Calligraphy is a design course by Prof. R. K. Joshi, Mr. Achyut Palav, Prof. Santosh Kshirsagar and Others at IDC IIT Bombay. The course on calligraphy as conceived by Professor R. K. Joshi would take you through the essential steps of learning calligraphy. This video is the demonstration of Calligraphy Devanagari Letters by Prof. Santosh Kshirsagar, a student of Professor R. K. Joshi and now a faculty member at the Sir J J Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, India. The above session shows the basic ideas & rules for writing Devanagari letters. Here, a few examples of Devanagari letters are given with an explanation. Devanagari letters can be divided into groups and then practised group-wise.

Very nice! That was really helpful! It's interesting to me that the Devanagari angle is actually the opposite of most scripts I'm used to. It seems like it's easier for me as a left-handed guy to write this script than say Latin or Persian script. :)

thanks for such a nice video. But which tool do you use and where can I get. can I make it at home???? Pls answer I am really interested and want to do this

You can make a bamboo stylus and cut the tip at an angle or leave straight and hold at an angle, or better, use a goose feather, or feather from a large bird. Or, use a simple felt calligraphy pen. When the calligraphy pen runs out of ink, you can still use the tip by dipping it in ink. You can buy Japanese calligraphy ink (Sumi drawing ink) or make your own with a Chinese ink stick.

The Devanagari writing - please correct tendency to let the brush making the top bar - maatra - always tilt downwards as you write! Otherwise a good demo.
