What documents /forms & information do I need for Airport / Security ? Thank you
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick Год назад
Okay, so you of course need your passport and your DS-2019. Also bring your medical insurance info that camp america will send to you (if they haven't then email them for it). I brought a small folder with all of this information and I also brought the documents that I took to my VISA appointment just to be on the safe side. It's better to be safe than sorry and paper is so light lol so take whatever else feels important to you. But most essentially, passport, DS-2019 and medical insurance information.

Thank you so much. It's so nice to be able to reach out for answers from someone that has already experienced it. I'm heading to Camp Equinuk & Blue Ridge June 11th for my 1st time , any experiences with this Camp ?

the biggest thing that new staff don’t understand is really needing to take alone time when you get it, becuase everyone hits the culture shock week where you want to leave!

Hi again Lily , which US Sim Card did you use and did it give good Service Coverage ? Thank you
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick Год назад
I used my usual phone provider and sim but it was very expensive that way, however I have heard from friends that mint mobile is really good - it's a virtual sim so you can download it as an app x

so I have been offered a place at a camp however I'm not sure about the camp would you reccomend getting in touch with other camps to view your camp america profile?
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick 10 месяцев назад
I would definitely contact other camps you're interested in if you aren't 100% sure. There are so many options and opportunities that it is worth looking around especially this early in the application season!

I'm wanting to go next year but I'll be 26 I kinda feel abit be strange going
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick 10 месяцев назад
I know a few people who have gone who are in their mid twenties, I would still check it out because there are camps where you don't live with the kids but you run the activities, like day camps and such. They might be less uncomfortable if you're worried about an age gap. :))
@abbysmith4176
@abbysmith4176 Год назад
did you feel left out being under 21, in anyway on nights off? especially with traveling after camp, i’m worried bc my camps tiny and i’ll only be traveling with about 4/5 people so there aren’t many traveling after camp and they’re a bit older than me.
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick Год назад
I didn't feel left out at all, although I was travelling with a couple girls younger, one 20 like I was and one girl who was older than me so not sure how I would've felt otherwise. I'm sure it''ll be fine though honestly, there are a fair amount of places that will let you in but you just won't get served but also if you're in a hotel/apartment when you travel then you can do pres and whoever is able to can buy and it's all calm. I know the girls I travelled with who were 18 and 19 were getting in to places and going out just the same as the others - I'm not much of a drinker myself so I wasn't fussed but it is defo do-able so don't worry xx

@@lilyjmerrick thank you so much!! definitely eased my mind, i’ve been so worried lately that i won’t be able to enjoy my travels, glad to know it wasn’t too much of an issue 🫶 fingers crossed i’m traveling with others in the same boat and i won’t feel too left out

I didn't feel left out as such, but I'm ngl I was jealous of people who were able to drink on their days/nights off😅

Is it harder to get the job by applying directly, without an agency (do you know many counselors who got it without an agency)?
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick Месяц назад
I don't know anyone personally that has applied that way without having already worked at that camp. I definitely feel as though one of the best ways to do it would be to make an application through an agency but to contact the camps directly that you want to work for and explain that your application is available on Camp America or whatever agency you used. Also, doing it through an agency is great help especially for the first time when it comes to VISAs and insurance. I hope that helped! :)

How did u find people to get on the camp group chat?
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick 4 месяца назад
Facebook honestly, I went on the Camp America Group Chats for that year and asked if anyone was going to my camp and if there was a chat already set up. Or your camp may have its own group that you can join for the staff of that year x
@zoe6485
@zoe6485 6 месяцев назад
hi, just wondering, how were you able to find people also going to your camp? :)
@lilyjmerrick
@lilyjmerrick 6 месяцев назад
Facebook! There are so many chats on there for Camp America 2024 in general and then individual camps too. I just put a message in the Camp America group asking if people were going to my camp and then joined a group chat from that x

Hi Lily , I am 18 years old and wondering if I will be allowed into bars in US even without drinking alcohol ?

It is so dependent on where you are but mostly I'd say no for clubs in big cities unfortunately :( x
