Psalm 107 uses the sailors who go down to the sea in ships as an illustration of how our Heavenly Father can bring us through the rough waters of life. There are many lessons we can learn from the sea and sailing. Navigation with a compass that must be set properly on true north or else the way is lost by degrees of error. Setting sails properly for the conditions of wind and sea. It's important to have a Captain that knows the ship, the sea and the conditions. The stars used for navigation must be timed properly for accurate fixes on position for the navigation. All of these, and more, are great lessons we can take with us into our daily lives. The author of this Psalm seems to have had some experience with ships and the sea and used those experiences to reassure us that our Heavenly Father will always keep charge over us and bring us into our desired haven.
