This song could be applicable to a lot of situations my son was bi-polar and manic depressive with continual thoughts of suicide. I loved him even through the mental illness. His father had passed away from a freak parachuting accident when my son Jesse was 23 years old. My son tried to committ suicide after finding out his father had passed. It was a love/hate relationship between the two. Fast forward 20 years my son made a 2nd attempt and nearly bled out and a 3rd attempt 6 months later. Jesse finally succeeded July 4th, 2024.He was an amazing son and made the whole family laugh we had are own Jim Carey to entertain us. I loved him no matter what through all the mental illness and his Heavenly Father loved him most of all and thank you Jesus that you called him home and relieved his tormented soul and that l will see him one day. Ok. So the 1st verse is exactly what i went through as a young kid. Then so i came out to my parents. But in comparison to this song, my mom pushed me away. It hurts a lot when the people you expect to be there for you, rejects you at your most vulnerable time. Years passed and she still doesnt acknowledge my sexuality and still forced to supress my real self... but thanks to her, i learned what unconditional love is. I still love her even if she rejects my true self.
