Well rowed Cam, particularly in those conditions. The improvements over the past 12 months have been incredible, but your dedication and heart is a constant. I doubt anyone got a bigger cheer all week than when you saluted the Yamsquad. Looking forward to seeing the next chapter.

Congratulations Cam, great to hear you’re positive perspective of what you’ve achieved. It’s been a bit of an education watching what’s been going on at Henley this week. Looking at the tiny technical considerations which make such a big difference. Love the fact you gave the Yamsquad a wave, very classy. Looking forward to the next Chapter in your progression. 👏👏👏

Hi Cam, armchair coach here. What a great showing at HRR and what a great attitute. With the significant improvements in technique over the last year this will bear you well for the coming seasons. With that, though, you are now beyond what I can offer. I will follow but refrain from coaching comments. I hope my observations have been insightful (equipment?) and with respect. A few last closing thoughts: think like a lightweight - every excess pound will slow you down (get lean). Think about shortening your stroke at the front end (watch all the leading 1x rowers). That piece of furniture you have for a seat - may I suggest you replace it with a Carl Douglas carbon seat. I've had one for 27 years and used on each of the three boats I've had in that time. If you're looking for a summer adventure, how about the Canadian Henley?
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan Год назад
Thanks for that! Will continue to go with the guidance of my coach. Regarding shortening front of stroke because others have I think that's a negative way to approach my technique. And after trying out a lot of different seats, the "furniture" worked the best for me. Everyone is different after all! Lastly, travelling to Canada for Can Henley would be a mighty trek taking me out for a long time vs either some solid training here or racing against some local olympians. Thanks for the suggestions though!

When steering accuracy is so important, why do you not wear one of those little rear-view (ie front-view) mirrors that attach to the peak of a cap or sun visor? My wife bought me one, and you keep the view of the bow ball in line with your destination so you are only off track for a stroke or two.

You have such a positive outlook on your achievements and on the good side of your race! As an athlete, doing many competition and stacking up against other teams all the time, it can get very easy to get lost in the self-comparison to other athletes or other teams. You do so well on seeing what you did well, and what you need to improve, but you explain it in a positive way. I have certainly learned from you for the past year that I have been watching your videos. Thank you for being this great influence in the rowing sport!

Open question to anyone that knows: On the concept two rower, does the drag factor reduce as you fatigue? I predominantly row 5km for general fitness I have no ambitions of becoming a great rower, I find when I set the drag to 125 it’s much harder for me to hit my times compared to when the drag is 140 or so? Thanks in advance.
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan Год назад
Most likely due to technique and actually getting used to one drag factor or the other. You should be able to do very similar times regardless of drag

Hey there Cameron. I need one question answered because it is driving me crazy. I kinda let my wife row on the machine next to me and as I looked at her display I had to stop. She is making 10 to 11m with one stroke while only pulling around 150-160W. I am making 8 to 9m (on average) while pulling some 250 to 320W. Considering I am also bigger, with a longer reach, I cannot explain this. Best regards.
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan Год назад
I don't really know what the question is. Are you asking me why your wife is going farther per stroke? Without seeing what is happening I can only guess that there is a difference in stroke rate ore technique or both!
@headkickko609
@headkickko609 Год назад
@@CameronBuchan Exactly. How am I pulling more watts, have longer reach, but she is going farther per stroke. I think her stroke rate is lower (some 25spm), mine is around 30 to 33. It is true that she will maintain that tempo for no more than 500-1000m, whereas I can maintain 30spm for 2000m, averaging some 210W. But I am still nowhere near the 7 min. mark. It is driving me crazy 🤣.
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan Год назад
@@headkickko609 yes, sounds like a combination of technique and stroke rate. I'm sure if you do 300 watts at the same rate as your wife doing 150 you'll cover more metres per stroke
@headkickko609
@headkickko609 Год назад
@@CameronBuchan will try today. You are the best Cameron!
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan Год назад
@@headkickko609 also will say that higher metres per stroke doesn't necessarily mean faster. 300w is faster than 160 regardless of how many metres per stroke
