I would argue he wouldn’t have if Vando was still in he would’ve taken some of cams mins im glad this worked out now when vando is back we are gonna have some amazing defenders
Cam has been a pleasant surprise. His defense on the perimeter is topnotch and he's the best screen navigator that the Lakers have. Hopefully he'll continue shooting well so that he & Vando can be in the starting & closing lineups.
What a steal. I think Cam naturally thought he’d be an NBA player based of his offense alone. Anthony Edwards said he was one of the hardest players he had to guard, so you can see why he’s had an unfortunate career so far. Happy for him and what he’s achieved this season! Dude seems to have really bought in.
Pete mentioned it on the LFR pod a year or two ago about AD, that he makes watching playing defense fun. Cam does the same thing, I think the part I love watching most is how he navigates picks, he's insanely agile!
Vando & Rui not playing early helped the Lakers discover Cam's role. Its incredible to see him thrive in a complimentary role like this. Similar to KCP .. guys like this thrive. He's going to improve a ton as well. This is a 5 star recruit. He's still got potential to fill out
I’ve been rocking with Cam for a while, anytime I make trades to boost my roster in 2k Cam always found his way on my team cause I like to have long athletic defenders play my 3 role, so glad to see him end up on my lakers but to also have a role on the team even if he is a former Dukey.
Killa Cam has been the ideal kind of player for a LeBron team. Really your only job is to be disruptive on defense and make shots when you're open, which LeBron will see to it that you get open a lot because of his gravity. I love what Cam and Christian are bringing to the team. Can they be this good in the playoffs?
The one where he pickpocketed Paul George was incredible: PG had just crossed half court to the three-point line and Cam swiped at the ball twice, forcing PG to do a behind the back dribble after Zubac set a high screen. Cam slipped over the screen and stayed right in front of PG, who then did an underdrag to try and shake Cam off using momentum. PG managed to create some separation, but just before he could get a shot off, Cam immediately switched his stance instead of reaching forward to contest the shot. PG then had to try and get past Cam using his handles, but Cam stayed in front and continued to swipe at the ball, resulting in a steal by Cam.
Active hands, long arms and athletic 👍🏾 And, Vando's coming back. I can understand wanting a scorer. I'd rather have Brogdon than Lavine though because of PER and BPM. They're about equal scoring Per36 and Per100.
Love a good Redemption story. Love to see it for cam too! The Lakers are quick to move on from somebody like him but I hope that he creates an opportunity for himself
If you win the play-in tournament tom. & win the regular season.... Please dont change or trade your players.... They have all the skills to compete all the teams.
There are several factors that helped Cam improve. He said the attitude of the Lakers players is different because they really want to win and not just play the game. Another is I'm sure having LeBron teach him is big. Finally, it's the storied uniform he now wears. I'm glad he's up to the challenge of playing under the bright lights of LOS ANGELES.
Nobody is "defense first" they are on different sides of the court. You don't have to prioritize one over the other. It's good to see him excel in defense but it doesn't have to affect his offense whatsoever, infact it can put the ball in his hand a little more often due to steals and more offensive possessions in General. Cam said before the season when asked what Lakers fans can expect from him " that I'm able to do it on both ends of the floor". He gave this answer consistently. I believe cam can be a 20ppg player along with continuing to play this same level of defense. They already seem to want to play Cam 40 minutes per night. That means he will be on the offensive side of the ball as part of the offensive, wether taking shots or not, for a pure 20 minutes or so. Regardless of how well he plays defense, he needs to make the most of that 20 minutes trying to get the ball in the hole.
@@ballinforjesus3645 I disagree. Cam's points usually are derived from chances. Either bron or someone passes the ball to him on corner threes, steals or broken plays. He does not create his own points for it is not required for his role. So being pedantic on "there are no defense first players" is wrong. You can deliberately be a defense/hustle guy like Draymond, Gobert, Greene and still get them buckets.
@@kuyab9122 my point is that even if he gets the ball more in his hands and begins creating offense as his offensive role changes as they trust him more, it doesn't have to change his defensive excellence one bit. Because they are on different sides of the court. Just wanted you to consider that, because this means Cam can be the type of player that every team will battle over if he has the type of talent on both sides of the floor. You are talking like his role can't change. Dyaymond and goebert COULD NEVER run 2guard and do not possess his ball handling skills. Cam is able to create his own shot, and be a playmaker. For example, they could easily run a lineup that doesn't have Dlo or Austin in it if Dlo gets traded and Austin continues to come off the bench. If Cam shows that he can excel at the 2guard position, bron can play the one. Is it far fetched, maybe. But that's not the point. The point is, Cam doesn't have to be defense first. He can excel on both sides of the ball.
@@ballinforjesus3645 Being a defense-first type of a basketball player does not mean you are not able to score. Cam has shown this in the past games leading the league in steals this November and visually you can see his intensity on his defensive assignments while camping most of the time in corner threes on the offensive side. And do not get me wrong as this is not a shot against Cam. I'm the biggest Cam Reddish fan out there. Even bigger than you. Of course I want him also to get it going on the offensive side but he has already found his niche on this team defensively and offensively on chance points so once again creating his own shot like what he did in Portland and Atlanta won't cut it out and will just harm him as a player.
@@kuyab9122 question: if cam becomes a top 5 scorer in the league at some point and has even better defense than he has right now, would you still call him a defense first player?
Lakers are currently 11th in defensive rating and Vando hasn’t even played 1 minute in the regular season. Vando, Cam and Gabe get back the Lakers should have a top 5 defensive rating moving forward.
Him and vando can play together when AD isn’t on the floor. Fill that with lebron, and whatever 2 players are hottest from 3 that night. That’s a good small ball lineup against smaller teams. Not against teams like the nuggets though unless you also play Rui.
