I personnally do not care what a persons sexual orientation is. I care about things like kindess and friendship, trust. That is what defines a person to me.
Some people say this 'i don't care or it doesn't matter to me' and that it IMO dismissive. It DOES matter to most gay people a whole lot it is a core part of their being that alot of people DO still get persecuted for even if it is subtle.
I know this statement means well, but his being gay is so much of who he is. His experiences as a gay person have guided his decisions which include being a singer.

Why would his sexuality come in to play at all ? This comment implies that if you were not a fan of his music,then you would consider it an issue. This man opens his soul and reveals how he was ostracized throughout his life for living in his own skin . Perhaps dig a little deeper and fully self evaluate and think before speaking out and potentially adding to the problem.
I'm 63 going on 64. I have never been loved because I am asexual. I don't even know what it feels like to be loved and I have never felt the emotion, I sure would like to know the feeling of it 😟.

My brother came out and said he was gay back in 2005. It wasn't the reaction everyone wanted to hear or see. It's still planted in my head that day...that night. My older brother was beaten as soon as he said he was. I had to pull my mom away from him and I was terrified. I sheltered my older brother, I literally put my body on top of him so my mom would stop. He renounced his place as a family member and changed his whole name...and nobody stopped him but me. He went on with it...later in years...I came out to my family. I figured it was obvious because the way I am...the way I talk and walk. In my culture, there are people called two-spirited. You have the spirit of a man and a woman you have the actions and thoughts as one. I stood my ground even though I was terrified...but my family finally accepted it. My brother is happily engaged with his other half far away from home. Just this past month, we lost our uncle, and he understood everything, told everyone to love each other. Our family came back together and we all got to meet my brother's fiance. I'm sorry, you're coming out story had me in tears and thought I share mine. Thank you.

So sorry you had to go through that. Everybody deserves the opportunity to be themselves. I was lucky. When I finally came out, my mother said she'd always known I was gay. My dad wouldn't discuss the matter for awhile, but then began cutting out Dear Abby columns from the paper about gay people, then mailing them to me. I guess he figured that if Abby was OK with me being gay, he could accept it, too.
Your music is amazing! My youngest son is gay and we love him unconditionally. It does not matter if you are gay or straight in this world we are all equal. When you friends cannot accept this they are not you true friends. Keep your head and be proud! Proud of you!

Actually, having a gay son, I knew the moment I saw him that he was probably gay. Having said that, who cares? He is an amazing talent and, I think, a truly gentle soul.
Is it not comical that parents somehow can tell their child will be different? Okay, let me not generalize before I get beheaded for some may be clueless or for those whom not fit the stereotype but for those who know and accept their children, parents and those held dearly, makes me happy and glad that acceptance and relationships can overcome the dreaded abandonment.

@Calum Scott. I really felt the same way. As a child just being told "you should have crushes on females" I always made friends with guys. And when guys had relationships, I really just tried to fake being happy in relationships with females. However, I never had one person walk away from me when i said I was gay. That must be heartbreaking. My mom's reaction actually was very similar. She did not care too much about it and treated me the same way as I always was. You have an amazing voice. Calum's story has just made me realise that I have the best friends I could ask for. When I came out to my friends their reactions and support were so amazing and I thank them so much for that. However I still can't get up the nerve to come out to my parents - I'm so scared that they might reject me. Plus my dad has diabetes and I'm terrified that the shock could have an adverse effect on his health - I could never forgive myself if that happened.
To my family and friends I am a cold rugged and old fashion type of guy. So when my son told me he was gay it seemed like everybody expected me to go ballistic on him. He even told me over the phone long distance, to be honest it hurt me more that he thought he had to put distance between us. All I said to him was I know and you are still my son and I love you no matter what anybody thinks. I also reassured him that I would break anybody that f**** with him because of who he is. I am also proud I heard it from him instead of gossip. And I made sure my whole family knows where I stand and they stand by me. They promise me they would look out for him when I am gone.

I'm Argentine, there are no subtitles, but watching and listening to Calum, my heart tells me everything. I identify a lot with his videos when he was little, with my inner emotionality and his!
Calum came out during BGT, it was a brave act he had ever done for himself. As coming out to everyone is not an easy thing to do because some are afraid that the closest people by their side will leave, not acceptance. Hiding myself in the closet is tiring, it hurts so much that i have to lie about who am really are. Scared that people will hate and judge. Has been always asking myself, why can't i be normal? who am i? is it okay to be like this? should i change? All of these questions are tremendously painful to hear. My friend said, "some people rather live in the world of lies than being sad their whole life" pathetic isn't?
True, I had to hide myself as long as I can, because I knew that my parent could not withstand the truth. I knew I shouldn't be so selfish to tell them the truth and let them to bear all the criticism by relatives and friends when that's not their fault. Sometimes, things are better to stay hidden. Sometimes, it's better to not take down the mask. For almost 8 years, the mask that I'm holding on everyday had shaped so well that no one had ever doubt about my sexual orientation. I had to do this, because I'm so scared that anyone that know the truth will pass it to my family. I once doubted, should I feel shame about it, but I think that's not important anymore, as the act I made had become the true me in others people eye. Coming out or stay in the closet, no real answer, just think about ur own situation. No right or wrong, just which one u choose to sacrifice.

If people don't understand who you are, they are not normal. Stop and don't think about what people say. She's lesbian but didn't came out, and let the girl she loves go, because she's afraid of what her parents and friends would think about her.Then the love of her life, was diagnosed with lukemia, and refuses for theraphy, and just waited for her life to end because she thought my bestfriend didn't love her. My friend.decided to live in lies, and I can tell you with all my heart, my soul pouring out, its not worth it, lies won't make you happy. Instead it will keep you from possbilities and happiness you might deserve.

I am 50 years old and out. It took me almost 40 years to come out and I felt immense relief afterwards. My sister was the first to know, its just easier with a sister. My two brothers found out eventually and all of them accepted it. My dad passed away when I was fourteen so I never told him. My mom knew, but could not accept it, saying to other people I was sick. She passed away three years ago without us ever speaking of it, even though she lived with me for years. When I heard the song No Matter What, my heart broke, as I would have loved to hear those words from her.

Im 55 years old. I came out as gay when i was 20. I lost my mother when i was 9 years old. And my father died when i was 17. I wish my mother could live abit longer so i could tell her. I wish the world could have been more accepting. I haven't even told my parents that I am gay but I well aware that they both knew. My siblings knew because I brought a boyfriend home and my parents didn't even complain about it hence I am already 28 and a teacher. They've only wished me to be better. I've asked my sister once about "why doesn't father asked me to get married (to a woman)" and she said "oh father told us to let you do what you wanted to do he is scared of losing a son" because a second cousin of mine committed suicide after finding out his boyfriend is getting married to a woman. That's what made him think that way. I am just glad my parents were very open-minded regardless of not being too exposed to such circumstances.

Green Rainbow It’s not really the gay part that makes people like him more. It’s the fact that he’s comfortable enough to share that when he doesn’t have to. Any singer or celebrity who shares something personal opens up people’s hearts more to them.
2020 and I just found him on facebook and came to youtube to hear his songs, I clicked on this one thinking it was a song and as I hear him speak I like him very much. Even though its been 2 years since this video came out, he have a great courage of doing this video and I am very proud of him for doing this. He has an amazing talent.
He has been public about his sexual orientation long before this video. This was released in support of National Coming Out Day in the UK in 2018. Listen to the lyrics he uses in "Dancing..." even as early as his 2015 audition.
Last year I saw a girl who was friends with my daughter severalyearsago. We had a lovely conversation and when I asked her if she was married and had any children she said no. As the conversation continued it was apparent that she was gay, which I have no issues with. She made a wonderful statement and I'd like to share it as it really says it all about love, she simply said you you can't help who you fall in love with. I smiled and wished her love and happiness for her future 💗

You just don't get it. It does matter to him that he's gay. Gay people shouldn't have to hide their sexuality just because you are uncomfortable with it and think that "it doesn't matter." If you don't like him being out and gay, don't listen to his music. Problem solved.
