Just picked these up in 2021 and I’m telling you now they will compete still today. They feel amazing and sound fantastic. Love them!

These irons can still compete with most out there today! I've had them bout 6 years now and they are just as good now as they were back then!

Tested these today at Callaway Custom Fitting session. Really impressed, good feel, flight, forgiveness with PX 95 6.0 shafts.

I tried these irons today at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento, California. I have been playing the older Callaway Razr X irons for the last year, and they have been good clubs. Yet I am looking for something a little more. I have had a go with these clubs at a few different stores, and today was able to hit it on a true driving range. They just feel right to me. The ball jumps off the face with little vibration, almost forged feeling. I was able to control the flight of the ball much better. And I was able to hit a 4 iron...OK. A club that has always given me trouble, and a hybrid in my bag. Yet I get the feeling with some practice, I could hit this 4 with no problem. I believe a set of these will be coming to my golf bag in the coming weeks. Thanks for the review.

Bought these off the rack with Nippon steels two weeks ago. First two rounds with them, I was constantly overshooting the greens, even when I was adjusting for the extra distance. They're nice to hit though and much more forgiving than my MP59s even when you're off the sweet spot a bit.

Good point I think my point is simple, understand your distance and where it is coming from.

Did my custom fit today and it came down to these x-hot pros and the AP1's. the callaways had slightly better numbers then he put in a Pxi shaft and wow. Felt so buttery smooth. The x hots won me over instantly and can't wait to get them next week.

I went for custom fit today with an open mind, went through ping, titleist, my preferred Mizuno's and Callaway. Chose the Callaway pro with project X stiff and loved the flight, strong lofts suit me too as I have a natural high launch angle.

Mark, I tried these irons out today and as a 18 handicap, I actually liked them a lot. I actually strike my irons very well, just tend to get a little crazy with my driver, hence the 18 handicap! I hit a demo 6 iron in a simulator, and I was within 5 yards on all of my hits. Very nice look and great feel. I play the x22's right now, which I really enjoy. These irons looked a little less "chunky," so I can see why a better player would prefer this. Good sticks if you ask me!

I was very sceptical about these irons due to the jacked up lofts but after testing a set on course for the last couple of days I am absolutely blown away by the performance. Believe the hype

I got the project x shafts and they are the same length as the TM Rac LT's that they were replacing. I don't know if maybe the KBS shaft is longer, but 8 irons TM to XhotPro is the exact same length. After hitting them for a month now and have some rounds played, I really enjoy these irons, being a high ball hitter the stronger loft helps me keep it lower

@nikothewalru I had the same concern but after comparing a set of these to my ping i15 irons I can confirm that these actually go higher, so cranking lofts works if the clubs are engineered to fly

Mark, appreciate your reviews. You don't think C-Tpaers feel any different than any other shaft? They are a very polarizing shaft. Some folks love, some dislike. I personally think they are very different than Px which is in turn very diff than DG.

i never understood the dulling of the sound on cavity irons, if im buying a cavity iron i want it sounding hot and fiery off the face, maybe it's bit more understandable on a club like this which is aimed at lower handicappers but with the full cavities give me the explosive sound, that's what im buying it for

Wondering Mark if you have any recommendations for driver/irons that you recommend for a taller player? I know people reckon that you don't necessarily need taller clubs, but my swing suits taller clubs, and I am wondering if there are any that you think are more suitable to being taller than others, particularly interested in your thoughts on a driver. I've been to a Callaway fitting day and spoken to the pro at my club, we're looking at X Hot pro irons at the moment, but undecided about a driver/woods.

I hate the fact these manufacturers are adding length and cranking lofts. I'm only short and don't want longer clubs. Any chance if a list of clubs not cranked for higher handicappers?

"...actually it probably is my 5 iron" LOL - outstanding! Great review, Mark. Not sure what the idea is behind jacking up lofts on "players" irons. I don't need my 7 iron to go as far as my 6 iron - I've already got one.

The new ball is lower spin because the newer equipment spins more. Look at drivers. The spin on the newer 460cc drivers is crazy high. Same with newer irons. They spin the ball so much that they had to change the groove rule. The ball is a lower spinning ball because they can use clubhead design to do the work. It means you don't have to be as precise with impact.
@AleksiLPhoto
@AleksiLPhoto 11 лет назад
New balls are made to spin LESS if anything, which gives you some distance but not height and not holding and stopping power. An old Balata spun way more than the new balls do.

i20's are better but you should be a very low handicapper to really appreciate the i20's. I'm not a low handicapper and have to be realistic, so I bought the Callaway X Hot Pro irons. But I'm striving to get a lower handicap and then the i20's will be on my wish list.

The way everybody's cranking lofts more & more upright , in a couple of years a 9-iron will be capable of 230 yards but no good to fire into a well-bunkered green from 120 yards . Sets of irons will then have to consist of 7 - P.W plus five or six specialty wedges . So much for technology ! What say you Mark ?

These are much better than the RocketBladz Tour irons. The RBZ Tours did not meet my expectations after all the marketing hype. Actually, I was disappointed - it didn't have that crisp feel at impact that you would normally expect from a Tour level iron.

I decided to buy a set of Mizuno JPX 825 Forged irons but my clubfitter recommended that I try the Callaway X Hot Pro irons with the Project X 95 Flighted regular flex iron which I tried out and immediately fell for them. The irons were suited to my swing and were slightly better than the Mizuno (I think that the shafts made the difference). I ordered the 3-9 irons but I think that I should have left the 3 iron out as it's really a 2 iron loft. I ordered 1 deg less lie angle.

@AleksiLPhoto 11 лет назад
Sure, it's partially the ball, but it's also the clubs. Try a new ball with an old blade. Then try even a new blade.
@AleksiLPhoto
@AleksiLPhoto 11 лет назад
And this is my point. Old ball and old blade vs new ball and new "players cavity." There is just no comparison. The new stuff outdoes the old stuff by miles. Which is why it's not the same as just comparing lofts. The sweetspots have gotten bigger and moved away from the heel, the clubs help launch more than ever, and they still retain spin. Shaft tech, etc. It's way more complex than just blaming it on lofts. Tech has made the difference.
@GENODELMAROATL

@AleksiLPhoto
@AleksiLPhoto 11 лет назад
The fact is, relying on the quality of the strike to get optimal performance isn't ideal. There are too many variables. If you can make a club that can help with less premium contact, THAT is the ideal. Sure, someone who always hits the sweetspot may not benefit a ton from new gear, but someone who doesn't benefits greatly. The point is...we have higher launching, adequately spinning clubs with the same, or less loft on them as before. So I don't see the downfall.
@b1uelobster18
@b1uelobster18 11 лет назад
I think what is needed is completely removing the conventional iron number designations. No more 3,4,5 iron etc. just the degree of loft on the iron, 20, 23, 26, etc. simple and easier for people to know what to expect with new clubs. Another alternative is the USGA and R&A can publish standards on iron length/loft.

Who cares about the lofts? It's so cliche to go on about them on these comment threads. If lofts were a problem, and technology wasn't improving, there is no way we'd be able to get the ball high enough and spinning enough. We are getting stronger lofts with higher launch and still adequate spin rates. Why are people so mad about that? Hit a 20 year old 5i. Now hit a new 5i. Distance aside, which one was easier to launch and use? That's the question.
