Camp Fire No. 1: Camp Guns 

I think it's a step backwards when we live in an America that is surprised to see you bring firearms with you when you're not hunting. I always have one. Why wouldn't you?

I always use to carry a a stainless steel Ruger vaquero in 45 Colt with 4 5/8 barrel when we were camping and moving are cows we had a forest permit and had to move them to different pastures during the summer

Can’t think of many (any?) 2nd generation gun writers. Your channel is a rare treat; perhaps gun media needs to change with “the times” so hats off to the Pearce brothers. Plus it’s nice to experience a writer I’ve followed for so many years, in a new, more intimate form!

Great group of guys, love to see groups like this of younger men just as into firearms and hanging out as our elders were Lots of great firearms in this use many myself. Marlin 45-70 and a Ruger super Blackhawk in 44 mag or a smith model 29 4” using Keith loads are about my favorite for camp and hunting in these thick timber woods

Brian Pierce, been a huge fan for years. Pierce Brothers I’m sure you realize the blessing your family has received with such a father. You can’t fake the genuine wholesome American family values, your family exudes. Congratulations Pierce family job well done. Brian perhaps in the future you can retell a story written years ago in (Rifle or Handloader magazine) of your father delivering horses for the actor John Wayne in Arizona I believe. Brian, I talked with you on the phone a couple of times about seven years ago. You are a very nice gentleman. I comissioned Ben Forken to build me an old model Ruger Blackhawk in 44SPL. and Roy Fishpaw made the grips. Also bought many USFA guns back then, thanks to you my friend.

Great video. Keep up the good work! For camping today, I would use my 2.75 inch S&W M69 with a Marlin 1894 in 44 Magnum. Year ago I would have used a 4 inch S&W M29 and a Winchester M88 in 358 Winchester.

Thanks for yet another cool video! "What future Camp Fire videos would you like to see?" I'd like to see a video sharing stories where a gun "saved the day," so to speak. You were in the wilderness and you used a gun defensively or had it with you in a close call. Could be any story each of you share where you thought, "Thank God I had this thing with me that day." What gun was it? What was the situation? What lesson did you learn that day?

Here in Indiana we don’t worry about grizzlies so much. When I’m camping I normally have my EDC Ruger SR9 with Federal HST 124g.

Also, I'm guessing your dad is the same Brian Pearce who used to write for some gun magazines? Loved reading his articles/stories, because he seemed to favor the 'cowboy style' guns, same as me. I like them all, except maybe Ar's and AK's (bad memories from my career in the US Army including several combat tours in SE Asia)

I love the stories! Of course I love all the guns, especially the classics like the Hi Power, the Winchester Model 12, and the gorgeous USFA. However I always thought the best part of sitting around a camp fire when I was growing up was all the great stories. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming!

When I am working outside a single action usfa rodeo in 38 special was always handy. I keep it with 3 snake shot and 2 148 gr hollow base wadcutters. But unfortunately it has gotten pretty valuable so now I use a flattop ruger 44 special and I keep it with 3 shotshell and 3 246 gr round nose lee mould cast. I just recently changed the grip frame to an original colt style bisley aluminum frame from rw grip frames and a 2 dog's custom rear sight blade. I painted the front blade orange and the rear square outline in green. Between the contrasting colors I can still have a great sight picture and alignment even when the setting sun is in my eyes. I always thought one of the henry survival 22 rifles that store in the buttstock world be all kinds of handy for a backpack rifle. I, always like to hear the different discussions on people's different types of requirements for firearms it's always interesting.

welcome from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC. I'm older with disabilities and don't get to hunt and fish like I used to. but not helpless or complaining .I wish all hunters and fisherman could be blessed to do what I have done. we have black bear and wild and ferial hogs near here. if I could go fishing in those areas I would have my Taurus tracker 44mag with 280 gr hardcast around 1000fps or my Taurus pt845 45acp 12shot with my reloaded 255gr hard cast 950fps.i believe these loads brinnel hardness factor of 18 to22 should take care of most anything in north America with exception of the largest of bears.. but only as a secondary weapon as a slug shotgun or appropriate rifle being main weapon in big bear country. I so greatly enjoyed the video. Papa wishing you well 😊

Damn, I'd go camping with any one of you ha ha, awesome choices and all up my alley in some way! The Kar98k and 1911 combo was cool, along with all the sweet lever action rifles. When I saw the trench gun and no handgun well, that's practically how I end up camping a lot, love the versatily of 12 gauge and I camp in thick woods so 20" barrels are about max for me! I like that a 12 gauge can handle small game year round, do predator defense with lethal and non lethal shells, and are cheap to shoot for fun around camp too! In Canada I can't carry a side arm besides an expensive antique, but i a hypothetical situation, I think a Taurus Judge or S&W Governer would make a cool and adequate bushgun around here with .410 for small game, and .45 Colt for anything else that I may have to defend myself from. A jack of some trades master of none, but I think it would be fun and reasonably effective where no big bears roam.

Thank you. Brian what is the model 81 chambered for? My guess is that it's a 250- 3000 ? Or something in .257 cal. I have been reading your articles. Savage 99 in .358 Win with Lyman peep sight, or .444 Marlin also Lyman peep. Handgun would be Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt (mine has the .45ACP extra cylinder as well), camp gun Ruger single six .22lr/.22mag. Buck 110 Lightwweight folding Hunter.

I like the 255g buff bore for the 45acp. Thats a good load with a 20lbs recoil spring and a buffer.

I carry a .357 single action and a .357 Rossi Lever action so only have to worry about one type of ammo.

Great video guys. My choice for backcountry camping, short hikes and sightseeing would include my S&W Model 18 .22LR and my Marlin 1894 .357 Or my Marlin 39M .22 and my S&W 629 4" Or my P365XL and My hybrid RR/DoubleStar AR Lots of options, but These are generally the lightest most compact...

I’m in NE OH and would camp in east Ohio or western PA. We’ve got coyotes, feral hogs and huge black bear in western PA that are moving into Ohio. I’d probably take my 625-3 with heavy cast bullets and either my Marlin 1895 or .444. Cast bullets there too. Jealous it’s cool enough for you to have a camp fire!

For the last 4o+ years of camping or working outdoors on horseback ; I've packed a pair of 44 mags . 16" Winchester 94 AE Trapper model and a Ruger redhawk 5.5" barrel . Sometimes, I'll carry a 45 acp 1911 and a 30-30 winchester 94 AE trapper model if grizzlies are not a part of the equation . Those guns have cleanly killed anything I needed to or wanted to kill short of grizzlies, which I don't hunt and never had to protect myself from. I was charged by a 450lbs black bear in Arkansas and put him down with one head shot with my Ruger Redhawk and a 240 grs Remington semi-jacketed soft point . He folded dead in his tracks on the spot . My rifle was on my horse tied up in the bushes about 25 yards away cause I was patching fences and didn't pay attention on how far away I got from him while working . Those trapper models are the best saddle guns I ever found for my personal needs . I'm not saying that they are what everyone should carry . But those are the ones for me !

When camping in the mountains I’ll take either a 12g shotgun or Marlin 30-30. Usually two handguns, my GP100 .357 and one of my Glock 9mms. When camping in the desert I’ll take several guns but my main carry guns are a 9mm Glock and AR-15. Camping on the beach I just take a 9mm.

For hunting or fishing I carry one of the original Ruger Bisley .41 mag. with 7 1/2" barrel in a shoulder holster. Even around camp I don't like my lawn chair hanging up on the gun in a hip holster when I get up. Sometimes handgun hunting it's my T/C Contender in either .223 or .44 mag. 10" barrel in a shoulder rig. Shotgun is a Sears Ted Williams auto-loader in 12 gauge with all the bells and whistles. I'd run out of room listing rifles and handguns,but there's a few. All depends who's the loudest when I ask who wants to go
