Great vlog of The Way, brings back many wonderful memories. There are many videos of the Camino Francés, but I like this one especially for its focus on the many different people you encounter along the way. You have shown what it looks like to walk through the countryside and mountains, the communal meals and albergue experiences, the meet ups in cafés and pop-up stops (small paradise moments in the middle of nowhere), some historic monuments in towns and villages, the many smiles that often accompany the pilgrim's journey (despite the various hardships of long distance day-after-day walking), the feeling of community and sharing, the sunrises and sunsets, the types of terrain and paths that are walked. Excellent editing and choice of music, congratulations David, not only on achieving your aim of walking the Camino, but on having an open heart and mind to engage with your fellow pilgrims along the journey and share it here, thank you. Buen Camino
Thanks so much Mark. Yeah you got it-it was truly the people and the feeling of community and sharing that made the Camino for me. I miss the random encounters and the meetups in cafés, and I'm trying to incorporate more of that in my daily life whether it's at work or with friends & family. Again, thanks for your kind words, and I'm happy that you enjoyed it. Buen camino and happy 2020!
While I was recovering from amputation, I was thinking about walking on the camino with my new prosthesis. One day, I will make it happen. Thanks for sharing this video. :)
Wow I am so glad to hear you are thinking about this. I just got a hit of inspiration. Towards the end, there was a film crew filming a group of 10 people with limited mobility complete the Camino. It was inspiring to see the community effort. Check out the documentary "I'll Push You" if you get the chance (great inspirational documentary about the Camino). I can't wait for you to get out there, let me know how I could help!
David Wen Thanks for your reply. I will definitely check out the documentary. I am just curious whether you are considering to post more footage from your previous trip.
Hey @@rollwithme7943! How are you doing? Sorry for the late reply as it's been quite hectic with all this going around, and I just thought of you. I just posted a new video about the Camino detailing all my costs & expenses with some pics & videos about food & albergues (accommodation). I come from a Finance background so I tracked everything via spreadsheets. May or may not help you but just thought to share with you. Let me know if you have any questions now or in the future! Video is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MzdKVJ4I49k.html Take care, David
I walked the camino 2008. I got tears of joy in my eyes again, when I saw your movie. Now I am sure, I will walk it again next year! Thanks a lot, David!
My Granddaughter is into her 6th day of the Camino heading for Los Arco's .!!! Following her adventure every day as she keeps us updated on her pilgrimage..God keep her safe.!!!
David. I did the camino 10 years ago now. It was a life changing experience. You never walk alone. Thanks for sharing with us. People you meet along the way are amazing. Lost a couple toe nails. I took rest days in Leon, Burgos, and Santiago. Completed the journey in just 28 days. The camino gives you a new perspective on life for sure. Buen camino.
Hi Benny, thanks so much for your comment! Wow 10 years ago. I also made rest days in Leon and Santiago and agree that the people you meet along the way are amazing. It's only been a few months for me post-camino but so happy to hear that it still resonates with you...10 years later! Buen camino =)
i made my camino in the same days, just started august 28 and arrived in santiago september 27...i saw a lot of videos about the camino, expecially the french way, and this is one of the best i've ever seen. buen camino peregrino!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words. Wow almost around the same time, congratulations and buen camino! Also, I hope you are doing well and take care.
@@FABM27 Hi -- yes people do start in April. I've heard that the weather can be cool and rainy. Days with rain. Days with clouds. Days with sun and clear skies. So I suggest you bring clothing for rain, for sun, and for clouds...and you will be fine and enjoy =)
I was walking the Way on 9/11/2001 Todays pandemic is mimicking some of the feelings I had then. This video brought all the tears back, yet it brought back the joy of the walk and the pilgrims also. I learned deep in my soul what a pilgrimage meant that day.
Hi Jane - thank you so much for stopping by. Wow, I cannot imagine walking on 9/11/2001, but it's amazing to hear that almost 20 years later...this pilgrimage still resonates with you. It's only been 6 months for me...and it brings back a lot of good memories and lessons to reflect on especially during such times. Can I ask you what the Camino has meant to you these past 20 years? Hope you take care, Jane!
@@hidavidwen Wow, this is quite the question, and I'm not sure I even know how it has affected me for 20 years. I was raised a Catholic, but fell away from religion in pursuit of science, so at first this trip was just a hike. But arriving in Compostella and attending mass where my name was read off, was an otherworldly experience. And people were so kind, asking after my family and being consoling. I couldnt get home which is anyones first instinct. So I continued to hike. And then things in general got back to "normal". I stayed in Europe for another few weeks, and then resumed life at home. I think I realized that ordinariness is such a blessing, time to walk and reflect is a gift, meeting people of many countries who give me perspective on my American life is an amazing joy. And I realized that we humans are in this experience of life together. Fast forward to today, and the pandemic, and again one must realize that some things do not respect your station in life, wealth, status, job or accomplishments. The virus can take anyone, we are all vulnerable, all pilgrims, all equals and therefore need each other. I needed comfort whilst in Spain, and I need it now. And also I have given comfort, to refugees, to neighbors, to strangers, to the "least of us". That is what I think I relearned 20 years ago, and continually relearn. We need each other. Oddly, I learned this as part of my church as I grew up, but continued the philosophy as a spirituality as I aged. Yikes, this was hard to try to consolidate my thoughts in an answer to your question. I feel as if I have only touched on the surface effect that this walk had on my life. Thank you, you have really made me search deeply into my soul for answers to your question. Cheers to you, and may you have many more long distance walks. They are magic. I guess I should say that I have walked many long distance paths in the US, Europe, Asia, SE Asia, and somehow the simple act of putting one foot in front of another is a religious experience.
@@jojanew Wow thank you so much for sharing, I've read this 2x already. I'm so grateful to hear your reflections of the Camino and life in the past 20 years. "And I realized that we humans are in this experience of life together." That is something that I've realized as well...and I've learned so much from people from all walks of life so far that have enriched my life or changed my perspective. Thank you, Jane.
Thank you Ken, I really appreciate it =) Yeah you are so right...we need to treasure every moment in life...you never know when it will be taken away from you. Glad to know this helped you a bit and hope you take care.
I walked the Camino exactly one year before you! Amazing to see all the paces I've been to. The memories are flooding in :) I'm dreaming of walking again soon even though it doesn't look like it will be possible this year (maybe next?). This video helps cure my longing for a moment, thank you for posting.
Aw thanks for your comment Emma. Whenever you walk it again, I’m sure you will have an amazing time. I also look forward to walking it again one day too. buen camino and take care!
What a wonderful video. I really enjoyed it, wonderful scenery, lovely villages, towns and cities and great company. I have been walking various caminos every year since 2011, until this year. I have walked sections of Camino Frances 5 times, including walking from StJPdeP to SdeC once. I had booked to walk from Burgos to Sahagun in April, but unfortunately I had to cancel. I am so saddened about how tough it has been for so many people in recent times. I hope that things will continue to improve and that the camino routes can open up again, for the benefit of everyone, locals and pilgrims. How I love the camino, particularly meeting people from around the world.
Wow thanks so much for your comment. Now that I've done my 1st time, I understand why people go back again and again. Meeting people from around the world. I also hope for the best...for the Camino, the locals, and everyone around the world in general. I hope you take care and buen camino!
Beautifully done and edited. Great souvenir when I hiked it back in 2009. I have to say that there were fewer pilgrims back then. I've also done 600 km on the Puy Way in France and last year did the Portuguese Way from Porto to Santiago with my son. Congrats David on this trek, I'm sure that there will be more to come!
Thanks Alvin. Oh wow back in 2009...I can imagine there being fewer people (before Instagram). I plan to do the Portuguese Way as well one day...never heard of the Puy Way- do you recommend that one?
@@hidavidwen The Puy Way starts in Puy-en-Velay ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Puy-en-Velay )and finishes in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, 720 km. Ask anyone from France and they will say that they prefer this one to the Camino de Santiago (Camino Francés), mainly because of the scenery and language barrier. Personally, I loved the Meseta in Spain, while the French grew very tired of it. It passes through some impressive medieval village and towns and the Aubrac plateau. When we slept in Conques, I told my wife, I feel like I'm in Hogwarts. There's a lot less of pilgrim, it is also less international and the same can be said for road side cafés and signage. It is also called the GR 65 (grandes randonnées - aka great trails of Europe). Better to reserve the gîtes (albergue) ahead of time.
Great video! These things always make me happy and sad at the same time. I sure do miss the camino and the friends I made there a few years back! Thank you.
Hey Eddy thanks for the comment! Wow 86! Yeah I bet there were less people (I was also a bit annoyed at how busy it got from Sarria onwards). I'm curious-how was your Camino experience when you look back on it...35 years later??
Thanks so much for the kind words. They really were wonderful moments and glad we got to experience it...it will stay as beautiful memories for years to come. Buen Camino and Happy 2020!
Oh I sure do miss those cafe con leches and tortilla de patatas! Brings back fond memories indeed. I still drink quite a bit coffee...but it's just not the same. Thanks Tim, happy new year, and buen camino!
Thanks Tommy! I'm so happy to hear that you were able to relive it after June. I'm hoping to do the same and look back fondly in the future. But hopefully we'll have these memories playing in our heads for some time to come. Happy 2020 😀
Congratulations. You had captured the essence of the Camino in these images: Friendship, fraternity and spirituality. I did the same way in September 2015 in 34 days. Ultreia.
Thanks Marcelo! Wow so 4 years ago and you got that right...friendship, fraternity, and spirituality. It's amazing how much can happen in 30ish days...even more memories and connections than years could bring. Buen camino and Ultreia =)
It was such a beautiful experience. There were so many people who offered to help push them along the way-even a few from our group. It was beautiful to see them finish in Santiago =)
Thank you for sharing this. I attempted to walk this in 2017. The exact same route. I couldn't complete it because my knee gave out 1/4 the way. I love seeing your video: brings me back. Thankfully I completed Portugal to Santiago🍻
You’re welcome and glad to hear it brought you memories! Yeah the camino for me wasn’t all about finishing it but the experience of it along the way…and happy to hear you completed Portugal to Santiago (that’s on my list)!
Nice vlog and well done. I also worked the Camio Frances in September 2019 so I am very impressed by your vlog. I could not walk through whole course of the Camino Frances because I did not enough time to walk through, so I would like to walk through whole way in the future as you have done.
Thank you so much for your kind words and wow...it feels special to know that you were also there around the same time. I hope you get the chance to walk the whole way or another way in the future-you will. Buen camino!
Congratulations. Watching your video I feeled walking again. Thank you ! Gracias !
Thanks so much Luz! I am so happy to hear that it brought back good memories. Feliz 2020 =)
Doing camino is one of my life goal but I am not doing it yet. Thank you so much for the visual experience you gave in this video. A million likes from me 😁
Thanks so much Hanifa, I really appreciate your kind words. It means a lot to me. Wow it is a life goal-what inspires you to walk the camino? You will do it and I am sure you will enjoy it 😁
@@hanifafissalma8362 😀 I did a lot of self reflection...you definitely get a lot of time for yourself. But the self-healing also came from the people too...it can also be 30 days of group therapy haha. Yes you can walk it alone (many people...both men and women...young and old). I walked it alone but met so many wonderful people along the way. You will never be alone (unless you want to) on the camino. And all the people that walk it...are very friendly and open-minded.
@@hidavidwen Thank you for the response :) . I'm glad you hiked in the early Fall , that's the same time of year that I am interested in. The video gave me a great look at the scenery & camaraderie.
Great video, David. Wendy and I sat and watched it on a large screen to take in the full cinematic effect. Strange how most shots of me include food or wine!! Keep walking, Des.
This is the best El Camino de Santiago video so far. Previous videos I watched only shows flat lands but this one shows mountains and gorgeous towns along the way.
Thank you for this video. I did the Camino Francès July 2019. This brought back so many good memories. I can practically hear Amapaula describing what she made for dinner at the cafe in Agès. Buen Camino
Thank you for the kind words Eleanor. Looks like you started just before I did, and it's good to hear it helped bring back some good memories. Yes that cafe in Agés...what a hidden treasure, right? There was literally no one outside, and we decided to pop in just to check it out...and it was one of our best meals on the Camino!
I walked in May 2018 the last about 120 km of the Camino Portugues from Tuy to Santiago. I hadn' t got much time and I don't walk so fast. I liked the pretty rural landscape of Galicia, the "Rias", villages and some historical towns as Pontevedra. But the most beautiful Caminos with most impressing nature are the Camino Norte along the spanish Biskaya coast from Basque Country through Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia, and the Camino Primitivo through the Mountains of Asturias, though they are not as easy to walk. I always heard the Camino Frances were too crowded, one has to walk on Asphalt often and the landscape was boring after you have crossed the Pyranees. Not as attractive as the other Caminoes. But as I see here that is not as true as I believed There are Pretty towns and villages and wide open landscapes, what I always enjoy.
Hi Luisa and thank you so much! I would love to do the Camino Portuguese one day (I hear it's beautiful and less people). In fact, a few people from my Camino family are doing Camino Norte in a few weeks (I want to join but don't think I can take the time off). There were a lot more people than I expected on Camino Frances (especially towards the end)...but I think that was the most beautiful part of the Camino for me-the people. But yes...the next Camino...I would like to do one with less people and more landscapes/nature =)
