Quick note for people, I will be doing a video quite soon that will focus on the books, which ones you will need for what factions and why. Seems kinda important.... ~Macca
I really don't get the hate for mah boy Arhiman, I have almost no interest in 30k and yet I bough this guy multiple times from people getting rid of the HQ of the box just to paint him. I love his pose so much I'm turning one into a full blown Malignant Plaguecaster! A really commanding and iconic pose. A hell to convert, as is often the case with monopose plastics.
Watching this video now after FW's weird product line decisions, really shows how moving so many HH weapon and customisation items OOP could put so many people off making the jump into HH. Before you could say to yourself, "You know what, that's not a terrible idea, I can make any legion I want with some nice upgrade parts from FW, and a good part of the work will be with plastic rather than resin". Now you look at it and say, "Well, at least I now know about recasters or aftermarket stores to buy the OOP weapon and legion upgrades from"
I've been into 30k-40k and WH Fantasy for almost 6 years now round about, discovered the universes late in the game unfortunately. But I've only ever been a Lorehammer nerd and never played tabletop, once I looked into 40k tabletop and discovered that completely absurd paywall to even start an army not including the amount of game books constantly releasing and their prices I decided to remain a Lorehammer nerd lmao. But if I were to ever play it would be without a doubt Horus Heresy, reading through the HH series now and absolutely love it to death regardless it's flaws. I have every intention on collecting the HH FW Black books as well.....in paperback....
Thanks for this. I started 40K with the original 40K Rogue Tradrer rulebook, but have been away from the game for some time, since about 5th edition. I missed the Horus heresy release but liked the era from original Adeptus Titanicus and Epic scale. So I was interested in getting into HH and 30K. Greetings from Katoomba NSW!
Prospero for me. I really don't like the Mk.IV armour though, so I'm biased. I also converted the Geigor model into a completely different guy. He ended up with a Bolt Pistol and a Power Axe. Doesn't really matter now anyway, and with a different backpack and head.
Calth. It was a little disappointing when I realised the dreadnought couldn’t be posed but the cataphractii and MK4 armor made it worth it. Plan on getting prospero for the marines and sisters of silence then selling the named characters.
"I dubbed this the Contempt or Rigor Mortis, which is a little play on words there" ... I'm not sure if you intended your delivery to sound like Korg from Thor Ragnarok (except the accent) but keep doing it, it's really funny.
I Just Bought Calth BoxSet Today & Paid $300 After all was said & done. I Am making a single army out the entire boxset which is alot cheaper than buying individual from ForgeWorld
Looking to start Death Guard, which generally favored MK III armour as it added to their already legendary toughness...And Cataphractii terminator armour for the same reasons... TT_TT Well, of to eBay to try and find those parts of both games!!!
Well its 120€ in Germany so you basicly pay for the Marines in the Boxes the rest is free. Because one squad is 40€. I already have BAC for my IVth when i start Salamanders i go for 2 Times BoP because they used MKIII. The rest i sell and buy my HQs of FW. The Austrailian prices are rediculos.
Man, I have to say I feel bad for you man. That shit is so expensive. I remember when BaC was still up, and it was like... 150... That's some serious bullshit they're pulling with you guys
I love this video ^-^ well done! I love the mk3 armor but its a good point that mk4 would be good for starters or people not confident in painting :) (plus i agree the dreadnought looks kinda off)
So sad they arent produced anymore. I would Like to start 30k but without These Sets its Just way to expensive for me, hopefully they will bring them Back but we all know they wont :(
Try some of the Iron Hands or Space Wolves specialist pads, or if you are fine with aftermarket, go on Shapeways website and type "Heresy" into the search bar and take a look through what comes up :)
For 40k, Calth wins ,30 tactical ( in the best armour Mark imo ) 5 terminators, 2 characters and a dreadnought are a perfect way to expand your army, hell, it is almost enough for a full on Batallion by it self. You just need an extra HQ.
Calth the as all the people are generic and usable in the same army (the thousand sons marines are very thousand sonsey) prospero is just for the lore and isn’t a very effective starter set unless you plan to be creating a space wolves, thousand sons, custodes and sisters of silence army all at once
I agree. Also, the Calth box has the Contemptor, but Prospero has 5 big Custodes and 5 big Sisters of Silence. How the fuck are they the same price when one clearly has WAY more?
I am in a dilemma to pick a legion. I'm not sure If I want to pick the ultramarines or the alpha legion. Do you have any experience with these legions that you could share with me please? Bear in mind I do want to get the betrayal at calth set.
Well, yes, I have vast experience with both. You would need a Calth box for both armies anyway, so that's no problem there. The Ultramarines are more friendly for those new to the game, as they get a lot of flat bonuses, the Alpha Legion are a bit ore picky and need a bit more knowledge to wield. I will cover Ultramarines in the next 4 weeks or so as a legion, and I will cover the Alphas in... 10 if not more weeks.
Owww! By tbe way i heard u don't like the hobby? 🤭😁🤣🤣😂🤣 That Stuff When I Heard It Had Me Rolling! Ur Australian 🇦🇺 & U Play Horus Heresy If that alone don't say U FREAKING LOVE IT! Than Nothing Else Does
Is OK to mix armour types in the narrative of 30k did they have forces in both mk3 and 4 I guess there would have been a change over period? mainly looking at night lords.
I don't want to be that guy but "You're going to struggle to convert Ahriman" well I did manage it, wasn't that hard and i'm pleased with the results, again not trying to be that guy just saying it's possible and can look good
2 points, 1; remember it's the inexperienced/unconfident hobbyist I'm talking about here. 2; I mean more converting it to a completely different legion is hard as the Thousand Sons are so unique in style compared to the other legions, you have to change so much of the mini, it just isn't worthit.
Gotta disagree with you on the storm shield thing. Why would forgeworld make a tartaros specific set if we weren't supposed to use them. I also like the idea that IF and SM developed different designs independently of each other. I wouldn't mind them being 4++ though.
Ozymandias1989 I haven’t seen a Tartarus set. They make a Cataphractii set and the only Tartarus set that has one is the 40k upgrade which came out with the original Tartarus over a year before the Heresy game and which was intended for use in 40k.... In other words I disagree with your disagreement hahaha
Prospero. Only Mk III (&II) marines look distinctly different from the 40k era. Calth's Mk IV marines look too similiar to MK VII from 40k + they got ugly helmets. I got 3 boxes of Prospero and zero boxes of Calth. Nothing beats Mk III unmistakable 30k aesthetic.
also you can sell the custodes and to a lesser extent sisters on ebay for a good price as there is a constant demand for custards. you can also convert the sisters and run them as hightech militia or something (necromunda? full sisters ZM force?)
MKIII looks way cooler. they look like knights with amazing shoulder pads and trim. MKIV looks like bubbly trash. and cataphractii over tartaros. "for the plastic within" PLASTIC WITHIN! PLASTIC WITHOUT!
The only time it really comes into play is 'void hardened', where breachers are in a slightly better but more restrictive armour. Sadly, it doesn't HAVE to be MKIII, and sadly it isn't just a standard thing for infantry in MKIII which you can pay points for.
Project Biology The differences between the different marine armours are too subtle to represent on a D6 based large scale tabletop wargame. If you are interested in canon rules based differences the Deathwatch expansion for the Dark Heresy RPG covers the detailed characteristics of the various marks of Astartes power armour... it’s really well written and well worth a look.
Also allows you to create the worlds worst marines, who have total geneseed failure. Their eyes are malfunctioning so they're virtually blind. They have damaged ears, so they have horrible balance. Their Capsulan node is damaged, so they randomly fall asleep. It's hilarious, someone legitimately did this.
