Amazing! Brilliant sound. I just went from whistle to flute and it's proving to be quite, hm, interesting. ;) This is an inspiration not to stop trying though.
Since you guys are really great at "jigging up" Swedish folk music, might I suggest that you take a look at Jan Johansson (if you don't already know of him)? He was a Swedish composer and jazz pianist who died far to young in a car crash back in -68. His album "Jazz på svenska" ("Jazz in Swedish", it's on Spotify) contains many wonderful, soft jazz versions of traditional Swedish folk tunes. I would love to hear a Calum/Heikki spin on his versions of e.g. "Visa från Utanmyra" or Emigrantvisan" 😊
Nice tone out of the Rudall & Carte. I play a 100 yr old Haynes wooden flute and really like it for Celtic music. Is that one pitched at 435 HZ or the older 415 HZ they used to use?
Truly amazing, one of my absolute favourites! I actually prefer your polskas to our Swedish versions. I could listen to this all night, I think I might do just that! 😊
Is that a Rubber band on the key on the foot joint? Glad to see its not only me who does this. I took your advice and went for the Millyard-Molem R&R Calum, no regrets.
yan pedro de paula santana The original of this flute is no longer in my hands, but you can find a very fine modern version of this flute here; www.justflutes.com/peter-worrell-simple-system-rc-flute-productC120340.html
You guys rock! I play the tin whistle , and i'm thinking of starting with the flute, but in my country i can only find classical transversal flutes. One question, Heikki is using DADGAD tuning? Keep up the amazing work!
Hi Connor, the first is a composition from Olov Johansson, and the 2nd is a traditional tune ( I dont know the name sorry), from Helsingland in Sweden. We play these a bit fast and with far more of a jig rhythm than they are played as polskas in Sweden. "Polska-jigs"! Cheers, Calum
Olov Johansson plays in Vasen, and yes they recorded this tune! He writes brilliant melodies :) Glad you like the version! The 2nd tune, I dont have a name for. Something like 'polska from Helsingland' !
Calum Stewart Having that satisfied feeling that comes with nailing down the antecents of a tune - I'm thinking about recording Vilse in Betlandet from Vasen when i finally get into the studio to record, think it would be tasty on low whistle or flute.
