What a coincidence I started from Lisbon on the 7th of 2018. I loved it but it is definitely the wettest Camino that I have done even wetter than Camino del Norte. It certainly brings back good memories thank for sharing.

Can't believe my last comment was two years ago! Well...fresh from the VdlP, the planning begins for our next Camino to Portugal, and I still hold your video of this pilgrimage as a key 'go to' reference. Like you guys...my wife and I prefer private digs...so this viewing I was taking notes on your accommodations. Thanks again for this amazing piece of video. Appreciated.

So nice to see a VLOG that includes the actual walking dates.....so many don’t. Great not to have to guess the time of year by the leaves (or not) or pilgrim clothing. Great video....really enjoyed 👍

Very enjoyable and entertaining recap of your Camino. Great music too and video well put together. My wife and two friends did, like you, walked the full Portuguese Camino three years ago. I joined them in a Tui for last section. Wonderful experience and nice to see here in your video the parts my wife walked and also the section I walked again. My wife and I are now planning to do the full French Camino next year (pandemic permitting!). Thanks again for sharing and Buen Camino!

Thanks for your film. I've walked from St Jean to Muxia and Fisterra the last two years and have booked a flight to Porto for September 2019. It was cheap, so now thinking of going earlier and walking from Lisbon and meeting friends in Porto for the remainder.

Hi just watched your Camino Portuguese and like you we loved it. We have become addicted in 2015 walked the Frances, 2016 Portuguese from Lisboa, 2017 Norte and 2019 Via de La Plata. After watching your excellent video we think we will go back and walk the Portuguese. Just wondered where in Australia you are from?

Sandra Riordan Thanks for your message, yes these Caminos are rather addictive. I'm so keen to walk del Norte next... once the world returns to some kind of normality. We both live in Sydney :)

JP_SABO love the Norte. Our plan this year was to walk Norte to Ribadeo, then walk Ruta Del Mar followed by Camino dos Faros to Finisterre and finally into Santiago. Will now do this walk when possible. Also loved South America but I walked the Inca trail many years ago (1987)and I suspect it’s very different now. We are from Hobart so get to walk some great tracks in Tasmania.

@@jp_sabo8460 Hi Julian, yes, keeping well, thanks. Since we did Camino Portuguese I’ve been on a few adventures.... Hohe Tauern, Austria (June 2018), Traverse of the Picos de Europa (Sep 2018), Camino de Invierno (May 2019) and the classic Tour du Mont Blanc (August 2019). I am booked for the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites for this August but I fear I may have to cancel. You can see my walking notes on www.tumbarumba.co.uk I keep in touch with Dianne on a regular basis, and I hear from Yarus occasionally. Like you I am keen to get away on trips as soon as the lockdown ends. I was booked to walk Via Francigena from Lucca to Rome this month, with a planned return on 20th April, but all that had to be cancelled. Regards to Antoinette (correct spelling I hope). Best Wishes Michael

Loved this, doing a lot of the same in a couple of weeks, 2 of our group have done the French way but they are aware that this way is quieter, and a lot more cobblestones streets which are hard on the feet.

Pilar Carchi, I would suggest you to start from Porto city and on. There you can take the Central Way to Santiago, or the Coastal. I took the Central Way, and started in Barcelos, and was the last pilgrim that reached the border of Portugal and Spain. It was March 20, 2020, a Friday, and the boarder was already closed due to the pandemic. The city in Portugal is Valença, which has a beautiful fortified old center. From there you can Minho River, and on other side it is Spain, and the City of Tuí.

Hi, i really enjoyed the video!Great photos and the music! I have walked already Camino from Porto, this time Im thinking abt to start from Lizbon. I have a question, maybe You can give me some advice. First, Im worried about the road, is it marked well? And then, about the hostels, from which town do I have bigger chance to find some cheaper acommodation? From Porto i remember there were many hostels on the way, how does it look like from Lisbon?
@jp_sabo8460
@jp_sabo8460 4 года назад
Oliwia Weronika The roads can be bad in some places between Lisbon and Porto, and the drivers see you more as a hinderance. A 5 kilometre stretch leading into 'Golega' was a little scary with no side area to walk by the road. As mentioned in my Vlog, accommodation is scarce in areas. You just really need to do research. We used Booking.com wherever we could which helped:)

Thank you for this informative and lovely video. I am actually planning to follow the same route in a couple weeks starting from Lisbon! A few questions, it doesn't look like you stayed at any of the albergues on the way. Did this create any issues getting your stamps? Did you simply taxi from your hotels to the albergues to get your credential stamped or could the hotels do it? Also, I was thinking of doing the detour to Fatima. Was it something you considered? Any reason not to do it? I know it adds another day or two of walking. Cheers :)
@jp_sabo8460
@jp_sabo8460 5 лет назад
Micah the Hika, Hi and thanks for your response. Yes all hostels & hotels have stamps. Even a lot of the cafes and restaurants have them. We didn't consider detouring to Fatima. We were on a pretty tight schedule. Hope you have a great time :)

We loved your video. My husband and I have hiked the Camino Frances in 2017 and will be hiking the Camino Portugués in June-July 2019. I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind. We are teachers so we have 8 weeks to be in Spain/Port. We want to hike from Lisbon but we want to know is it worth it? Meaning - would you do it again like it sounds like you want to hike the Camino Frances again? We want to use our extra time to hike some of our favorite parts of the Camino Frances again but are struggling with how to make that happen with spending half if not more of our time on the Camino Portugués, suggestions/opinions welcome. Last questions... do you have links/reviews of where you stayed or any from the video that you would not recommend? Did you use booking.com? Was translation/communicating tough or tougher in the early stages? Thank you so much for a well put together video! We truly appreciate the insight.
@jp_sabo8460

Michelle Coleman In answer to your your question 'would I do it again', the answer would have to be no. In saying that though, we get quite competitive so nothing was going to stop us walking the whole thing and we’re glad we did. You may be the same… As mentioned the first few days are long, flat and quite boring, and dangerous in parts with the traffic. So if you’re willing like us to train or taxi forward to a destination, then retrace to where you left off the previous day, you should be ok. Another thing you could do to avoid a couple of the long boring sections is to start in Santarem or Tomar. From Porto to Santiago de Compostela was really nice though. Certainly recommend! Most of our hotel bookings were through booking.com. It was very easy to book the day before. We don’t know a word of Portuguese, but again nothing was a problem. These are the places we stayed and prices at the time. Anything with two asterisks I would stay again. Good value for money. Hope that all helps. Buen Camino! Hi.! We are a couple similar in age to you and would like to take the El Camino challenge. But are hoping to ask your advice for practical things...What you absolutely should take, what you definitely don't need and most importantly, do you need a shovel for....emergencies?? I hope to hear from you when you have time, thanks

Sandra Martensen The only thing we bought along which we didn’t use were our lightweight sleeping bags. This was because we opted to stay in Hostels & Hotels. My only other luxury item was my iPad which I used a lot. Other than that, in my 36 litre pack I had a change of lightweight clothes & shoes. Fleece jacket, Poncho, Medical stuff [compeed, bandages, medication etc] toiletries, litre of water, snacks, phone chargers & cables, head torches and stuff. In total it would have been no more than 9 kilos. Small shovel not required. There are lots of places to stop, although there are a few long stretches for the first few days out of Lisbon. [if that’s where you’re starting] - Buen Camino
