Many people went to work on 9/11 thinking it was just another day. Some never came home that night. The following day was a sobering reminder to mourn our losses, hug our loved ones, and regroup as a nation. Now, 20 years later, we give honor to those we lost and continue to count our blessings as Americans bonded by infinite patriotism. No matter how difficult the odds, the strength of this country is now and always will be too great to measure.

My young teen son was home sick that day and the events of that heinous day set his life’s path. He is quickly climbing the ranks of 1 of the national police services with the aim of focusing on national security and he lives the mantra: “Not on my watch.” This response from him is not uncommon among his age peers and many others. May nothing remotely similar ever happen on their or anyone else’s watch.

It is 2023. The first-hand stories of these courageous, caring individuals demonstrates the highest level of humanity - that they were willing to sacrifice their lives that others would be saved. May God bless them with peace in their hearts and minds as 9/11 approaches yet again.

Maybe they were “just doing their job,” but it takes uncommon courage to willingly put yourself in danger to try and save another person. To me, they are all heroes- any person who did what they could in the chaos and fear- those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those that made it out alive. Never forget 🇺🇸

I think everyone needs to see this.. Like he said ""we were ONE NATION"" this is when we were all at our saddest, confused, hurt, lost and angry but WE ALL stood together red, blue, purple, yellow it didn't matter. People need to see this. We need to come back together TOGETHER

Everyone across the country wanted to do something, anything to help or show support. Many friends enlisted because of this, I was a few weeks shy of 18 when it happened. We have a whole new generation plagued by PTSD because they were willing to go over there and fight those responsible. But we were united in our pain, and our resilience to stand back up and fight for each other

@@jennh2096 everyone did come together and wanted to help, and it was such a bittersweet time, but your friends who enlisted to go fight, were fighting the wrong people. i keep coming back to these lately as a reminder of what we all went through then. It was my generations pearl harbor. the death that occurred and the horrors that followed were awful but it brought us together as a nation for once. it's so frustrating to see where we are right now as a country.the hate we have for each other right now. the sacrifices ppl made that day and after for what? more violent and more divided then ever, detached and no longer a community.

Truth - in 2023, yes. But something will happen again as it always does, and we will come together again. I don't know if we'll ultimately survive. I don't think that we will. But Jesus Christ will return, and those who have believed on His Name will be saved.

They say most people remember where they were on this day and time. I'm from Birkenhead Wirral UK 🇬🇧, 36 at the time and finished early shift so straight to my identical twin sister's home to visit as usual and see the little ones. Tv on and incomprehensible what we were seeing, guessing the children didn't know why we were so upset and crying. Hard to explain how in awe i am for all of you amazing people, and to the the real people and children who died that day. I still watch historical events as they should never be forgotten. Thank you for sharing, sending best wishes to all.

I had flown from the Pacific NW to the Midwest because I'd been working there and was coming back to ship my things up to live there permanently. I was at someone's home and was up early for tea and some breakfast. I stepped into the living room to catch a glimpse of the morning news. As I was standing there, the news flashed the first tower which had just been hit. I could hardly believe it. No one knew what happened. Some thought it was a bomb. How could a plane fly right into the tower?! Did the pilot have a heart attack? I said, "Hey! Come see this... the WTC is on fire." Was it someone who had veered off-course somehow? As I was standing there, I literally watched the second plane fly right into the second tower. "OMG" and shock. My jaw dropped open. I yelled to the person there, "Quick! You've got to come see this! A plane just literally flew into the WTC! What is happening?!" It was dark day... followed by an uprising of massive unity. Shocking but solidifying. Tragic but strengthening. It is now 2023. We need to come together again.

Comprehension of the courage, the dedication to humanity, not just duty, is difficult. Words are also difficult. I watched TV, in horror, as I was getting ready for work that morning, 8:30, I won't ever forget. I had a little flag I grabbed as I walked out the door. I worked in a large hospital in Houston's medical center. As I was walking down the halls, people were stopping and saluting the little flag. I commend the brave souls climbing those stairs to their deaths and all those responders who were willing to risk their wn life to rescue their brothers.

I will never forget what happened today 20 years ago and the horror is witnessed seeing the 2nd plane strike the tower. I'm from the UK and on 9/11 I was visiting my sister who lives about ten miles from the WTC.There are about twenty houses in her street-by 11/11 almost every one had taken in a fire fighter who had travelled from all over the United States to help. Some of their colleagues had been accommodated in school gymnasiums and sports centres but those who stayed with my sister and her neighbours were treated like royalty and deservedly so.People would drive them to the pile where they'd work until their bosses forced them to stop-a phone call day or night and they'd be collected and brought back where they'd sleep until they were taken back again. When they were forced to take a little more time off, after the first week, they'd congregate together in one house, just talking. There was now a whole community of firefighters in one street. They could keep in touch with their families, have decent food and a comfortable place to sleep, not that they would have noticed where they slept.they were so tired. Some stayed for two months and their families came to visit, their fares paid for by the neighbours who had bought them clothes and everything they needed for a prolonged stay-most of the men hadn't really packed, just set off for New York as fast as possible. When they eventually did start to reluctantly go home, they were driven thereThe neighbours weren't heros, not like everyone more closely involved, but they did their bit in a small way to help out.

I can't speak for those who were directly affected nor those who were there on that day or anything I was too young to understand when it occurred but from the stories I've seen it affected them in different ways even among the survivors some have ptsd from those attacks and can't handle anything related to the event or don't wanna think about it I believe some were so severely affected they took their own lives but for the rest of them they knew that utter despair was part of the goal to demoralize Americans and bring them down but nobody wanted to show that type of defeat to the attackers they knew they had to not let the event break them and that resilience was shared across others and the stories they shared further strengthened their resolve to stay strong plus given the fact that these brave souls rushed into those buildings knowing it was gonna result in their deaths gave many Americans the courage to stand up and fight against terrorists they basically had the mentality that everyone helped everyone out and they can also come and help to. They still were quite upset though they wanted revenge so bad they even wanted those nations to be blown clean off the map and the president basically sent the army into Afghanistan though they ended up screwing that up but a few years after the event people mellowed out and decided to remember the day

There's jobs, careers and callings. Working in the emergency services is a calling. It takes a special someone to do it. I couldn't because I'm a coward. And hopeless under pressure. What these men and women did to help in the face of danger, is beyond me. By that I mean I'm in awe of them and can't fathome doing what they did. I don't think people see them as the emergency services anymore but superheroes instead. I want to say a massive thank you from the world. But that doesn't seem like enough. Instead I'll say we'll NEVER forget what you did to keep us safe and to save us. Rest in Peace ladies and gentlemen of the New York emergency services who didn't make it out of this. And to those who did, we're blessed to have you here with us.

All the services, were the face of humanity that day and for years to come, at the cost of their own lives and their families, it certainly was in their blood to put the public, over their own lives, if only all people had that inside them, the world would truly be a beautiful place ❤x

I love watching videos about the NYPD during 9/11. I've watched so many of the FDNY ones and really wanted to hear more of some officers perspectives.

Since the day, I have never understood why the towers collapsed. The structure seemed like it was standing strong enough after they were struck. Yet it crumbled so fast. So many lives lost that day. It was such a heartbreaking day.

As a "9/11 family member" I have to say there is nothing more impressive than September 12. Like the gentleman said, we were one nation… United, shoulder to shoulder. No one cared if you were from a red state or blue state I don't know what it's going to take for us to get back there, but for the sake of our country we need to.
