Man... That echo from the shot took me back 15 years plating MOH AA at my uncle's PC. Now I've grown to appreciate that, for the time, that was actually very good sound design. Iconic.
I remember how aiming down The sights was a huuuge thing Back then, My mind was blown when i first saw it in CoD or might Have Been european assault, i Dont remember anymore
Don’t forget the huge MoH vs CoD debate. MoH at least added the ability to melee with weapons. I think the first game to actually add it was Rising Sun.
@@Dusterlog I play the cod 1 but I prefer the allied assault because it's very nostalgic I don't care if cod guns sounds better Moh allied assault came out first in 2002 and cod 1 came 2003 idk who's the original but I think cod just copied Moh. in terms of popularity the cod wins
Oh, that's M1 Garand sound of MoHAA - canonical, most lovely sound of this gun in all games. I loved its sound from MoH so much that I used it in most mods for this weapon in games that allowed it.
I hate every single war game except MOHAA. MOHAA in all war-fps shooter's is like a Mona Lisa in art. I'm amused by all kinds of comparisons like: which game has better weapons, which has nicer graphics, etc. That doesn't matter at all with a title as big as MOHAA. The quintessence of the greatness of this game is its unique atmosphere, amazing soundtrack and the feeling of loneliness on the battlefield, of being constantly behind the enemy's back/subversion and constant threat. this pleasure of sneaking into military complexes. This has never been done by any other war shooter, nor has it been done since.
It’s easy to forget how much of an improvement Call of Duty was. Most of the animations (the StG 44 does not fire from the open bolt like an MP40, it is gas operated) are correct to the actual weapons and tend to vary depending on your weapon state; if you’re shooting a Thompson and change mags early, the bolt stays open during the reload because it’s an open bolt direct blowback gun. It’s typical to look down on CoD now, rightly or wrongly, but back then it was really ahead of its time.
So ahead of its time that the animators thought the "mag" in "mag release" stood for magnets holding the magazines in place, thus allowing the soldier to just yank them out without pressing anything. The reload animations in Allied Assault are much better (and more accurate) for this simple reason. As an aside, the bolt on the Thompson should stay open on both partial and empty reloads as its magazine has a bolt hold-open.
The comment I've been seeking... Also, Cod 2 was a giant innovation which made it one of the best games, even today. After Cod2, however, Activision stopped focusing on sounds which started a grave loss for itself..
heave asss sound , didn't arnold use it in the movie comado and in terminator ? i have a memory of him holding the belt tha feeds the bar bullets , or was it another movie ?
I remember playing MoH:AA on a PC at Best Buy in the when I was about 10. Before that, I had only experienced Doom. I thought that the graphics looked real. That springfield sound is so timeless.
for people who played it maybe lol but I think pac man dying and the pong ball sound are a little more well known among other things lmao mario coins? the halo assault rifle? cmon now u narcissistic maniacs
It's interesting to know that MOHAA developers, 2015 inc., ended up founding Infinity Ward and making COD. Therefore, think of mohaa as a blueprint for what Cod was going to be
fact: medal of honor frontline (console release excluded on may 29, 2002 on ps2, xbox gc) is based on medal of honor allied assualt release on pc on january 19, 2022
I think the M1 Garand sounds from MOH were used in Battlefield 1942. Might be wrong, but i played BF1942 way too much growing up and so many of the sounds are practically burned into my brain
damn these CoD sounds trigger the best LAN Party memories!! i loved that game back then. especially United Offensive, the Map Foy, fighting over that church! ordering Pizza and eventually seeing the sun rise up.. a im glad i was there!
MOHAA gave each gun a very special feeling. The animation and sound are somewhat artistic. COD is not bad at all but, compared to MOHAA, it just feels like every gun model, animation and sound were crudely designed by amateurs.
Funny how with the kar98, in COD, even the stripper clip is loaded. The animations look as if the entire clip is just dropped in. Also the kar98 in Mohaa doesnt have any rear sight. Also, Mohaa had WAY better sounds
IMO the sounds in COD1 sound better in terms of actually sounding like guns. MOH’s sounds are way more iconic for sure (with the exception of maybe COD 1’s MG42) but I think COD gets it a bit better in the realism category.
My preferences: Colt - CoD Walther/Luger - CoD Springfield - MoH M1 Garand - MoH KAR98K- MoH Kar98K sniper - MoH (though how it sounds different is lol) Thompson - MoH MP40 - MoH BAR - CoD StG44 - MoH M2 Nade - CoD Stielhandgranate - CoD Panzerfaust/shreck - CoD Bazooka - CoD MoH is clearly exaggerated/altered but the reload sounds are satisfying. Especially the springfield. CoD definitely sounds 'muddy'. When it tries to sound crisp, it kinda fails at it.
MOHAA definitely had better weapon sounds. It was so visceral. A minor detail but I also love the ammo counter being actual bullets on your screen, rather than numbers. That said, COD 1 was a very good game. Pity it went so downhill after COD 3
Both are great as for me! I remember how I watched my uncle played CoD and MOH, and I thought graphics were so damn realistic! Yet call of duty at least allow to punch enemies by all guns, meanwhile in MoH only Spearhead allowed to do by almost ALL guns (meanwhile the original one only in a pistol)
You should do a full comparison of both CoD and CoD:UO's weapons with MOHAA, MOHAA Spearhead, and MOHAA Breakthrough because those expansion packs add even more weapons and would allow a proper and full comparison. Case in point Call of Duty has the Lee Enfield, Mosin Nagant, PPSH, etc where as the base game of MOHAA does not, but Spearhead adds those weapons. A vice versa example would be that MOHAA has the M1 Bazooka and Panzershrek, and CoD:UO adds those weapons.
does anyone know the libraries of which the audio comes from? I know some of Call of Duty's audio comes from the Dynamic Range CDs 1 & 2 library, but I haven't been able to find many of the rest (Thompson, Springfield, etc.), and I don't know where any of the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault sounds come from.
The gun sounds for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault are much more dynamic. Each weapon had its own character, tone and particularity. Heck, even the reloading sound effects have rhythm and some musicality. You also feel like the sound of each shot traveled across the in-game environment and maps. MOH:AA was clearly designed with the intent to be a cinematic, theatrical and educational experience, whereas most gun sounds in COD 1 reflect the quality standard of most typical shooter games that came out during that time (overly compressed, short, overblown/explosive gunshots). Both games are timeless classics, but MOH:AA definitely takes the cake in terms of immersion and sound quality. What 2015 has accomplished is remarkable for a 2002 release.
And that's the reason why I'll always love Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Not to mention all German Dialogues. If MoHAA existed on Steam, I would now probably have around 2000 hrs 😂
For bolt action rifles, I prefer MoHAA over Cod 1. There's something strange about the latter's cycling sound effects that made me feel off for some reason.
@@SH00T_TH3PUMPthat, and the sound effects itself is weird. It has the weird "pitching up" effect when you close the bolt that you'll never ever find in any other games even as shitty as Cod ww2 and Vanguard go. Like use real life Mauser (k98, Springfield), Lee-Enfield, Mosin bolt cycling sound as basis, and compare it to Cod 1's. Its kinda weird how no one in the development thought its off. Thankfully ther are mods which changed it to better sfx though.
My suspicion is that, CoD has (way)smaller production/development budget than MoHAA. And for perspective, please take into mind what and where CoD was at THAT time; A startup game from a startup(but experienced) dev team, where 'AAA hollywood-tier, blockbuster title' were barely a part in the overall gaming zeitgeist. There were big games. But overall, games back then weren't even, in ANY way, considered to be anywhere near the glamour and prestige of Hollywood back then...crazy to think back about today. Anyway, alot of the weapon fire and foleys are very stock-sound-ish. Even by making comparisons for the soldier models; MoHAA has more variety and detail, compared to CoD where there's just, like, six german variants, then two variants for each of the three allied soldier. Looking at the character models in the multiplayer options in MoHAA is an engrossing enough distraction for me as a kid back then.
I thoroughly enjoy both games. But that Springfield sound in MoH: AA though lol... Would love to be able to play MoH: AA again (I am able to play CoD 1 through Steam) but not sure where or how to get it, doubt its playable on Windows 11 :/
Yup found it and downloaded it, and it played just fine on 11, only think I noticed on AA was there were these black lines like I was inside of a cube or something, didn't affect the gameplay though, was just weird. Maybe it has something to do with the resolution or something like that
@@OneKnight1234 Yeah I think that's a quirk W the Revival Edition Additionally there's also the Community Launcher for Allied Assault I think that might be a better pick esp to launch the expansion packs
CoD has better weapon model fidelity. MoHAA has better overall sound direction. Anyway, for some 'fun' behind the scenes tidbit; Infinity Ward, well, the crew of Infinity Ward from the first CoD up to Modern Warfare 2, where mainly comprised of devs that made MoHAA, with IW founders being the lead designers of that game. After MW2 and some studio/publisher bickering, those same crew left IW and Activision, returned to EA, and founded Respawn Entertainment, notable for making the Titanfall games and Apex Legends.
@@crisalcantara7671 Cate Archer from No One Lives Forever. My pic is a screencap from the first mission of the second game NOLF2, one of my top fave FPS game.
i heard that sometimes developers do this so you can see the shell jumping out of the weapon cause it looks cool instead of it jumping from offscreen where it's suposed to be ejected from , but the first thing we think of is that developers don't know how guns work , that could be posible for newbies but not experinced guys , also i heard that the reason why allot of weapons don't look the or work the same is cause of copyright , go figure , so there , cause i was wondering what everyone else was too , like just chek on youtube how the gun works and animated it but i learned this just a few days ago 😁😁, still cool when they do it right .
Ja ću samo da ubacim random fact, mada verovatno ga i znaš COD1 i MOHAA generalno MOH i COD dođu braća, pošto je tim ljudi koji je programirao COD pre toga pravio MOH igrice
But now, COD their company are fuck their own opportunity up again, just like E.A does on same path, even their former friend/enemy MOH series was gone already, no rival at mostly, just look at From World War II 2017 to Modern Warfare rewrite shit, it’s fucked up already.
As someone whos plays and loves both, cod 1 is better. Most of the weapons were really well done, not to say mohaa has hideous weapon models but it definitely has that early 2000s low detail thing going on.
so the developers from MOHAA left and went gto create cod , so they did not copy they just used there old sklls and improved , i don't know if they went to work on WAW though , would make dense is some did .
We can disagree about which is better game , but we all agree that EA is shit publisher , killing iconic franchise like Medal of honor ، Battlefield & Black ( PS2)
