Thank you for saying that~ I could not agree more!!! Whenever I get disgusted or overwhelmed by the other crap (socials, etc) I come back to YT for some fun and memories~ it gets me squared away and joyful in very short order!! 💜💜💜
@@davidleebls1874 Er, I'm Irish ancestry, no way am I fucking waving to the British Royal family. You realise their ancestor Queen Victoria caused the deaths of 1 million Irish people in the 1840's right? They had a famine and she decided to let them all starve to death, despite having plenty of money and food to send them. She's as evil as Adolf Hitler.
I used to take my kids to school and when they misbehaved, I'd blast the song in my car stereo as punishment in front of the school, it worked a few times but then ,when I'd wake ⏰ up to take them they were already gone..... lmao 😝
In the 80s we didn't listen to the radio when we were at home. We watched MTV. When I "saw" this song for the first time, it blew me way. It still does almost 40 years later...
I truly mis the 80s and I'm also 57 those we're the Year's Good music and super fun nothing like now day's. love these guy's and many more straight funk most definitely Legendary 🎶🎵🎼🎶❤️😘❤️
The black, techno sound was the shit back when I was a young teen. I was 13 in '86 and I remember this dominating the airwaves. Times were so much simpler and even though I grew up in the hood, my childhood was pretty damn good.
This was a magical time to be alive. There were no rules/expectations for music videos. Just artists working with a new medium. Some stuff worked, some didn't. The growing pains were obvious, but a true joy to witness.
@distortionpedal-How is that possible, it is in pop culture!!!! That would be like me saying I have never heard-Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi..... Still plays on radio today, on music channels/TV documentaries, shopping centres, family parties, I last heard it when a guy at traffic lights had it blaring out his car!!!!
I had already become a Metalhead by 1984 and I have always loved this song. Still do. One of the best songs of all-time. It's impossible to not love it.
I was at Cameo concert with my bestie and we had a table right in front, we could almost touch anyone of them. It was a small venue of about 300 folks...OLD SCHOOL FUN..80s
In a decade of 80s mega hits, 'Word Up' is simply the best - the song, the slapping bass, the funk, the attitude, dude wears a red codpiece as casual as wearing a watch! - magnificent
What can I say? It was the 80's. It was a different time. One moment it's okay to wear a jock strap cup on the outside in public... ......the next thing you know, Geordi Laforge/Kunta Kinte himself is showing up in your music video with a bunch of dancing cops. These things used to happen in normal life. You had to be alive to experience it.
The tune does remind me of one or two late 60s favourites, such as Stevie Wonder's I Was Made to Love Her,somehow, and the whistling synth motif evokes Spaghetti Westerns to me thanks to the late Ennio Moricone, but it's still awesome.
My favorite thing ever just happened at church this past Saturday. The pastor was SUPER deep with messages and a guy from the very back yelled “WORDDDD UPP!!!!!!!” Hahhahahahahahaaaa
Deadly levels of funk in this song for sure. Funk that slams you so hard in the gut if it don't make you jump up and dance? Check your pulse you might already be dead baby. If Cameo never had another hit? This grand slam out of the park into the next galaxy home run would be a perfect legacy to leave behind. Get the funk inna your face baby. "All you super DJs who think you're fly."
what's crazy is this track is so dope but it's not even a drop in the bucket when it comes to how much juice there is in their extended catalogue. One of the best funk groups. If anyone reading this doesn't know 'Back And Forth', go listen to that right now.
@Michael Allen, actually LeVar did this video about 5 years before he was on the Next Generation and shortly before he hosted Reading Rainbow which was my son's favorite program on PBS.
@@kats938 idk folks rocking SPs and MPCs are pretty talented, idk what was available when this song dropped, but that makes it even more impressive imo
VeryBeiez Kind regards, as a 3 year old I endeavour to continually push the boundaries of my education, with particular emphasis on my grammar and vocabulary. Now I appreciate that I am very young, but would you be kind enough to explain why Cameo is wearing a red cup around his penile area?
Lyrics Enjoy Oh Yo, pretty ladies around the world Got a weird thing to show you So tell all the boys and girls Tell your brother, your sister And your mama too 'Cause we're about to throw down And you'll know just what to do Wave your hands in the air like you don't care Glide by the people as they start to look and stare Do your dance, do your dance Do your dance quick, mama Come on, baby, tell me what's the word Oh, word up Everybody say when you hear the call You've got to get it underway Word up, it's the code word No matter where you say it You'll know that you'll be heard Now all you sucker DJs Who think you're fly There's got to be a reason And we know the reason why You try to put on those Airs and you act real cool But you got to realize that you're acting like fools Give us music, we can use it We need to dance We don't have the time for psychological romance No romance, no romance No romance for me, mama Come on, baby, tell me what's the word Oh, word up Everybody say when you hear the call You've got to get it underway, ow Oh Dial "L" for low Come on, all you people sing W-O-R-D up, W-O-R-D up W-O-R-D up, W-O-R-D up (woo) W-O-R-D up W-O-R-D up
