African American is a distinction. If you’re American and another white American, or Asian American is american- what is the distinction. If you were born in China (with the same parents and appearance you have now), would you consider yourself Chinese?

If he’s black but born in America. A Black American. If he’s from India, and came to America after he was born. He’s an Indian until he gets his us citizenship, after then he would be an Indian American. Really, I don’t even like the term that were Black Americans, but I rather it be black then African because I’m not from there 💯

If it’s skin tone, wouldn’t that mean a deeply tanned white person can consider themselves black? Especially If they are “darker” than a like skin black American, like let’s say Chris brown?
