I'm going to disagree with you a little on Fuji. From my own experience and use case only 🙂 But I've used Fuji since 2018 for my main work as I think they give me the pictures I want and like. I came from a Nikon D800 and the IQ of the X-T2 I bought was, I thought, superior. The fact that they look great and the user experience is like an old film camera are bonuses for me. Were the XH2 the same price or cheaper than my X-T5 then I may have bought that instead. But when I owned my GFX100 that didn't have the user experience and I did miss it I have to say. The Fujis give me more bang per gramme!!! I don't think Fujifilm can be blamed for the whole X100V thing. I think they'd obviously like to make more of them but probably can't. Anyway, Merry Christmas you guys :-)

That's correct. The 7,000 EUR Canon 1DX (the mark one) was actually leaked to cost approx. 740 EUR total, per camera, to manufacture - and if I remember correctly that was with manufacturing, labor, overhead and tooling costs included in the equation too! Nowadays we have even better 5 axis CNC machines and it's even easier and faster to manufacture cameras, so manufacturing costs are even lower than they used to be!

Hey fellas so glad to see you back. Great video as always. I totally appreciate the amount of work it must take for you to record and produce these videos. And if you can have one true friend in life you are a wealthy person. As a hobbyist photographer who dabbles in food photography I'm lucky if I can cook, plate the dish and manage to cobble together a decent photo for instagram. You always bring up such great points of discussion in your videos. Omar, I agree with you about provia and velvia. And I must say the 35 F2 is probably my favorite lens. On the xt1 and xt2 you can really get some 3D photos. Moe, I'm really glad that you had a chance to hold a Leica. I probably never will but I've always guessed that the law of diminishing returns might be a play there. And I know taste is subjective, but I too do not like Starbucks Coffee LOL. I guess that's why I roast my own. I had to laugh today. I was watching episode 1 of Harry and Megan on Netflix. And 2/3 of the way in there's a picture of Harry in Botswana taking a picture of an elephant. You can see the camera he's holding from the back. I said wait a minute that's a Fuji XT body! Hope you both have a safe healthy holiday. 😊👊🏽 @sub_bourbon_chef

As a former Sony, Nikon, Fuji and current Leica M user (stating that so I don't get labeled as a fanboy) I agree it's about the experience. I love shooting a digital rangefinder. Omar was right...I love the simplicity of a camera. Since you mentioned watches, I was hoping you guys would have used the analogy of Leica is to Rolex as (insert camera brand here) is to an Apple watch. Both can tell time, but the Apple watch can run circles around a Rolex in functionality. But if someone wants a Rolex, telling them to go buy an Apple watch because it can do more kinda misses the point (not that you guys said that). I just don't want to feed the trope that all Leica users use them as necklaces or just for recognition. I use my camera almost every day and take it everywhere with me. It's ok to own something you just enjoy using and not having it just be practical in every sense.

Well said! Along with simplicity and experience there is also portability. I shoot Leica M because the bodies and lenses are extremely light and compact. This enables me to bring it along everywhere I go and makes even the most mundane moments in life more memorable.

I have a third camera I take with me on all my projects that is a cheap second hand Leica D-LUX (Typ 109). I don't like the pictures I get out of it compare to the 2 others cameras that I actually use. But I still continue taking it with me only because when/if the client or someone on the team of the client asks me what I am shooting with, I can say "this and this and a Leica". And each time, at the sound of Leica, they go "Ohhh!" 😆😂 I swear that's the only reason I take it with me on my shooting. People that have no clue just take me more like a "real pro" 'cause I bring my "Leica". I really can feel the "respect" I get after I pronounce the "magic word".

I was an early adopter of the X100V, but only because I had already owned the X100T and X100F. So glad I beat it before the extortion started. It wasn’t about people pointing out my camera and ooo’ing and ah’ing me. I have an old Nikon film camera that could easily do that for me. It’s a fun, simple digital camera that delivers great images. I don’t buy Fujifilm cameras for looks. I’d prefer no one notice me taking their photo, and even with an X-T3 or X-T5, I hardly get noticed. But I can see your point. I think a lot of people jumping on the Fuji bandwagon like the retro look and the how it fits into their lifestyle image (or the image they would like to portray publicly). They make superb cameras. That’s good enough for me. The supply issues have zero percent (okay, maybe 1%) to do with manufacturers holding back supplies. Most of the components are manufactured in China, the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan, each place bottlenecked by COVID. Demand is still outpacing supply, but I imagine the price increases and frustrations are causing this to taper off. Five years from now, we’ll be talking about gluts in prosumer cameras. Looking forward to in-body AI processing in future bodies, though. I believe every prosumer camera manufactured today are pretty much the same. I am amused by all the comparisons and complaints in Facebook groups and RU-vid but c’mon, every single camera of compatible price and intent of use are almost exact clones of one another, with group-focused nuances that appeal to each tribe. Someone who owns a $6000 Canon system and $20,000 in lenses and just shoots the occasional unpublished portrait or wedding are kidding themselves if they think they’re getting more bang for their buck. If someone can afford it and it’s what they prefer, go for it. But truthfully, the big five in prosumer cameras are pretty equal and far, far superior to anything that comes off of a phone. Buy what you’ll actually use and can afford and that suits your style or business model. What differentiates it for me is 1. Price: APS-C Fujis deliver equal quality at a much lower TCO than FF equivalents 2. Size: Small enough; I guess micro 4/3 would be a touch smaller, but I already own an iPhone 3. Rep: These are great cameras and lenses (so are Sony, Canon, and Nikon); they fit my use case (not pro; totally in it for myself)

There are three reasons all the DP’s and motion camera operators I know own Leica’s: peerless glass, and a great manual focus experience, and very small size vs aperture. This is the realm where expensive lenses are $30k+ Also, Fuji did premium with the Dura finish X Pro cameras, very interested to know the sales numbers.

This is such a GREAT conversation. The reason Fuji stopped making the 100V is because it probably has the smallest profit margin of any of their cameras. Think about it - all metal, incredible lens, solid processor, nice screen, built-in ND, and most importantly - Made in Japan. What's interesting is that both of you - house on fire and and you can only grab one running out the door - both grab the Sony. Fuji for fun, Sony for everything else.

Leica M cameras are an experience that you can't get anywhere else. Been a devotee of the X Fuji line (xe3, xpro2) for a while but couldn't get the quality of glass you get with Leica. 50mm Summilux 1.4 anyone? Only real option is a 35mm 0.95 Mitakon (which I had) but didn't really work out. I now have an M11 and the 50mm Summilux. I am quicker with manual focus and don't need IBIS. GAS complete and I just want to pick it up and shoot non-stop. Worth every penny to me.

Interesting conversation about why one chooses a particular camera. When I was shopping, it was going to be the first camera I bought since 1984 when I bought my Ricoh XR-P. So, I think seeing the dials on the Fuji cameras seemed normal to me. I actually found Omar's channel when I wanted to learn more about Fuji cameras. I compared it to lots of other cameras. Some less expensive, lots more expensive. I finally decided on the XT-3 mostly because of price for what it could do. I did look at XT-2 and XT-1 bodies. But, then I found a barely used XT-3 with the 18-55 and other goodies for way less than some of the other bodies alone. I'm very happy with my choice because for the price it's a camera that does a lot and that will be fine for me as an amateur for a long time. Happy New Year to you two. It was fun catching that glimpse of Moe in your last video Omar. It reminded me to come back here and watch the podcast! Great marketing move!! LOL!

Moe, don't sell that xt2 :-) I bought an xt20 years ago, and later an xpro. I prefer the size of the xpro body compared to the xt20. That one is just too small to hold comfortably for me. If i want my kit to be compact, i slap the 27mm on the xpro and that one becomes very small as well. Very small compared to my d810 ;-)

Leica is a legacy brand. Handmade, made for stills shooters. The quality is incredible, they hold value like no there and the native glass is unbelievable. Yes they’re expensive. But once you’re in the system- you don’t ever need to buy anything else. Focusing is half the fun, at least for me. Try a Leica and then you’ll find out what they’re all about.

I need something explained. Please understand this is coming from an old guy with 40 years working in TV. One of you said the phrase, "Upgrade to mirrorless." I shoot D850, and a D810. A friend gave me an Olympus E-M1because I have a 1977 OM-1 that has given ups its light meter ghost and I have so old Zuiko glass and he doesn't want to mess with the digital ON. If you want to tell me video on a mirrorless camera looks better, I'd probably agree. When I shoot video I want a real video camera. The ergonomics for video on a still camera body is nothing but a pain. Using the screen on a still camera body as a viewfinder is completely unsatisfying. I remember reviews declaring D850s are the best DSLRs ever built. If that appraisal of the D850 is true, the it implies two two things. First it says no one has built the best mirrorless camera yet. So why would I give up a proclaimed "The Best" for someone else's technology in progress. Secondly, what does a mirrorless do that is so wonderful that should notice me to switch. I like the Olympus. Admittedly the technology is about ten years out of date.It is a complicated, fussy, quirky little beast with a battery life barely willing to go for a couple hours. With the crop factor my 200mm lens is now a 400mm. Ergonomically I prefer the Nikon regardless of the weight. Please understand. My questions are sincere. I'm not intending to rag on mirrorless gear just for the sake of being a stick-in-the-mud. I want to know if camera companies are trying to make a better bit of kit or if they are reinventing the wheel that isn't broken. Thanks.

@goldenearaudioreview4904 Год назад
I think it's a fair question that gets asked over and over. I think there are a lot of advances with Mirrorless but a D850 still has it's advantages over some Mirrorless camera depending on what you want/value/how you shoot. I think being able to see your exposure before you take the picture is great. I like the advances in auto focus. The newer lenses for RF mount are better than the older EF glass. Me, I shoot a Canon EOS R but I use EF glass because I can afford used L glass on EF. If I just wanted the best and money was no object I would go with RF. Sony A1 and Canon R5 I think would rival if not best the D850 in most categories but it doesn't mean all. And, those categories may not be worth it for you. If you're getting the shots you like then obviously you're happy. I'd be happy with a D850 but I'd have to adjust pretty radically.
@Just-a-Guy1
@Just-a-Guy1 Год назад
@@goldenearaudioreview4904 I agree with you argument about use case. Onedoesn't drive a Mack truck when a bicycle will do. Before I bought the D810 I looked at the Sonys. While the bodies were approachable the glass wasn't. I knew I could choose from an ocean of F lenses new and used at price I could handle. I'm 67 and retired and can't follow the latest/greatest whenever the manufacturers' moods change. A new camera would have to provide a spectacular function for me to consider switching. When a camera can cook and clean and work on my car, then I'll be there. In the meantime they are all light tight boxes with a controlled opening containing a computer or film. I shoot real estate, landscapes and some models. I think Canon does a better job on faces and skin tone but photographing people isn't so important to me. Thanks for the response!

Brian I loved my d850. Loved. But dealing with my multiple sclerosis the weight of the D850, my 24-70, 70-200 and 85mm on a wedding day for 8-10 hours really wore on me. When I bought the Sony A7III and was able to get similar output (in my opinion d850 was still better but not drastically) I decided to make the move to mirrorless. The added advantage of a much better autofocus system for my older eyes was icing on the 🍰 cake. Do I miss my d800 ,d850 sometimes? yes. But I am more than happy to have upgraded my system to a lighter, better focusing setup. But upgrade is a personal thing to some people. And I am just an old dude talking. Also that OM isn't going to compare to the d800 series of cameras. Take care. Moe.

@@MoeMorales Hi Moe, When I wrote this postI I did it without consideration of any handicap/disability. If you have MS and you can tolerate the stress o shooting a wedding, I salute you. I'm 67 and have developed a hereditary tremor in my hands, courtesy of my father. In my case I use the extra weight as a method of steadying my hands but, to a great extent I use aa tripod whenever I can with either a wired or wireless remote. My best results happen when I'm not touching the camera. I don't use the OM very often, but I use it as a walking around camera. It works okay but I do mis my old OM-1. It is lighter and smaller and less of a truck than the Nikons. Just the idea you are still working is most impressive. Please continue to be well. Brian

On the point of "if there was a broke photographer wanteing to step up their game, would you recommend a used A7III or used D750?" I would ask two questions, and then adapt my recommendation based on the answers : - do you plan to do video? If the answer is yes, well going mirroless is always going to be a good thing, for the simple reason that cameras became good video shooters pretty recently, and if you're going with a mirroless one, it means that it's recent enough that the specs are pretty okay for video. There is some DSLRs that do video well, but on the top of my head the only three that I can think of that are a decent value are the Nikon D780, Canon 90D and Canon 6DII, the rest is not worth the investment in my opinion. - do you just want the best value for money, or do you want the most practical camera? Then I would advide either a Canon or Nikon DSLR. I bought a D700 not too long ago, and since I paid about the same price for it than I did for my Fuji X-T1, I thought it would be a nice little experiment to make matching kits price wise, and the Nikon DSLR kit, even with full frame glass was considerably bigger / cheaper. For 970€ on the Fuji side, I could manage to get a 23mm f/2, XC 35mm f/2 and a Viltrox 5mm f/1.4, and that was it. On the nikon side, I was able to get a 80-200 f/2.8, 12-24 f/4, 300mm f/4, 85mm and 50mm f/1.8, and even toss in a vintage 35mm f/2. DSLR makes a TON of sense for a lot of people in my opinion if you're looking to get the most value out of your hard earned money. And beyond glass, for camera bodies it's also much cheaper to go DSLR compared to mirrorless. An A7III around here is still like 1250/1500€ used if you want one in good enough condition, while something like a D750 is around 400. And if you want to spend 1200/1500 for a camera, then you can afford to look at things like NIkon D850 wich is clearly a step above anything mirrorless in that price range

Size matters? I don’t care about camera‘s size but the lens is much more important. As Samuelstreetlife uses a pretty tiny Voigtländer 40mm on his d850. My fun combo this year is definitely my old canon d5 mk1 with a 40 f2.8. colours are amazing, battery is totally fine and ergos are really nice. You just be careful with cropping, it’s only 13MP. Wish You a Merry Christmas and if the Moe&O pops up a couple of times in 2023 I‘ll be very grateful.
