Is that girl Chinese? How lucky she is! Living in a developed and free country, studying in a great university. That is most Chinese students' dream!!!
What’s with Chinese people not being patriotic to their country? The country’s economy and power is way higher than the UK, and is increasing and soaring rates.
It's really great! All of the professors are really engaging and knowledgeable, and the college is a fun place to live. My advice would be to not take your first term too seriously, the work is not so hard and it is more important to have fun and make friends!
This video was the encouragement I needed to apply to Cambridge...but I am a bit worried that the workload will be a lot and there won't be time for a social life... is this true?
Hey, informative video! I just received an offer to study Engineering at St Catz, I was just wondering how many hours per week you spend (or are expected to spend) studying, including contact hours?
I'm in my second year now and the workload is quite intense! It varies from college to college, but in first year it was around 10-12 hours of lectures a week, with 2-4 hours of labs, 3 hours of supervisions, and around 10 hours of additional work (examples papers, reports etc.)
@@TheDodgyEngineer Thank you for the reply! That does sound intense but it does give you time in the evening for socialising and societies I hope! (Imagining COVID didn't exist of course!)
Yes there's plenty of time to socialise, do sports and be part of big societies (but not currently rip). I myself am a committee member of CUES, who host lots of events each term for engineers!
Thanks for this. I see you have a laptop and a tablet plus a spare monitor. Is the laptop a 2 in 1 with touch and pen input? What do you carry around.? If you were choosing the best kit for studying engineering first year in 2022, what kit would you recommend?
Thanks for the reply. My daughter is about to begin second year A levels and hopes to do engineering at uni. I'm trying to get her good kit asap so please forgive me pressing on this. If you could get a very good new 2 in 1 13 inch laptop now would you dispense with the iPad? She is using onenote. Is this a common choice for note taking?
@@lmwald Many people use 2 in 1s, however I would never switch as having multiple devices gives me better flexibility. OneNote is fine, but GoodNotes for iPads is better and more widely used here.
Nice vid!! I have a question. I had got an offer to study at Cambridge and there are still 7 months left before the entry? What are the suggestions would you give to yourself or the things you want to learn before the entry in hindsight?
Congratulations on the offer! I would recommend you learn/practice python, and maybe do some further research on areas of engineering that interest you, like thermodynamics or electrical components.
@@adamcook2910 If you look on the engineering course page, they are part of the same specialisation. It's just that aerothermal focuses more on heat transfer and fluid mechanics rather than aircraft design, say.
Determining the modes of vibration of a simple structure, and the corresponding frequencies. Also seeing how adding mass/springs to the floors impacts the motion and how it can be modelled.
It depends on the course and college, but for engineering it is typically A*A*A in A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) plus a strong interview performance. Check out this page if you want to learn more: www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/engineering
Did the lecturers or supervisors give you a lots of reading list to be completed for the engineering? Or mainly were the calculation based questions to be done? What to expect from the engineering assignments?
You are expected to answer question sheets based on the lecture content for each subject. You also have assignments for programming, and lab reports to write.
i saw your reply on another comment about aerospace engineering and was wondering if what you meant was that you do a engineering course for 2 years and then get into aero or astronautical engineering also does oxford offer aerospace engineering?
