It amazes me how different each players hotkey setup can be

For those who struggle to creep block and uses mouse to edge pan. Just double-tap and hold F1 (Select hero key) so your camera follow your hero.

Dude as someone who plays more action/adventure MMO's and RPGs than mobas like dota, this is so great of an idea. WASD for camera movement feels like second nature, and because 1-0 is usually the buttons assigned to skill bars by default in lots of other games, 6 is perfectly within my reach for heroes with numerous skills-- happy that you're bringing this idea to light with your platform

I don't see many people talking about the select hero button. I have it on spacebar because, for one, it's a great panic button when you lose track of your hero while micro-ing, and you can double tap and hold to keep the camera centered on you while you are blocking creeps. This feature and mostly using the camera grip button gave me way more control than I had when I used to play with WASD.

9:16 I agree with everything he says, except this. Having this option checked will cause out of positioning problems, if you misclick the creep, then your hero will move towards that direction. I believe it is better to leave it unchecked, that way the mouse is strictly for movement, and quick attack on key for last hits/deny.

Im also using WASD for camera movement, glad i found a bunch of players here do as well. Transitioning from mainly playing FPS games made me do this and now its a muscle memory. My keybinds setup are 1234 FG for skills, Q for attack, E for stop, Tab to select hero, T to select other units, Space to select all units, ZXCV ALT2 Mouse4 for items, ALT-1 for TP scroll, and ALT-Q,W,E,R for control groups. Also love you speeed for using the WASD keys as well. *wink wink*

Thanks for the vid, ive been trying to unlearn it and this changed my mind :) It stresses my right wrist less as i dont need to move my mouse much

This is super cool. I thought i was alone in using WASD camera controls. I really think that it gives greater control and precision in fights than pan does, regardless of skill level, but having 4 less hotkeys can also be detrimental depending on the heroes you want to play. My controls are even wonkier if anyone wants to take a look: Camera movement-WASD Abilities-QERF12 Items-ZXCVBN (going to be trying alt-zxc for the lower three item slots soon. Oldish video, but basically had the same experience 7 years ago when I started Dota, came from Minecraft and WASD is what I knew. Edge panning was a pain. Glad I found this cause I've always wondered if I was putting myself at a disadvantage using WASD for camera

this is so much better than before, I was about to give up on the game and because of the camera.

i play csgo on a high level and i have over 4000 hours in that game and i got curious about dota2 and when i first opened the game and went into a bot match for the first time i felt so hopeless i felt like i had just came into pc gaming and i had totally no idea wtf i was looking at or how did my character even move but im 12 hours in and im learning thanks to these guides that i have been watching ❤❤❤

Thank you for this video. I've been using was since I started DotA due to using a trackball mouse and having it constantly get stuck. I will have to adopt some of these settings since the only key we have in common is space for attacking as I use qertf for abilities and I can see how these might be better for me.

For creep blocking i would recommend left clicking on hero or hero portrait twice. The cam follows your hero if u do tht. Lotta pros use it.

For meepo I think it's better to use tab to switch between units in one group and use number 1 to all meepos and 2 3 4 for each one.

As a kid I played a lot of age of empires II and I used keyboard to move around map now playing DotA I do the same

This is how I’ve always done it and I love it.

for creep blocking you can click and hold the button for selecting your hero and it will keep your hero in the center of the screen even while youre moving

I personally don't use edge panning nor WASD. This is what I use, and it works perfect for all heroes, from Invoker to Meepo. Camera: Mouse3 (drag scroll with middle mouse button), you can use edge panning as well Abilities: QWERDF (default) Items: alt Q, alt W, alt E, alt A, alt S, alt D, S (tp scroll) Unit selection: 1 (hero), 2 (all other units), 3 (all units), F1-F4 (control groups), Tab (next unit) Courier/shop: alt 1 (deliver), alt 2 (select courier), alt 3 (buy TP), alt 4 (courier shield), T (shop), G (grab from stash), Space (purchase quick buy) Misc: Z (fortify), X (scan), C (toggle auto attack, never by default), ` (cancel action), H (taunt, most important), V (scoreboard), 4 (directional move, consider changing this to Mouse4 if you have it) Normal cast everything, except Meepo and Pangolier. Auto select summoned units except Phantom Lancer. I rarely ever use my pinky; my ring finger lays on Q, middle on W, index on E. Index finger does a lot of work.

I use WASD for camera and i have F for attack Q for cancer and skil on 123R / 45 for extra. As well items ALT + 1,2,3,Q,W,E

I use AWSD for camera movement , QERCVF for spells, wheel up wheel down z x mouse 4 and mouse 5 for items, b for tp, tap to switch units 1 for select hero 2 for all other units 3 for all units

Went to 4k with keyboard arrows to help move camera. I've become so quick changing from arrows to QWER etc keybinds. Then I just thought I better learn a new method because this one looked inefficient and switched to the classic one. It's still difficult to say if you are better off with the naturally developed method or by trying to maximizing the maximized one. Maybe I'll give a try as well to your way in the future thanks for the upload

HOLD POSITION was useful at that time the ranged heroes were great at jungling - you cut trees to get above a camp and you stand right in the spot where creeps turn back and you farm creeps without moving and taking any dmg. Luna, troll could outfarm lane carry in jungle. The option that is missing is METEOR HAMMER requires hold/stop, I make this mistake so many times in a middle of a fight, it could have cost me games.

works really well for hero's like weaver. i have 4 extra buttons o n my mouse than normal so not loosing any hotkeys

I like how everyone is talking about their set-up. But I also like how I use the Legacy keys for skills, alt+qweasd for items, edge pan, F1 for focus camera to hero, a-attack, s-stop. Yup, simple af. My hands move naturally from one key to another because of muscle memory from Dota1.

camera grip changed my life, WASD and 1234 is hard reach for me. Here is my set up: Q W E R - main abilities D F - secondary abilities (D inventory if no secondary) C V SPACE 2 - inventory quick cast TAB X 3 - normal cast (double tab for self cast) A S - attack / HOLD (pressing hold = attack never A = attack always) T - Teleport 1 ~ 4 - select hero / select all / select summons mouse scroll UP/Down - select next /previous G Y - chat wheel

I'd run out of space for control groups, but it might work with some smart alt-binds. I've been using camera grip since way before Dota2 came out and I have no complaints. It's not great for all mice, you need a solid middle mouse or side button that's easy to reach.

i have the same wasd for camera , but i use QEFZX and space for ult with qef and space as main spells it feels more comfortable having spells close to wasd

I use this but little diferent, Q - E - R - C - V - F for spells, Z for attack, X for cancel, 1,2,3, first items capslock, mouse 5 and mouse 4 for items also, T for teleport , all on quick-cast, tab for rotate selected units.

i play standard camera at day 1 and this idea with WASD sounds a bit too much on a compromise cause of the limited posibilitis by the theme "groupe binding" ...but i still want to try it out even with the fear about a total mindcrash ingame for me! p.s. sry for ma bad english!

personally i think edge pan is easily the worst option out of the three and i've heard other people say the same thing, i come from a background of playing RTS games so i was used to edge pan when i started playing dota but i tried wasd after hearing someone recommend it and i found it way better. So it has nothing to do with people being inexperienced with it or something it's just better so even if you've played for years i recommend trying wasd or at least camera drag

I have a question , when using wasd for camera how do you switch your fingers from Triangle (camera move) setup to horizontal (ability) setup fast again and again and again for the entire duration of the game eficiently ?????

I use WSAD from the day I started playing. Cancle action on X and then abilities on Q,E,R,F,T and 1,2,3,4, space and TAB for itimes. On minimap I have iscons too. Much more easy to spot someone.

I use WASD to move camara, QER*F*TG for abilities, Z to stop, bloq May to attack, F1 F2 for hero/courier and XCV1234 and space for items.

Q for atack stoping, E denying, F ult, 1234 basic abilitys, bottom row above SPACE for items and MOUSEMACRO for teleport, WASD for movement, T and Y for chatwheel and other mouse MACRO for talking to team. this way i can keep my mouse free but also use my mouse to move my scree, i think that makes me a hybrid player and i think its above the rest

I used to use the arrow keys and use the page up and page down , insert and the neighbouring keys abilities... Might help you out if u dont wanna use the number keys

I'm using WASD as camera, 1234qe skill, space centering for my hero and the rest bottom for item. Really comfortable for me

Been doing this since always. Everyone should try using Q,W,R,T,G for skills. A for attack and E,S,D,F for camera.

Remap mouse 5 button to move camera. Use your thumb to hold the button down. Pretty useful. Best mouse for Dota 2 IMO is Logitech G502 because of those key features.

I use awsd to move a camera and i use q 2 and 3 for spels r for ulti and t and g for 4th and 5th spels and it works like charm (bdw i play morphiln most time)

Can you please tell me, in Warcraft 3 reforged how to assign camera control from arrows to buttons? In which file are these settings? Through the config you can, how? p.s know about third-party software launchers, etc. - looking for a native solution. Where the same should be written these buttons - arrows. The wrist hurts, the fewer movements of the mouse the better.

I played call of duty for years and switched to dota, I’ve wondered about this at times. I naturally got my commands to almost exactly your setup except swapping control groups to 1-3 and spells to F,R,caps,tab... I don’t play micro intensive heroes so never bothered with more than that. The big problem mine vs yours is I can’t really play invoker with 2 fingers (pinky/pointer) for spells.. you probably use edge panning when moving and invoker combos. In general I’m just surprised how many people don’t do this and have horrible camera placement (I mean I’m 3300mmr so me too probably but example just don’t move the camera at all for mid lane while half their camera looks at their own tower) v strange

Draging with mouse wheel is another good option i see lots of players use it and i use it my self for a long time

I use Q to Deny and E for Stop action 1235 spells normal heroes. 4 For ultimate. Invoker i use Tab for Invoke TP is Mouse Button 3

i bought a razer orbweaver because it has a small analog stick near the thumb to use camera with a miniture space bar under it meaning i get the controls of standard keyboard with the ability to pan with my thumb

I used to play with wasd camera but changed to edgepan when I got better in the game. I just felt I didn't have enough options for my hotkeys with wasd.

Hell yeah, WASD for the camera, QERT for skills, mouse thumb buttons for skills 4 and 5, items are placed in slots by priority of Space bar, Z, X, 4 and 5, with boots always in Caps Lock. It's a much better way to play without having to jerk your mouse all over the place in order to see properly.

How do you change cast range I mean the moment your ready to cast a skill thats far and when you target something that is outside the cast range the lines turns red

I used to be a WASD Neanderthal till I switched to edge pan. Surprised to see someone with such high MMR using it however.

I have Wasd settings and im a voker player and i have 1.3k games on him with 59% winrate and still im known for my voker plays in my local area if u have practice its more easy

This felt like lostening to Slacks tak about his keybinds :) but hey! If it worked for you it works. Main reason being that humans can get used to anything, set yourself up for comfort and you will go far.

i use ` + left click camera grip :D and alt+1 for chat wheel #1 and alt+2 for chat wheel 2 xD

How is using your own ingrained standard movement keys for camera control not standard? Edge scrolling has always been a major factor that keeps me from playing this kind of game. It's simply slower and an unnecessarily awkward way to pan the camera. Now to absorb some of the other ideas and see how well they adapt to a left-hand keyboard layout. PS : ESDF allows you to have your treasured TAB move to A which is even more convenient.

how do you set "mouse" buttons? ( as in your tp is mouse4 ) my mouse buttons auto calibrate to = my 12345 and it makes this impossible to do but i want to try it out!

I've found that just using the given setting are best for me since I can set my hero to 1 so I can hold it. I this have all numbers for the other control groups for heroes like naga for intensive microing which I find is quite effective on the hero- helpful insights though!

i use wasd for camera too. btw using doubletap for selfcast is a horrible mistake using alt+hotkey is infinitely superior.

I’m al about whatever works for people. I could never imagine using wasd for camera. That being said see panning also sucks sometime. Thank god camera grip is a thing. When you addressed blocking creeps I also think edge panning is ass for blocking creeps and I see tons of people doing it even pros. I don’t understand why people don’t just hold the select hero button to center on your hero when you are blocking.
