The Metrolink cars were bought by Caltrain and sent up north to extend their Bombardier five car fleets to the current six car fleets. They haven't repainted them, but they did add a Caltrain logo onto each coach.
They are all in a pool operated by Amtrak and are used throughout California if needed. I've seen CalTrain cars on Metrolink trains in Los Angeles and Metrolink cars on Coaster trains in San Diego. They will repaint them if they are permanently placed in a certain fleet but are often just relocated and renumbered.
Nice video. My sister went to Santa Clare university from 2010 to 2015. Ended up taking a Caltrain to a Giants game from Santa Clara. It's a nice ride.
Wonderful video - hope you do more of these! Were you driving a CalTrain MP36PH-3C or something like a F40PH-2 (as seen at 9:30 in video), or were you in the control car at the opposite end of the locomotive? From the horn, I'd guess the control car. Thanks in advance for your reply! Dog
This is really great. How did you get such a clear picture? Was the cab car recently washed (really well) or did you stick a camera on the exterior of the train somehow?
1. They both have f40s and gallery cars 2. The door closing chime is the same except caltrain has it in a girls voice 3. The bell from the inside is the exact same as metra
Great video! How could you get such a stable and clear view?! I live in Sunnyvale and tried to take a similar video, but the shaking was just awful and the window always dirty (at least on the regular services, not the Baby Bullet). Finally I can add a US cab ride to my curated collection at cabrides.net that has the same quality as European and Japanese cab rides! Keep them coming!
just a question for you,at 1:11:00 signal is displaying "approach limited" yellow over flashing green, where is the next signal displaying diverging limited, red over flashing green, i don't see it. cheers
Lol the more Trains Sim World we play u never know some 9 year old or 12 year old can hijack a train btw stop underestimating us!!!!!!!!!!! We should be allowe to drive cars trains and planes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know why they always slow down at the area near 1:09:47? The track seems straight to me but I can never figure out why they always slow to a crawl then speed back up.
If you look off into the distance at that point, we are coming up on a signal restriction. Keep in mind this was recorded during rush hour, so it is likely the fact that we have caught up to the local train in front of us, and are being held until it departs 22nd street station.
That annoying bell would drive me up the wall crazy. Do they make you listen to that every day? I feel bad for you. Your videos are fine by the way, I just hate that bell clanging all the time.
I really miss riding a train,a bus a taxi a trike.the only mode of transportation since I arrived here in the state is a car, which is for me kinda boring.MTR in hongkong is so nice Train in Japan is nicer .Taiwan too
The camera lens in partial telephoto gives the illusion of going slow. For those complaining on the apparent slowness just go the settings and set playback speed to 2X. The quality of this video taking is quite good. Nice and steady.
Great Video. But the poor people living near the tracks. The sound of the train is fine, but that constant obnoxious horn use is ridiculous. Are Americans not smart enough to not cross a closed crossing? They need a horn aswell?
first saw this on "You Tube". it was headed 'Baby Bullet Train'. That Bullet Train leads to thinking this will be a fast service. compared to the UK where I'm from it is not fast, and makes me wonder that if this is fast then how slow were the services before??
Well the emphasis is on "Baby." It's just an express train, "Baby Bullet" is mainly a branding thing from Caltrain. Like most US trains outside of the Northeast Corridor it's limited to 79 mph. Once they install positive train control and electrification it will be faster.
Ian Ma you better hope they do lmfao... not trying to die here XD; although if I did survive that type of collision, that would make a great video lololol
Just curious how do those triple stacked signals work, when you went by them, saw mostly that the top one was green, and the two other ones were red, so what excatley does that mean?????
Really late response, but each signal covers one track. Each green signal means that the track straight ahead is clear, while the crossovers and side tracks were switched the other way or blocked.
+Fan Railer One more question do you have any idea about the height of the camera ( the distance between you camera and the track lines)? sorry to bother you by my detailed questions.
There are cab cars used by Amtrak on the Capital Corridor and the San Joaquins where the engineer sits in a cubicle on the right side of the car, passengers can sit on the left side, I have done it many times. Sometimes during the summer months, the engineer will block off the seats on the left side a leave the cubicle door open because of excessive heat buildup in the little cubicle, a practice that is extremely dangerous in my opinion with all the whacko's we have running around these days.
Just how fast is this thing going ? Granny could beat this slow mode bullet train in her wheelchair lol . It's either power or bad tracks or both lol . Nice and clear tho ....
the old unit they are going to use the old diesel unit on the future Dumbartion extension when they get the dumbartion rail bridge replace, and they will use the diesel unit on the Gilroy rout as well.
