Holy cow those things accelerate fast. I'd imagine this fact alone could shave several minutes off the end-to-end trip time compared to the diesel trains.
Yep, the new schedule already accounts for significant time savings from the faster, near-instantaneous acceleration! Can't wait for these to be in service!
@@OliversElevators Local trains from SJ to SF are going to take 75 minutes, down from 100, with the fastest express trains taking 59 minutes, down slightly from 66. Additionally, there's planned to be a 20% increase in total stops per hour on the network by increasing the number of stops on each train's route, and there's planned to be half-hourly service on weekends instead of hourly.
@@SevenandFortythat’s amazing. I guess it makes sense that the greater time savings are for the local trains because there’s more stop-and-go that benefits from faster acceleration and deceleration than the express runs, but shaving off a whole 25 minutes from end-to-end is truly incredible. Makes you wonder why more commuter rail agencies aren’t switching to EMUs.
Lol 😂 you still have to build the entire cantonary system You still have to put a substations every x amount of miles. That will cost millions so it's good that it's limited to certain areas.
