Camp on Allyn review: Campground in East Gresford, Barrington Tops

Just over an hour from Newcastle, along the Allyn River, there are a number of places to camp. Be it in tent, caravan or 4WD. You’d follow this route if you were heading towards Barrington Tops or Ladies Well in the Chichester State Forest. Or perhaps if you were heading East from Maitland towards the coast. During a recent road trip in January 2022, I stayed at Camp on Allyn, one of the larger and easier to access paid campsites in the era. I have been to this campsite a number of times and I have to say it is great and really well planned out with their facilities camp site sizes (huge compared to standard caravan parks) and the fact they dont overbook in peak times so you still have oodles of space. I wanted to add some additional pros ie they have a dump point, offer gas refills, sell eggs and other snacks and sweets, the amenities are kept immaculate and the lawns are trimmed and almost bindy-free (better than most residential lawns). I agree there is no shade but they have planted trees to remedy that, but they will just take some time to grow. And regarding the speed warning, there are a number of speed limit signs on the way into the property, and it is a working farm with animals roaming in the entry paddocks so we should respect that. I am in no way affiliated with the business, just a keen camper who thinks this is quite an incredible countryside campsite offering.

No worries Julie, thank you for the added perspective, it's always good and I appreciate you adding to the conversation. I wasn't speeding for what it's worth, but that was a very minor thing. More that there were a few things similar to that, where the attitude rubbed me the wrong way. It's a fantastic spot, and they've clearly worked hard at it. Definitely think for some people it will be perfect. For us with a largish young family, we had a number of minor complaints that added up into something more significant overall. But I do wish them the best of luck and happy to hear that people like yourself have really enjoyed it.

Unsure how you had people right next to you, we went there and my mate paced out the site and it was around 40metres wide,even if someone's next to you it's gotta be a good 10 metres away unless you both set up near the boundaries, I doubt there would be many other camping spots with sites this size. Ild say they put people together like that so they can give the grass on sites a breathe in between being used.
