This was one game I have the fondest memories of. I first got this game, thinking that it's COD 2. I previously played that on my cousin's PC and liked it. When I got BRO on the PS2, I was surprised with how different it was. Nevertheless, this was one game that I'll always replay. I'll always remember scenes of the game, and the deaths of two favorite squad mates...
This game, CoD 3, MoH European Assault, Frontlines and Rising Sun, Spiderman 1 and 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 all for the PS2 were quite literally my entire childhood. It’s a shame; games nowadays look and sound so great but they have so much less content and soul to them than a lot of these older classics.
This game is great. I especially liked that when you fight against french soldiers, they have french guns like MAS 38 and MAS 1936. And same with Italians (Carcano rifle or Breda 30 machine gun). You don't see these guns in videogames very often.
Played the hell out of this when I was a kid, Great memories with this game. Gave me a new perspective on war and taught me respect for those who fought for us. I remember early morning's taking the beach on Omaha and late nights in the snow lvls , fighting the Germans and their tanks. That was when I did not have a care in the world. Great video as always!
On original hardware you can get a glitch to occur in the ball turret section allowing you to shoot down infinite stukas and bombers. There's a little iron cross tally marker that will cover the whole screen. Me and my little brother used to spend entire afternoons playing COD BRO thank you Gaming Pastime
A wonderful review of a big favorite of mine, you covered it quite well! Just beat it o my modded original Xbox not long ago, as it's in my Top 3 favorite WW2 "COD" games!
Love your reviews man and I love that you cover a lot of older game. If you're able to find the time I would love to see a review on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I don't know if Star Wars/RPG's are up your alley but it's definitely one of the older classics. A game that everybody should play.
The Liberators mission was one of my favorites but it did have a bug where the mission wouldnt progress after defending your bomber so you would be stuck fighting off enemy planes and you also couldn't get shot down or die either, i encountered this problem a couple of times on GameCube
I played both, because this game was the one that Game Informer gave the big story. They only included a tiny blurb about the xbox 360 and PC version. Funny in retrospect. Nonetheless, this is a very good game.
What I didn't like about this one was no music during the gameplay. It works in Medal of Honor and the other CoDs so not having it here is my only gripe about a solid if by the numbers WWII shooter.
This was my first Cod game and I personally still love it and I even enjoyed it more than Cod 2 or 3. It took until Cod 4 for a Cod game to surpass Big Red One for me.
I hope one day they will port big red one,cod 3 and finest hour,i always wanted to play them but never could,i dont have them on my ps2 even if i do i wouldnt know to play shooter game on controller
When I was younger, I preferred Finest Hour over this game. Since I'm older now, I totally see this as the better game out of the two. The story is more focused, the characters are memorable, and even the controls are better. The movement in Finest Hour was sluggish. Of course, I don't hate that game. Still pop it in sometimes and play through the entire campaign. The same with this as well as Call Of Duty 2 and 3.
Do you think you'd ever review CoD 5 on PS2? I feel like the game is an evolution of Big Red One since obviously they couldn't port cod 5 to the last gen consoles. Edit: Actually I just looked at the game again, as it had been some time, and realized it is a unholy mash up of CoD 3 and CoD World at War.
