I get a lot of questions on the gear used to make my videos and how I chose the gear I did.
I'll chat a little bit about that in today's video along with the Sony vs Canon camera debate and what works better for me.

Did you get the C70 or are you waiting for the new Canon C400? It's been a while that I want to sell my FX3 and FX6 because I have never liked the image quality since day one (too digital and clinical for my taste). I had a C100 MK II before the FX3 and FX6 (as well as a Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro and Canon R6), and I really regretted switching to Sony...

@@JeanSebastienLEGER I agree with you on the picture of the Sony. I never liked it from day one. I have the C70 and love love love both the picture and the user experience. I find every button just seems logically laid out and allows me to use it fast and efficiently. The c70 cost a good bit of money, and although newere versions may be "better", I'm not sure it's needed in my use case.

@@MichaelsHiFiAdventures I rented the C70 for a project two weeks ago and loved using it. I can't wait to edit the video and grade the footage (although I have other videos I need to finish first). I will sell my Sony cameras, but I still can't decide between a C70 + R5C or just one C400. I work on narrative commercials, documentaries, music videos, and also photography (mostly film photography, because I sold my R6😅). However, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to wait for more reviews and footage of the C400. I'm afraid it might be out of stock by the time I make my decision (which happened to me with the FX6..). And, I imagine some people will switch from Sony to Canon (it happens every time a new camera hits the market), which might lower the resale value of the FX3 & FX6.

I appreciate what you said about needing to find out for yourself. For me, I started as a photographer, and that eventually taught me that I really preferred Canon to Sony for colorscience. Therefrom, I got into video, but I had an R6 at the time, and let me tell you - for my use case scenario, it needed fully rigged out (V Mount, Ninja V with SSD, etc.) to be half of what I needed, and at that point, it kind of was more of a hassle for my use-case scenario. Despite everyone on RU-vid almost uniformly saying that the FX3/FX30 were the best, I prefer Canon ergonomics, and not all of us have tiny hands, or want to rig something out. Internal NDs once you use them makes every non-internal ND camera somewhat offensive to call a cinema camera. DGO sensor smacks the FX3, FX30 (and frankly, to some degree the FX6) back and forth in the face. Smaller file sizes, and I can phantom-power a supercardioid shotgun XLR mic from the body. A 1080p image coming off the C70 looks, to my eyes, worlds better for character than what an FX3 does in 4K. Just my two cents - except I will say that the C70 leaves you so much room to grow and explore, if you can get over the lack of Canon lenses specifically designed for Super35 RF (my biggest gripe to this day).

also, the colors being subjectively "right" seriously speeds up the editing/grading workflow over Sony. Couldn't agree more.

What a fantastic comment. Thanks for sharing. I agree 1000% with everything you said. The FX3 was a great, clear, CLINICAL image to my eyes whereas the Canon is a more inviting image in my opinion. There is no right or wrong here. But I will say the number of youtubers getting free gear to make these videos for Sony is HUGE. One of them actually admitted that all he did was post that he was "thinking of looking at Sony over his Canon" and then Sony reached out to him and sent him an entire FX3 set up.
