I first saw Poco in Long Beach, Ca in 1970, I think. It was Poco, James Cotton Blues Band, and Chicago Transit Authority. Amazing concert. Fast forward to about 84 or 85, and Poco played at the Sunset Inn in Fairbanks, Alaska, where I was living at the time. Wonderful show, and they were getting ready on the stage when I got there. I asked if they were going to play Rose of Cimarron, and Rusty said "you bet!" I talked to him later, on the phone, for about 40 minutes. What an amazing talented and nice man.
I MET THEM IN LAS VEGAS A FEW YEARS BACK. I WAS TALKING TO RUSTY & I TOLD HIM WHAT I DID, MENTIONED RANDY MEISNER, HE ASKED ME MY NAME & HELD MY HAND. HE GOT EMOTIONAL. MAY THEM BOTH RIP
One of the catchiest songs ever written. This song stuck with me ever since I was an extremely young child and I always come back to it even into my mid 30's. Everything about this song is literally perfect. Actually I take that back, I wish it was remixed and remastered so the mix was louder so I could crank all the way up to 11. That is literally the only fault I can find with it, its not loud enough.
And now that Richie is retired from pastoring the Calvary Chapel on Boulder, CO, he has time to play again. He has been on the new series Laurel Canyon, about the lsye 60s early 70s music scene in So Cal.
I love Richie Fury since the first album of Buffalo Springfield!! In my mind he is and was the master link to any band success excluding the Eagle!!! Richie makes my heart stop because it gets so full of love!!
Randy was only in the band for a year. He left during the recording of the first album in 1968. He was a great singer for sure, but Timothy B. Schmit and George Grantham created 99% of the iconic Poco high harmonies.
Call it love I want you guys to know it brings back many memories and if you asked me one of the best damn songs ever written, you killed it guys rock on
Kind of surprised to hear the RFB do this song. Richie, due to his faith, refused to sing on this song with Poco. Notice that he does not sing...at all...here.
Yes, you are correct. It was the video for the song that Richie had issues with and, as I recall, was led to believe they would go a different direction with that video. When they didn't, he said he wouldn't sing it live. At least, that is the way I recall hearing it. I didn't mean to criticize or start anything, just expressing my thoughts that I was surprised that the RFB did this song at Richie's 70th.
